First of all, Louie Louie was super busy, despite us arriving reasonably early (11am), though this might be some of the hype. I had a Bloody Mary and some tea to start. The Bloody Mary was flavorful, but had lots of ice which meant that it watered down quite quickly unfortunately. For starters we had the spiced chickpeas and aubergine as well as the fennel and avocado. The chickpeas and aubergine definitely stood out more, particularly the very flavorful labneh and olive oil that it came with - absolutely delightful! We had a small hitch where our dessert came out early and our fennel starter went missing, but this was eventually cleared up. Perhaps there's some rhythm to get into as they're just recently opened, but regardless the service was very friendly! For the main we shared the 'sharing eggs' with the tomato, chard, and feta base with some chorizo on top. It was a great portion size for two people and it was delicious! Reminded me a bit of shakshuka, which is a personal favorite. Finally we had some dessert where we tried both the apple scone and the ricotta pancakes. The pancakes were fantastic but the carmelised oranges that it came with were far too tart for my liking. The craime fraiche was great too! The scone was unfortunately pretty uninspiring. No great fluffiness nor great apple taste, and I can't say the apple and damson were a great coupling. Overall, I'd definitely come back, even if just for the eggs!

That said, once you set that aside, it is actually a pretty nice spot. We both went with the Sunday roast. I had the lamb and she had the chicken, and both were genuinely good. Solid portions, well cooked, and exactly what you would hope for from a classic London pub meal. The beer was also a win, no complaints there. Service was where things got a little uneven. It felt like our server might have been new and pretty nervous, which happens, but it did mean we often had to flag down other staff just to get basic things. Not terrible, just a bit disjointed. Cocktails were the biggest miss. I ordered an old fashioned and it felt half finished. It was basically whiskey, a couple sad ice cubes, and what might have been a splash of simple syrup. Maybe that is just a different interpretation in England, but it definitely was not what I expected. My girlfriend raved about the sticky toffee pudding however. Overall though, we did enjoy it. The atmosphere is fun, the food is good, and the little merch stand is a nice touch, especially if you are there for the same reason we were. Not perfect, but still worth a visit.

I so love it when businesses do everything so well that I'm able to write the glowing reviews…read more This business has the right stuff! We went to England to join the British in celebrating the Platinum Jubilee of their Elizabeth II because it's a once-in-a-lifetime event and, the Queen is a fellow Veteran. English cousins took us to this back-street pub, known for long doing their own loving homage to Britain's pubs during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen Elizabeth Pub caters to locals - plus the occasional itinerant tourist such as us and pub reviewer. We were first there on a Sunday afternoon. There was nice live music. We so much enjoyed this English pub and talking with the locals that we went back the next day for their Happy Hour specials every weekday from 11am- 6pm. If this pub was in my town, I'd be back every week. Alcohol is now less expensive than gasoline. So Drink, and Don't Drive ;-) Long live The Queen Elizabeth Pub! Here's what we learned from the friendly locals over several glorious hours and drinks with them. This pub has a wide selection of 1) worldwide Lagers, Beers and Craft Ales as well as frequently changed seasonal specials. Bottled Craft Ales and small brewery offerings. 2) White, Red and Rose Wines, Prosecco & Champagne, available by the glass and bottle. 3) gins, vodkas and mixers. The pub's namesake, Her Majesty, The Queen, Queen Elizabeth II, has style and grace, and is renowned for her sense of duty and tradition. She also has shown over the years that she has a no-nonsense, hardcore side too. Check the photograph here of Queen Elizabeth II firing a British L85 battle rifle machine gun in 1993, during a visit to an army base in Surrey. It was also seen during World War II, when the age 18 Her Royal Highness The Princess Elizabeth of York, future Queen Elizabeth II, volunteered for British military Active Duty with Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), the women's branch of the British Army. She honorably Served for 5 years, ending as Junior Commander (equivalent to Army Captain). Her job was truck mechanic and truck driver. The Princess Elizabeth was the first female in her family to Serve in her country's military. Newspapers at the time dubbed her 'Princess Auto Mechanic' and reported that the King had ordered that she 'is to be treated exactly the same as any other student officer, with no special privileges because of personal rank'. Therefor, she Served as Elizabeth Windsor. After being commissioned into the women's branch of the British Army, Princess Elizabeth passed a military driving test, learned how to read maps, and began working to repair engines, including but not limited to, tearing down and rebuilding engines. "The work was wonderful to the future Queen Elizabeth. According to Mashable, Collier's Magazine reported in 1947, "One of her major joys was to get dirt under her nails and grease stains in her hands, and display these signs of labor to her friends." The Queen's role in the war shows us what a strong and hard-working woman she is, and it certainly helped her prepare for the huge role of Queen. We'd much rather have a queen that got down into the muck with her people to help in the effort than a leader who sat comfortably in her castle telling others what to do. Sometimes it's easy to judge people based on what you see at the moment, but the story of Queen Elizabeth's determination to help her country reminds us that people aren't always what they seem. " Besides serving her country, Princess Elizabeth saw her time in the British Army as a lesson in what it was like to live as a non-royal. Life magazine quoted her as saying that she never knew how much preparation went into a royal visit. She vowed to remember in the future. Today, Queen Elizabeth II is Colonel-in-Chief of 16 British Army regiments and corps, and many Commonwealth units. The Queen is also the last surviving head of state to have Served during the Second World War. Elizabeth II is Queen of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms. The full title of Elizabeth II is "Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith." https://www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2022/05/09/princess-auto-mechanic-unseen-footage-young-queen-war/join

A cloudy, rainy & cold Sunday....what could be better than going for a pub lunch?…read moreThis place is the REAL deal, was so impressed with it particularly as there are a number of highly mediocre pubs in the area closer to the High Street that handle the tourist trade. It's a lovely old place, and the pub is even split between the old time saloon area and the 'workers' pub area. They've retained the traditional Victorian pub decor and not gone in for 'modernization'. There is something for everyone, with some lagers, a great ale selection, and an amazing Sunday lunch menu. In addition to the usual beef, pork , and chicken, this past weekend they offered pheasant (which my friend said was great, and the portion was quite big), a salmon salad, and a vegetable & Stilton pie (I've uploaded the photo -- the pie was huge). My only comment there was that I don't think there was much, if any Stilton cheese in the pie. I was quite happy with that personally, but someone else could have been disappointed. The Veg pie roast cost a mere £9.95 with pie, potatoes, and lots of additional veg. Beer prices were reasonable, pints ranging from £3.30 - £3.90 . This is a great find in the area, worth stepping a bit (and it's only a slight bit) off the beaten path to visit.
