Few yrs of routine exam/cleaning was fine until my teenage son had his last cleaning done. His…read more6mos cleaning took only about 20mins & they said he needed a filling done for a cavity. Dr. Wallen did not explain this to me, which I thought it was very unprofessional. I stood there for at least 5mins until one of the receptionist acknowledged me. Neither of them were on the phone. The billing lady is normally condescending(although she's not always right)so I was glad she didn't call on me. 6 months after, I took my son to another dentist for routine cleaning/exam. The "cavity" that Dr.Wallen wanted to fix was just a stain & not a cavity! I saved $150 & unnecessary procedure done for my son's teeth!

After an expensive, horrible experience at another dentist (who seated a crown incorrectly, leading…read moreto extensive, constant pain), a trusted friend in the dental field recommended Dr. Wallen. I couldn't be more grateful to her or happier with my experience. Dr. Wallen truly listened to my concerns, didn't rush, and assured me he would do everything possible to rectify the situation. I had a great deal of apprehension about the process after what I'd experienced before. He was careful, gentle, and now I have a wonderful new crown! I particularly like the way he talks with me about each step -- he speaks deliberately and professionally, making sure that I understood the process/goals but without being patronizing or talking down to me. Instead, it just felt like he truly cared and wanted to make sure that I felt okay about everything. Additionally, his assistant Lena is also kind, professional, and thorough (as are all his staff, I'm sure -- I just haven't had anyone else work with me). The front desk staff are also always personable, efficient, and helpful. I'm so thankful to have found Dr. Wallen. My whole family is switching to his practice.

Full disclaimer, this review is based on one consultation visit to Federal Way Modern Dentistry. I…read morewent because they were able to get me in early but I ultimately chose to get a second opinion from another dentist. I can't speak about the effectiveness of the treatments but my decision to go somewhere else had a lot to do with the fact that I didn't like the atmosphere here. Call me old-fashioned but I kind of expect a doctor's office to be somewhat serene and comforting. The front desk lady (forgot her name) was really nice but there was a lot of loud conversations and laughing going on. Not only that, once your name is called and you walk through the maze-like corridors past open door offices you can hear club music blasting from somewhere and smell food too since someone is clearly eating lunch. I'm not against dancing and eating but it just felt unprofessional. Sure, I can let those things slide but there's more. The consulation room looked like a storage room with a dental chair in it (I'm serious). The floor was littered with gas tanks and medical equipment, with music blaring from a portable radio on the counter. The dental assistant was also kind of unfriendly. So yeah, the consultation with the doctor went ok I guess although his recommendations quite differed from the other dentistry I later visited. I guess the kids these days might be cool with all this 'modernness' but I personally can't trust anyone to do a medical procedure in a setting like this.
