Our friends had the bratwurst & potato with eggs (actual name I don't remember but it was a special for the month of September) both were ok. The bratwurst was the hit of the night with everyone thinking it tasted the best. The potatoes with eggs were ok but serving size was too large for the person who ordered it preferring the size of the potato salad over the meal. The service was apparently during shift change because getting someone over to the table for more drinks was difficult (unless you apparently were at a locals table) so sitting for extra drinks didn't really happen. Actually I can exit my cool apartment building, turn left, and just keep walking straight even when the street changes its name in one block - and arrive at Laurenz in ten minutes. Laurenz looks great - outside & inside. Many clever beer sayings adorn the walls outside and you even find a few funny ones inside. There is a bar and a couple of dining areas. You can eat & drink where you choose. Since they make their own beer here, let's start with that. The beer is great! I had a Vienna Red beer here that tasted fresh and nicely balanced with hops & malt. The soup I ordered was the Beer Cheese Soup which was so good I could have eaten a whole pot of it. I loved how there were still chunks of melted cheese residing in its delicious broth. An Austrian soft pretzel nicely accompanied this offering. My main course was also tremendous. - a delicious pumpkin Flammküchen with Creme Fraiche, caramelized onions, Grana Padano, and Austrian pumpkin seed oil. The crust of this tasty concoction was perfectly baked. Service was most friendly and efficient. Laurenz is a winner! I arrived at 10:30am but the doors were locked and no signs of life. So, I walked around - it's a touristy shopping area. I came back close to 11am and got seated immediately. I was the first person there. I had my tastebuds set to have currywurst since I won't be going to Germany on this trip. Austria is Germany's neighbor so, why not? The lovely server/ bartender gave me the breakfast menu which of course didn't have currywurst. I politely asked her if it would be possible to have currywurst. She nicely told me she would ask the kitchen if they can make it happen. As I waited for an answer, I was looking at the breakfast menu for a plan B but I simply wasn't feeling breakfast food. She came back with great news! They can start the fryer for the fries but it would take a while which was fine. At least, I was in a warm place in the middle of winter! My currywurst hit the spot! It was hot, had the right flavors, and the fries were fresh, hot and crispy. If beer is your jam, this is the place to be. This is a bar after all!
