We've had one of those years where all the…read morebig expense items happen- car accidents, ER visits, car problems, and eventually septic issues. We weren't aware when we purchased our house that it was on septic (happens with an as-is purchase) and found out after doing a good bit of landscaping. We decided to leave the tank be until something happened and sure enough a few months later after some heavy rain we found the original concrete tank had started collapsing in on itself forming a small sinkhole (aka toddler death trap in my toddler's favorite place to play). In a tizzy we called multiple septic companies to get an idea of how long it would last before the whole system failed and to get quotes on replacing the tank and drain field. Sandhills were some of the first to come out that same day to look at it. Other companies couldn't come by for another day or two. From the start I appreciated their quick response to help calm nerves when other companies weren't as rushed to help. I did end up getting quotes from 3-4 other main companies around and ultimately we went with Sandhills for a few reasons but the biggest one was they were the only ones who were willing to work around our wild garden situation and try their best not to kill things. The other companies were a lot less willing to work with us on that and also were very pushy about doing things "their way", which just didn't allow for much as far as saving our plants went. The quote we got from Sandhills was a little higher than the other companies but we chose them for their willingness to work around plants and their professionalism. They weren't able to fit us in for about 3 weeks, which stressed me out with a septic tank on the fritz and company visiting us and a toddler all while being pregnant, but thankfully the tank lasted and we didn't have to resort to another company. I do think they'd have done their best to move us up if the system totally failed but they are also busy so it just worked out in the end and I'm thankful for that. Rodney and Deshon were very nice and worked hard during the two days it took to replace the septic tank and redo all the drain field, and also demolish the old tank so it wouldn't be a sinkhole anymore. He even had his son out working (summer job I guess!) which sped things up. A few things were unexpected for them like a lot of groundwater filling the hole before placing the tank but my toddler and I were out there watching a lot of the work (excavators are pretty cool, and I'm a soil scientist who loves to see some redox features) and at no point did I hear any complaining about that delaying them or the heat or anything. I've worked manual labor jobs before and am prone to complaining about things like that so I noticed and appreciated that. They also didn't up the final cost due to those delays and I thought that was a possibility; given our year I'm thankful they didn't! Overall I can't recommend them enough and am very glad the stars aligned for us to hire them. Nearly all plants survived the chaos and I am finally not stressed out about our septic tank.

Initial estimate was over $2000 higher that three other companies. They came back and offered something more reasonable and kept checking back. ( over period of about a week). When I finally accepted their more reasonable offer, they tried to tell me that quote was only good that day cause their were in the area that day. Another lie - their first quote and follow up more reasonable offer was given relatively late in the day - no way they could have started work that day and no mention of the more reasonable offer being based on them being " in the area". Only when I said I would accept their more reasonable offer - take it or leave were they willing to honor their more reasonable offer. No discussion of discounts at that time. Told them I needed to see in writing their documents for license/insured/ bonded and quote/ scope before starting work. they started work without presenting any of this. by the time I got home from work - they were wrapping up. 35% coupon came in the mail before they started work and after we agreed upon a price and scope - talking about a two day window here. The coupon is meant to get their foot in the door. from other reviews -looks like they routinely will not honor it. When I presented the coupon - they refused to honor it. Claimed it was "included" in the original quote - absolute lie. Some of the workers were drinking beer while working - high risk work and alcohol not a good mix. Get it in writing up front. happily no one got hurt.

I saw Rhino Tree Experts in my neighborhood and spoke to Andore who quoted a fair price to do a technically difficult job. They came the next day with a big crew with chain saws, walked the logs out to the curb rather than bring in big machinery. They did the work fast and safe. They said they are starting to do business in Middle Tennessee, I hope so, I would use them again.

I was purchasing a house in Aiken, South Carolina summer 2024. Ehlman Property Inspections was…read morehired to inspect the house on August 25, 2024. The seller had asked that I not "nickel and dime" him to death but they would repair anything major found with the house. Chris Ehlman did the inspection and sent me a report . It was easily broken down into three sections: Major, moderate and minor concerns. Under major there were only 2 items: ductwork was wet and waste discharge pipe was leaking. These were zero problems in negotiating repairs with seller. I moved in on September 27, 2024...the day Hurricane Helene hit. It was on this day that I discovered that almost none of the windows opened. There was one in the front of the house I could get open a bit. I had no power for 12 days and no windows that could open. It was miserable, not to mention dangerous if there had been a fire, tree fall on the house, etc. This was the first thing of many I would discover that had been missed by Ehlman Property on the inspection. Soon after I had a chimney company come out to clean the chimneys. The inspection report stated nothing about the chimneys except a green check mark noting "okay" with the wording "chimney should be cleaned and inspected by licensed chimney sweep before first use". It was a shock then to find out that the mortar on both chimneys was ancient, crumbling and that the flashing was missing or defective allowing water into both the attic and the crawlspace with water damage and moisture on the wood in both areas. It was this company that told me there was a hole and a sump pump in the crawl space under the house. The cost to fix the chimneys was around 2000.00. I gave grace because I thought maybe the chimneys weren't within the realm of inspection but certainly the wet, damaged wood should have been reported. It got worse. During the course of these repairs it was reported by a contractor that there was a large amount of water under the house and that there was a pipe under the house that was not connected which most likely was resulting in the water under the house. Water under a house is bad especially in the south. I had a plumbing company come out immediately and inspect the house. The sump pump was not working and not only was not working was not up to size or code needed. The discharge pipe for the sump pump wasn't big enough. The pipe that wasn't connected and dumping water was easily located (see picture) and most likely responsible for the water under the house. It was also noted at the time that a portion of the bathtubs were not framed and in danger of falling through to the crawl space. They also found some pipe under the kitchen sink that wasn't up to code or working correctly. None of these items were on the inspection report. Plumbing repairs cost 3800.00 and the bathtub frames were 2400.00. Ehlman property was contacted immediately and a request was made for reimbursement for repairs that were missed on the inspection report. Ehlman Property replied to my request after 6 weeks stating that the only thing they would do is offer 825.00 towards the missed items. The reasoning was the service contract states they are only liable for 1.5 times the cost of the inspection so that adds up to 825.00. To receive the 825.00 I would have to sign an agreement to not say anything negative about the company. I've spent almost 10,000.00 on repairing major items on this house and still finding things that will cost more money to repair. If the inspection report had been correct and thorough the seller would have paid for these items. My advice is read the service agreement with a fine tooth comb. Find out if they have insurance because I was never offered info on an insurance company to make a claim. Be present! I lived out of state and couldn't be there and don't use Ehlman Properties for your inspection

Gave us tons of insights not only on our lawn, but on our solar setup for our camper, and even showed us that a section of our roof was leaking and saved us a huge amount of money. 3. Gave us a great rate. You could tell he was only interested in giving us a fair price, and even gave us tips on how we could save some money on the work. 4. Pressured washed our house as contracted, and then pressure washed our entire back patio for free just because "it looked pretty bad".
