This place needs a huge lesson in customer service. I'm…read morevisiting from out of town and had heard decent things about this place, so I decided to give it a try. We walked in around 11:30 a.m. There was only one other customer (a dad and his son) and the person who walked in just before us, who appeared to either be a friend or a regular, based on how all three employees greeted her. While they were extremely friendly to her, we weren't acknowledged at all--not even a simple "We'll be right with you." Instead, the employees stood there for more than five minutes talking about how business was, how they slept, what they did over the weekend, melatonin, and other personal topics. During that time, no one took our order or made any effort to help us. After waiting, I finally said, "If you guys are going to keep having a conversation, can we at least order our coffee and get that started?" They looked at me like I had said something unreasonable. One employee, who was sitting at a table near the counter coloring, muttered something under her breath, and they still didn't take our order. Instead, they continued their conversation. At that point, we left. This experience was completely unacceptable. Great customer service starts with acknowledging people when they walk through the door, especially when your shop is nearly empty. Unfortunately, this first impression ensured we won't be back, and I can't recommend this business to others.

Mother's Day Brunch Bust. Cant rate food or atmosphere…read morebecause we didnt get to eat & left. Setvice at the front desk was horrible. This past Wednesday I called Rastrelli's Restaurant @ the number listed in a post to make a reservation to treat my loving amazing wife to a delicious Sunday brunch to celebrate her. Instead, we were met with incompetence, poor customer service & a general unwillingness to accommodate customers (1 being a mother on Mother's Day). At first 4 frazzled greeters in black shirts could not find our reservation. Of course. The first question from the staff was when the reservation could not be located was "Did somebody call you later to confirm your reservation?" (What???? Who does that??? Isn't that what the reservation is all about???) The staff asked if somebody took down my name & number. I assured them that this happened. I added that the person even reiterated what I had told them; repeating my 1st & last name, phone number & the time for our reservation. I even showed my call log to show the time I called & to prove that nobody ever called me back. I also stated that at no point in the conversation, did the staff person say anything about anybody calling me back to confirm my reservation. During this 15-20 minute fiasco, we sat & watched the staff greet & seat numerous other parties w/ 2-3 X as many people as our party of 3. Finally the staff involved a 5th person in a red shirt who thankfully found the original call log that contained my information proving that I did in fact call in for 3 people on 05/10/26 @ 11:00 am. The staff told us that there were no tables available as we did not have a reservation, because somebody did not transfer my name from the call in list to the reservation list. As this was going on, 3 people came to the counter, paid their bill and left. I asked "Those 3 people are leaving. Why can't you just give us their table?" Again, we were told we didn't have a reservation even though they did find our name on the reservation call in log. All this went on for 30 minutes with the staff displaying a profound rigidness stating, We cant seat you....Our reservations are booked in a time specific manner......there is no wiggle room. No effort was ever made by these 5 staff members to provide any assistance, accommodation or resolution. At this point frustration set in & we left. So thanks for nothing Rastrelli's. It will be a long time before we ever go out of our way or even stop in for a meal at this establishment.

The Ghost in the Machine: A Study in Youth and Enigmas at Rastrelli's…read moreIn the heart of Clinton, Iowa, Rastrelli's stands as a sprawling monument to local tradition, a place where the weight of history is palpable in every dining room. However, a recent visit suggests that while the walls remain steeped in heritage, the current operation is being steered by a remarkably green crew. The waitstaff and floor team are almost exclusively young, possessing an earnest but unpolished energy that seems to operate in a vacuum. Management was entirely invisible, a phantom presence that left the youthful staff to navigate the complexities of a large-scale dinner service without a seasoned captain at the helm. This lack of professional oversight leads to a breakdown in the basic choreography of service. The tables here are notably small, a logistical challenge that became apparent when steaming plates of hot pasta arrived while our salad trays still occupied the limited real estate. It is a fundamental error in pacing that a present manager would have corrected with a single glance. Furthermore, for a house that prides itself on its Italian roots, the absence of vinegar to accompany the olive oil for the bread was a curious and disappointing omission. The staffing model remains equally baffling. Our waitress seemed to be burdened with nearly every occupied table in the room. We were fortunate that the evening was not particularly busy; had the dining room been at capacity, the system surely would have buckled under the weight of such an uneven distribution of labor. The most surreal chapter of the evening, however, was the appearance of the "orange dish"--a neon-hued confection studded with marshmallows. When we sought clarification, the staff--notably, not the chef--explained that this enigmatic staple is prepared en masse every morning. It is a dish that feels like a spirited, mid-century potluck survivor, an orange enigma that remains the most bizarre part of the Rastrelli's experience. "Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire." -- Gustav Mahler Rastrelli's remains a cornerstone of the Clinton landscape, but the current fire seems to be flickering under the weight of an absent management and a disjointed service rhythm. While the youthful staff is to be commended for their effort, the establishment would benefit greatly from a steadying hand to guide the basics.
