Been to a few other locations to compare and this place has one of the best AC's haha! Staff was friendly and helpful in getting my library card right then and there! Will definitely be coming back on warm days to enjoy their AC to stay cool!

Sometimes they seem busy, but not annoyed. Tip: If you're picking up a book on hold, talk to the main desk to claim it. There is no designated self-service shelves for holds like at other branches (like Brewitt). The exterior architecture is very beautiful and worth admiring on your visit. There is apparently a small garden in the back but I've not had the pleasure of seeing it yet. No designated parking lot -- street parking only -- but a convenient book drop is located at the green curb right in front of the entrance for quick and easy returns.

Also they themselves do not use inside voices. This is a library not a daycare center, those of us without children would love if we weren't subjected to over 30 minutes of the same children scream crying. The parent needs to be told if their child is having a melt down, to take it outside and not to the courtyard that backs up to the study area either--completely outside. Also Elvin thing was never resolved, the fact that the library cat was carelessly kicked out is disturbing.

I noticed around me that most of the tables were filled with homeless people. I was by myself as a young women and even though they have every right to be there, it did not feel safe and it smelled bad. I had to leave so just a heads up for anyone going, please be mindful that this library seems like safe haven for the homeless to go. Still a beautiful library but I just didn't feel the safest.

What I like about this library: This is a massive, beautiful…read morefacility right in the heart of downtown Long Beach. One of the coolest features is the archive and history room, which houses a lot of fascinating historical books as well as the Medal of Honor awarded to the library's namesake, Billie Jean King! That's definitely something you don't see every day. The interior is well-designed with plenty of space between the books, computers, and study tables, making it easy to browse their extensive collection of media. Additionally, the recent installation of the steel cage barriers outside has resolved the issues with the homeless population loitering right at the entrance, making the exterior look much cleaner and more welcoming. What I don't like about this library: The parking situation is a bit frustrating. The lot directly adjacent to the library only offers 30 MINUTES of FREE PARKING. By the time you walk to and from your car, you really only have about 25 minutes to find your books and check out if you want to avoid paying. Your other option is to park in the lot behind the F&M building, which gives you two hours free, but that requires about a 10-minute walk each way.

One of the biggest advantages of El Dorado Neighborhood Library is its location. As for the library itself, it is on the smaller side and has a fairly minimal book collection. There are only a limited number of tables and seating areas, with very few electrical outlets available, making it less accommodating for digital nomads, remote workers, or students who need to charge their devices. A small number of public computers are available for use. To access the restroom, patrons must check out a key. While I understand the purpose behind this policy, it can feel somewhat inconvenient and invasive. The library also receives very little natural light. Combined with the dark carpeting and plain, colorless walls, the overall aesthetic feels gray, dated, and somewhat lifeless. The ambiance lacks the warmth and inviting atmosphere found in many other neighborhood libraries. During several of my visits, the librarians generally kept to themselves and appeared to perform their duties with a neutral, professional demeanor. Overall, this is not a particularly exciting library to visit, nor is it especially well-suited for remote work or extended study sessions. The children's area is also fairly uninviting and could benefit from improvements. In my opinion, this library is best suited for patrons who simply want a quiet place to sit and read--just be prepared, as the chairs are not the most comfortable for longer visits.

They have tables and high tops with plug access. The windows face out to the bay and seasonal closed-off street (depending on time of day). Excellent for people watching. Nice and cool air-conditioned which is needed in this heatwave. I have no need for any book services right now so can't comment on that front. I can tell you that this for sure beats the coffee shop I was at earlier that became a little loud for my liking. I should have just came straight here. That may not always be the case depending on the number of kids in-house. Oh yeah, and this is one of the LB libraries opened on Mondays and they close at 7pm. That works to my advantage as somebody who tends to work past regular office hours.
