AutoInstincts diagnosed the issue quickly and said I needed a new trans pan gasket and it be $678 [4hrs of labor]. I approved it but when they started the work the tech found that the front 4 trans pan bolts were loose. They tightened the bolts, topped off the fluid and test drove it. No leaks. For this they only billed me $233. Either the tech or the shop mgr could have simply done the original job and made more $ but they both were honest, which is rare nowadays. I will be bringing all my Japanese cars to Auto-instincts going forward. I won't have to worry if they're overcharging or trying to upsell me.

I brought my vehicle in because it had started making a pretty terrifying noise and I wanted to make sure nothing serious was going on. I wasn't in a rush and completely understand that they may have been busy, however, I drive a lot for work and was genuinely concerned that something potentially catastrophic could happen. Instead of feeling like my concerns were taken seriously, I felt brushed off and was told there was nothing wrong during our test drive even though I repeatedly pointed the issue out. It felt like a complete waste of my time. There was zero genuine help or effort to diagnose the noise and problems. The attitude from the owner and the dismissive nature of the conversations made the experience frustrating and simply wasn't worth my time or money. I ended up taking it to another shop right after (Jesse's Automotive), where the mechanic immediately recognized what I was describing over the phone and was even able to confirm the issue just by opening the hood! Literally took 2 minutes and all I was asking for from Superior Auto Repairs. I wasn't expecting to get it fixed that day from here, but just rather have the peace of mind it was safe to drive. Unfortunately, my experience with Superior Automotive felt dismissive and unnecessarily rude. I was very disappointed with my experience at Japanese Auto Center…read more My check-engine light suddenly came on while I was driving to work, and my car stalled on the road. I stopped at the nearest place for help and was referred to Japanese Auto Center. When I arrived, Kenny told me to leave the car for about two hours and said it should be ready. At around 4:30 PM, I was told they needed to keep my car overnight because a part had not arrived and that I could pick it up at noon the next day. I explained that I had to work early and asked if I could pick it up at 8 or 9 AM instead. The next morning, Mathew called and told me my car was ready. Kenny was not there, and I was charged $665, which was more than the amount I had been quoted over the phone. When I asked to speak with Kenny, I was told he was at the hospital visiting his wife and would not be back until around noon. I had no choice but to pay and take my car because I needed it for work. Kenny later told me he would credit me a few dollars on my next visit. I also noticed that the mileage had increased by nearly 60 miles while my car was left overnight. I was never given an explanation for this, which was very concerning. The repair included replacing four spark plugs, the mass air flow sensor, and the air filter--even though I had replaced the air filter only a few months earlier. These repairs also did not seem to correspond with what the scanner had originally indicated. Most importantly, exactly one week later, my check-engine light came back on. At that point, I no longer felt confident returning to this shop to have the problem addressed again. Overall, I felt the service was poorly communicated, unnecessarily expensive, and lacking transparency. I paid $665 and still had the same problem one week later. Based on this experience, I will not be returning to Japanese Auto Center and cannot recommend this shop.
