I am not one to bestow glowing reviews unless absolutely warranted and have admittedly been reluctant to do so lest I incur a flood of new patients seeking out the excellent services provided at this office! ; ) However, I am very grateful that a family member recommended Dr. Nilges, or I would never have discovered this gem of a practice here in Redding! I too have experienced the whole range of dental experiences...... I'll spare you the details and just suffice it to say that if you come here, you will not be disappointed. Dr. Nilges is very kind and competent and will make you feel comfortable. He and his staff are very warm, professional and up to date on what options they can offer in your dental care. That being said, I have never been pressured into choosing a more costly treatment plan than what was necessary and I feel that the fees charged here are very reasonable. Also, more importantly it's very evident that Dr. Nilges and his staff are passionate about their profession. They are meticulous and even bounce ideas off of each other....no egos here, just committed to providing the best care possible. Receptionist Charlene and Brianne, ( financial coordinator? Not sure of the proper title ) are outstanding and extremely helpful and accommodating; assistants Sarah and Carly are very kind and knowledgeable and the hygienists I have encountered have been equally terrific. Also, .....an added bonus that I have found surprisingly lacking in some larger cities.........the office is CLEAN! I actually enjoy the tranquil and beautiful view overlooking Park Marina from the operatories. The office is on the third floor of the building, so it feels like being in a treehouse and at least for me, the setting is a pleasant distraction from some of the tensions that may be felt with being at the dentist. : ) Just an FYI for those who may be traveling some distance .........in a perfect world, the restroom would be located inside the actual office, but in fact, it is in the shared hallway with the other suites and you must take the key from the office to access it. : ( Do avail yourself of the opportunity before your appointment! First of all, I will start off by saying that I have never had a problem or been afraid to see the dentist, so that probably goes to say that I have been fortunate to have good dentists throughout my life. I will however say that I have had both good and bad experiences with dentists (primarily those in Southern California) that have wanted to complete unnecessary work and who double charged myself and my insurance. All that being said, I have been incredibly impressed with both Dr. Nilges and his staff with the attention to detail, professionalism, advice, and going the extra length to provide great service to his patients. Novocaine shots have always been painless and I have never felt under (or over) anesthetized. The great thing that the office offers (in case you hate the feeling of drooling all over yourself when you leave the dentist from your facial numbness) is the OraVerse shot to counteract the Novocaine and reduce the length of time you experience numbness (from my experience between 15-45 minutes vs. several hours). Over all, one of the best dentists my family and I have been to in my 35 years! read more

I am beyond satisfied with my experience at Dr. Nilges. The staff and himself are very welcoming, nice, and professional. The first time visiting the office was just for a cleaning for braces, as I was in the waiting room filling out my paper work Dr. Nilges came out to introduce himself to me and welcome me to their office. Ashley took her time cleaning my teeth extra well, and set aside any nerves that I had. The second visit was to get my wisdom teeth removed, I was frightened and very uneasy and nervous about that procedure. All the staff and Dr. Nilges reassured that everything would be okay, and did everything possible to make me feel as comfortable as possible. I made an appointment to fill an existing cavity, and by the time the day came to get that tooth worked on I had a question regarding one of my other teeth. Dr Nilges answered my questions and concerns thoroughly, even handing me a mirror so I could see exactly what he was talking about. We decided to go ahead and take care of the new issue on my tooth in addition to what I had previously made the appointment for. Once he was done (he works quickly and gently by the way!), he handed me the mirror again to see how it looked. The work looks great, and I was really impressed how pain free my mouth was once the numbness wore off. Just due to the nature and place of the work that was done I thought my gums were going to be very tender and sore, but there wasn't any pain at all, which I attribute to the work of a great dentist. As always, the staff are so friendly and helpful as well. I am very happy with our new family dentist and would (and do!) recommend Dr Nilges and his staff to anyone. read more

I hate dentists. The smell of their office and the superior attitudes that they display. I have a real problem with gagging and most treat that as some sort of purposeful interruption to their day. My family growing up placed little importance on dental hygiene and problems experienced in my time in Vietnam resulted in my teeth being a mess. Previous dentists acted as if it was a personal affront to their profession to have so many issues. That said, I can't recommend Dr Nilges highly enough. The office was always clean and smelled fresh. Dr. Nilges treated me with great respect and understanding. The staff was very friendly and helpful and behaved as if I was the only patient that mattered. They all took the time to ensure that I understood the procedures and costs. It was happenstance to find Dr. Nilges (discovered through a mailing at the time I was seeking a new dentist) but am so grateful I didn't toss that ad like most others. read more

Absolutely recommend! I didn't even know a trip to the Dentist could be a pleasant experience, from calling and making a new patient appointment, to deep cleaning, fillings, etc, this is the only office I'll ever go to. I had severe anxiety after not being seen since 2011, I knew I was going to need a lot of work done, and it's been a walk in the park, Dr. Nilges is so gentle and kind. I switched my young Daughter over to this office, she was having continual issues at her previous Dentist office and Dr. Nilges and his office took such great care of her! I was unable to make it to her appt due to work, and she ended up needing two teeth extracted the same day, when I got home my 9yr old told me how much she loved the office, showed me all the goodies she came home with, and specifically said "I didn't even feel him take them out! I have been a patient of Dr. Nilges for two years . Being new to Redding I researched and investigated very deeply and decided to try him. There is no turning back! Through the Covid restrictions the staff has been so professional and has taken much precaution and individuality in their office. The doctor is so thorough and foresees any issues that may arise up the road. I thoroughly trust his words and gentle demeanor. Charlene makes appointments and collect payments. My husand liked Dr. Nilges so much that I decided to give him a try. What a nice guy! They were able to get me in the same day and the office and staff were very welcoming. I had a chip in my tooth and after examining it, Dr. Nilges said it could be fixed pretty quickly. He said if I didn't mind a short wait he would go ahead and do it. I was happy not to have to make another appointment to come back. Dr. Nilges explained everything as he went and even showed pictures (on a monitor) of the inside of my mouth and the tooth he was working on so I could clearly see the problem. Recently I had the need to find a new dentist, A task I was not relishing. I have always felt apprehensive when making a dental appointment. I had two dentists in mind and I had an appointment with one of them and then I heard about Dr. Nilges and decided to go with him and I cancelled my appointment with the other dentist. I am glad of my decision because from first entering his office, the staff was very helpful at putting me at ease. They showed an awareness of my feeling of "nervousness". I didn't think I was that transparent but apparently I was. When I met Dr Nilges, the same feeling of calmness and professionalism pervaded. I needed a new dentist in Redding, after a poor experience with another. They happily answered numerous questions over the phone before I was even seen. It was a huge contrast from the other office. I was very pleased with the entire staff on my first visit. Everyone was cheerful, professional, knowledgeable, and willing to answer my questions. Dr. Nilges assessed my tooth thoroughly and explained what needed to be done. He took a conservative treatment route. He did an amazing job completing my fillings and even cleaned up some cement previous dentists left on other teeth! Dr. Nilges is an outstanding professional who goes above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable. I highly recommend Dr. Nilges and his staff. He has been providing me excellent care for the last several years. Recently, my two children (ages 3 and 6/special needs) had their appoints with a local pediatric dentist rescheduled. I wanted them to be seen soon and Dr. Nilges was able to meet our needs. My 6 year old had yet to be able to successfully complete a cleaning or x-rays until Dr. Nilges! My 3 year old had her first full cleaning and thought it was fun! My whole family has gone to Dr. Nilges since he opened his practice here in Redding. He is very caring and gentle. The staff is great. My most recent experience was with a new (to me) hygienist, April. She was very thorough in cleaning my teeth, but more importantly she helped tremendously with my gum issues. She gave me great ideas for doing better with my gum care (like setting my alarm to use the water flosser), and showing me specifically what to look for to see if I am doing a good job.
