The 1st time, I felt a little intimidated by the thoughts of the process to make the design because I didn't know what to expect. However, the instructors are very encouraging and thorough in explaining the process (multiple times and step-by-step as you are working ) and it actually turns out to be easy IF you follow instructions well! During the class, the instructors are patient and very helpful with trying to stimulate the creative minds so that everyone produces something that they like. I appreciated that instructors are willing to help as much or as little as we wanted. The studio is super adorable. It is located within the Afton Village complex near the YMCA and next door to Edible Arrangements. It is a somewhat small space which isnt at all a negative because they have made good use of the space so that supplies are easily accessible. We were the only two in class that day, but I would guess that there were spots for maybe 16-20 people. I initially thought price of class was high, but once I arrived and started crafting I am agreeable with the prices. There is a lot of time and supplies used. I also like that you can make your item as personal or basic (as in copying straight from the model/pic) as you like. Be sure to grab a loyalty cards! You only have to attend 5 classes to earn a free one!

Classes are taught by the excellent Mark Gucciardi, a former teacher at the Florence Art Academy, teaching in the Florence tradition. He has a fabulous eye and never runs out of suggestions and techniques, yet he remains kind and encouraging. At first I wondered if this training would be a good idea, as I've always enjoyed making art that does not look classical. But what I've found is that my eye is getting better and that what I am learning here is strengthening my more abstract work. I also love that the artists taking the class are focused and dedicated, another source of inspiration. Most of them work full time, so the fact that they are making time for this activity shows a degree of commitment that is energizing to be around.
