I scheduled for my grandson to take classes via a special that Brentwood Driving School had where it cost me close to $500 for 3 driving lessons. I thought this was going to be the best way for him to get the Jitters out of driving for the first time. When I took him out on the road after the class, it was like he was not use to being in control of the car. I believe with BDS having someone with a steering wheel in the car with him, that person was actually doing the driving and he was not. I could tell quickly he was not use to being in control of the car. This was a total waste of my money and I do not recommend anyone to use BDS. Also, I did not received a report about his driving, they collected the money, picked him up, dropped him off, and I never received anything from them about how the driving went. This may be because the instructor was the one driving!! I deserve a refund but they have a no refund policy. read more

I was STUNNED to see anything but FIVE HUGE STARS for BDT!!!!! They are the BEST. From start to finish an amazingly simple process, everyone I have interacted with from a parent perspective is helpful and friendly and patient with my million questions and professional. The communication about the lessons, time, location etc is all spot on. More importantly, my daughter had a positive experience as well in training, driving with an instructor, taking her test (I highly recommend your driver take their drivers license test with BDT) and it was overall great for her as well. The classes taught her not only what she needed to be a competent driver but also hammered home many of the important safety messages we parents want our kids to know - the instructors and videos did the job. The driving lessons were super easy to schedule and arrange pick up from school or home. Simply put, I wish my drivers ed experience had been half as useful and positive, and I so appreciate the courteous and professional team. I would give 100 stars if I could!!! The classroom course was a lot of good information. The simulator was outdated and could use an upgrade. The classroom instructor lacked sensitivity around some material he showed and taught. The best part of the experience was the driving instructor Kristi. She was kind encouraging and taught my daughter so many valuable things about driving! I was forced to be the shoulder by a Brentwood Driver Training car TN license plate 4CP8713. This was an intentional act as the instructor in the right seat stuck his arm out the window and flipped me off. I called the phone number. No answer so I left my complaint on voicemail and my contact number. read more

I get that the people who work here have to work with teens all the time but the guy who runs it is rude a lot and for no reason. He needs better, clearer communication on his website, emails and verbal communications with parents and kids alike. If he doesn't like what he does he needs to change professions because he is unprofessional- which is completely unacceptable when you are paying so much money and leaving your kids there. There needs to be a lot of things fixed on the website so there aren't so many parents with the same exact questions. The things that need added or modified would be very simple. Editing my review based on the request of the owner arguing with me about my experiences, instead of considering that there might be room for improvement on how the company is run. The TLDR is if your child isn't a reliable communicator, you will not fare well with this school as they don't take the time to communicate to parents, only with the kids. Which is fine for some kids - but not all kids (some neurotypical kids struggle with this, too, by the way). Our older child attended in 2018, we were provided a schedule, and had a much better experience, so the school has gone downhill over the years. Poor communication and not great for neurotypical teens. Instructors did not include a requirement for the practical testing to have their Social Security Card (or last 4 digits) in hand to parents; it was only told to students in class. Not all teens can or will relay that information home. Multiple other pieces of 'what to expect' were provided in an email before the beginning of the week but did not include this relevant requirement. This led to a mad scramble when our son was at the DMV to get his testing approval form via phone. Practical driving session times were not provided as well, so it wasn't clear when my student needed to be picked up each day. Just not a great experience for us and I wouldn't recommend this company. Response to the owner: First - while it's the owner's belief that the communication provided by his company was sufficient, I argue that "a LOT" does not equal "effective" (and it wasn't a LOT, either). We were provided with a "what to expect this week" email with no mention of when our child would be required to stay after class for additional driving lessons, and no mention that if a student was taking the driving test, a SSN / card would be required. Adding that SINGLE sentence to that email frankly would've been enough for us to know in advance to have it and provide it (and I wouldn't have been irritated enough to bother with a negative review). We followed all other instructions in the email (provide a lunch, pen an paper would be required, etc). About the SSN requirement on the website and in the TOS - while it's great that somewhere, at some point, when we interacted with this school that information was provided, this is INEFFECTIVE communication. We signed up in March; who remembers the TOS from March - put it in the email for goodness sake. Second - the comms we did receive - an email on 7/12 (with a do not reply to this email) with the mention of bringing lunch and pen and paper, no mention of SSN needed. The email states "some driving is from class, some will drive after class until 6:30, and some will drive in the weeks following class." There was ZERO communication provided home as to when or if my child would be required to either stay until 6:30 or on a following week. There is a request to reply only if your child is not available the entire week. My husband responded 7/17 with our availability on Friday (we were headed out of town ) and only then were we informed via email our child was scheduled for his driving test Friday , and the schedule was already completed. Ok, fine. It was not clear from the email if any additional late pickups would be required earlier in the week. My husband replied to that email with follow up questions "In regards to driving lessons after class, is he slated to do any of that during 22nd - 25h? If so, will he be dropped off at home, or will you return to your Mallory Lane location? I'm trying to determine pick up times for him next week." Those questions were never answered,. The response was "he is scheduled for his last lesson on Friday 7/26 from 12:30 - 2:30. Will that not work? The schedule is already complete...." That was the last comm we got. My husband had to go into the school to ask about other driving times. If you don't have time to email 50 individual families with driving schedules, maybe you shouldn't have 50 students or hire more staff to accommodate them appropriately. read more

I had to leave a review after seeing some of these comments. Used them 4 years ago for my oldest daughter and they were amazing. Did a class at school during the break, then the driving session plus the license test. All perfectly managed and easy. (Don rocks!). Using them a 2nd time right now. They are super nice and accommodating. I don't understand knocks on their communication. This time around it's John that rocks! read more

Had two students in training at the Franklin location the week of 6/24/2024. During one of the driving sessions, my son was rear ended at a 4 way stop. It was the other drivers fault, however the instructor and school never notified us of this occurring. Didn't tell me that my daughter would still have to take the permit test. When I did BDT back in the late 90s we did not have to so I did not know. She's dyslexic , and there is no place that has actual testing for dyslexic people. They tell you to go learn it and study it and then come back.That's how they deal with dyslexia. Spent $666. Daughter got great grades in the class. Then failed the permit test at the DMV 7 times. Got worse bc now she had these random answers in her head. She never was able to get her permit. We're out all that money. They kept promising that they would help but it was impossible. They just take in as many kids as they can and shovel them in a tiny room.It's a money making ordeal these days.It's not what it used to be. They don't even prepare you for how ridiculous the permit test is, lots of memeroizing numbers and terms that no one uses. They also don't prepare you for what people really are like on the road in Franklin & Nashville these days. Nobody follows any of the rules anyway , so how does she prepare for that? read more

I think the instructors and the school part of Brentwood Driving School is good. However, if you ever have to call in to ask questions or look to add a service, good luck dealing with the woman in customer service. Condescending, smug, nasty are a few of the words that come to mind talk to this woman. Proceed with caution. The classes were fine, and the staff were friendly and helpful, but the owner verbally attacked and mocked me in front of my children for asking questions about the handling of paperwork containing personal information. I eventually got my questions answered to my satisfaction by other employees, but it is an experience that, unfortunately, neither I nor my kids will ever forget. I hesitated to post this because his staff were professional and helped us get what we needed for theDMV, but I think other potential customers should be warned. Despite having submitted all the paperwork, they claimed that my son was not registered for his class session. When presented the cancelled check, they allowed him to take the class but it caused unnecessary stress for me and my son and a trip for me back to the classroom location). After the class, I called to schedule a simulator time and a makeup class for my son. I have never been treated so rudely. I gave it two stars because the instructors were good but dealing with the office was a nightmare. read more

My daughter took the driving training class in Franklin in early June and learned a lot. She was well prepared to take her permit test and scored 100%. Her driving instructor communicated with her for the driving lessons and verified where / when she would get picked up. The office was friendly and worked with us to find driving lesson times that would work with our schedule. read more

BEWARE: BDT is just out to make money. Very disappointing. They call and convince you to defer part of your child's driving hrs so they can book more students. My child drove on actual roads for only 2 hrs!! We PAID for 6 HRS, PER THE WEBSITE'S PROMISE IN BOLD RED LETTERS!! When I went in to talk to them about this, they claimed there was "nothing they could do" because other students were booked for driving lessons. So they over-book on purpose, basically. They had no motivation to please me as a customer since the transaction was charged to my credit card immediately upon registration and is non-refundable. Like I said-out to make money. The classroom time is somewhat helpful, but very focused on "don't text and drive" rather than road/sign/right-of-way rules and how to actually drive a vehicle. Also, they count the simulation exercise (indoor machine) as 2 of the 6 driving hours you pay for!! Don't waste your time. read more

After completing the course and doing the behind the wheel, we are still having to teach our daughter everything as if she didn't even go. There was only 4 hours, not 6, of actual behind the wheel time (the other 2 hours were done on a computer simulation). And while doing the 4 hours behind the wheel, my daughter reported having to make stops at the instructor's office, and house... not quick stops. Stops that took significant chunks of time away from her behind the wheel training while she waited on the instructor to do whatever he needed to do during these stops. It seems the instructor must of used his wheel the entire time, because my daughter had zero skills with accurately steering the car. Had no clue how to do it. When asked what the instructor taught her about various aspects of driving the answer was always, "he didn't tell me anything about that." Not impressed. Not helpful. Feels like we threw a lot of money down the drain. read more
