RM Plumbing Solutions - General plumbing services on The Mornington Peninsula

I am providing this review of my experience with RM Plumbing Solutions also known as Beautiful…read moreBathrooms and Allen Moysey to his contractor for renovation or building work. , LICENSING, CERTIFICATION, AND INSURANCE CONCERNS * The contractor does not hold, and has not previously held, a Builder's License. * He is unable to issue Building Certificates, which are essential for compliant renovation works. * He does not carry the required insurance for building work due to lack of registration. * None of this critical information was disclosed before the project commenced; it became apparent only after issues began to surface. FINANCIAL AND CONTRACTUAL IRREGULARITIES * The contractor requiring significant payments in advance at multiple stages. This significantly affected the continuity of the project and placed me in a vulnerable position. * Payment terms were repeatedly altered, and I was asked for a large upfront, non-contractual payment owing to financial insecurities. * Despite repeated written and verbal requests, a certified and fully executed copy of the contract was never provided. PROJECT DELAYS AND WORK PRACTICES * The project was delayed multiple times, despite a deposit being paid in April 2025. Work did not begin until mid-September 2025, far beyond the initially communicated timeline of late 2024. * Working hours were inconsistent; on the first day, I was informed: quote: "...I start work at 10:30," which proved to be an ongoing pattern. * Although architectural and elevation drawings were provided, the contractor frequently disregarded the plans, installing fixtures and completing works based on his personal preferences rather than the documented specifications. ERRORS, REWORK, AND NON-COMPLIANCE * Bathroom entryways and wall niches were placed incorrectly, not according to drawings/plans and had to be rebuilt or repositioned. * Several justifications for non-compliance were given, such as "That's the way I've always done it," even when the outcome was unsuitable or unsafe. * The tile over shower tray was not installed according to the manufacturer's instructions or Australian Standards, invalidating warranties and potential future insurance claims and requiring removal and reinstatement. * Tiling was performed using "dot and dab" adhesive blobs, creating voids behind tiles. This method is known to lead to weak adhesion, uneven surfaces, and potential cracking. * The contractor refused to use epoxy grout, opting only for cement grout despite epoxy being preferred, specified and more durable. SITE CONDUCT AND CARE OF PROPERTY * Work practices were consistently disorganized and hazardous. Tools, fixtures with exposed nails, and debris were left scattered in hallways, doorways, and living areas, whilst we occupied the home. * Tile and construction debris was tracked through the home, including onto newly installed tiles. * Heavy equipment such as ladders, tile cutters, and adhesive buckets was dragged across new tiled flooring. * The contractor requested delivery of the vanity to avoid tiling behind it, despite the design specifying full-height tiling from floor to ceiling. PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT * Instructions were frequently misinterpreted or ignored, requiring daily monitoring to prevent further errors. * When directed to correct specific issues, the contractor became agitated and ultimately left the site after removing only a small portion of work. * No compliance certificates, including plumbing certificates, were ever issued. CONCLUSION Significant concerns regarding licensing, insurance, compliance, workmanship quality, site safety, communication, and professionalism arose throughout the project, many of which remain unresolved.
