In November 2024 I learned about Braids Experts by Mimi from a friend. I went to visit, and it was a very large braiding salon. I spoke with Mimi who explained who would braid my hair as I wanted a Crochet Braid hair style. I made my appointment with Bibiche, who Mimi called the Master Crochet Braider. Bibiche was definitely the Master Crochet braider, she did a fantastic job on my hair. She braided my hair very well, and I loved my hair part, it was the way I wanted it, nice and full. I couldn't believe how fast my hair was done, in 2 hours. Bibiche is very professional, caring, and sweet, and was concerned about the condition of my hair as it was very dry. My hairstyle lasted about a month, and I received lots and lots of compliments. My work place offered corporate headshots a week after I had my hair done, and the photos came out amazing. I have been going to see Bibiche regularly and look forward to being glammed up for my vacations. The appointment process is also very easy and professional. Thank you Bibiche and Mimi! I live in Bk this place is in Bx. This place is at the end of the 2 line, literally right off the train. The spot is bigger than it looks and they have braiding stations all over the place. It was easy to make an appointment over text. I sent a pic of what I wanted and a price was sent. The best part was that they are quick and professional. Once they started they did not stop and all the braids were very neat. They also considered of my weak edges. Half my head is shaved so I was out of there quick-quick! I've been going to this shop for years but they have truly changed for the worst. The styles are extremely overpriced, they rush doing your hair and were extremely rough with my head for no reason and they DO NOT follow reference pictures! 2 times in a row they have not done what I've asked for after saying they could. I LOVE going to get my braids done at Mimi's. Usually my braids are charged by the length. Waist length is usually $180 and usually go for knotless or kinky twist and out the door within 4 hrs. There is three floors with many stylists, directly near the train station. It's also best that you make a appointment. My experience at Braid expert By Mimi was interested. I got there early and from 9am to 1pm my hair was done and I was ready to go. The shop is several floors so you don't feel like you're on top of each other. It's clean and comfortable. I had 2 to 3 people in my hair working diligently to get it done. Only problem I had is I was quoted one price via text and once we were finished, the Braider told me another price saying for the length, Now that was actually what I was going to give with tip including. I live been twice. I like that everyone is able to do a great job. No excessive pulling or extreme tight braids. I been able to move my head; pull up my braids to style them and most importantly, sleep well from the first night. THIS SALON IS A GEM!! Excellent experience at Braid Experts by Mimi! My friend/hair stylist recommended them (Bibich personally) after I had a horrible experience getting knotless boho braids from another place. I reached out to Mimi and she was very responsive (replied to me within minutes) and accommodating (scheduled me at short notice). Her prices are VERY affordable ($300 for takedown of old braids, wash & install new braids) and the salon is well clean, organized. The staff are all respectful/friendly and my hair braider, Bibich was professional, patient and kind - I had changed my mind about the colors I wanted for my braids and she waited for me to take my time to make decisions without haste. Her work is very neat and the assistant braiders (I'm unsure of their names) were good. Service was excellent! The entire process took 8 hours including; taking out matted/tangled boho knotless braids, washing/blow drying hair and braiding hair in knotless braids (butt length)! Everyone works well together and they all did a beautiful job! This will be my new hair braiding salon. I will be back before the holidays kick off!! read more

Over the weekend I washed my braids and literally everything slipped out of my head. I was very upset and angrily messaged Mimi. She responded, apologized and offered to have my braids redone. Still upset at the idea of trekking back to the Bronx from Brooklyn, having to buy more hair, and spend another 8hrs getting my hair done - but for the fact that she offered to have my hair done over I sucked it up. The two ladies that did my hair over were both professional and did a good job. Parts are sharp, braiding neat. If these two were the ones who originally did my braids my initial review wouldn't have gone up. I'm only sorry that I couldn't leave these two a good tip because at this point I had literally already exhausted a whooping $925 on boho braids two weeks . $400 on hair that literally went down the drain (and I had to put in a maintenance request to unclogged my tub), $260 for the initial install and a $60 tip, $170 on new hair, $40 tip for the ladies that did my hair over, and sat through some gossip. Christmas Eve, I came to Mimis salon to get my hair braided. I am growing my hair back and had been going to a few different shops over the last several months.. A week ago I was driving around and stumbled onto this salon. I never entered the salon but saw that all the braiders had on smocks. I thought wow, what a Professional and efficient establishment . On Tuesday evening, I took my previous braids out, washed and conditioned my hair. This morning after my early appt with client, I went to the shop. I arrived about 10:15am, parking is a challenge but it's so worth it. Because my hair is short and my sides are just growing back because I shaved the sides over the summer. I chose knotless box braids. This is my go to spot. Even once I start my Loc journey, Braid Experts can take care of me. If there was 0 I would give that. I thought this would be a pleasant experience but Mimi proved to be a thirsty money hungry business owner who most likely is not licensed. I had requested a style and sent pictures of my hair (Locs) which I had prior before without no issues. I was told 1. It can't be done over Locs which is incorrect and very offensive 2. I had to pay for new hair once I got to the shop. I was already apprehensive once she told me they could not do the style but again I wanted to try and give her a chance. I thought everything was well until the take down....where I noticed the stylist RIPPED hair from my permanent parts to add to my edges to make cleaner parts, something I had specific as to not have put stress on them. I now have to pay even more money to get my hair repaired. I'm traumatized as Ive had so many protective styles and this has never happened. my communication with Mimi where she laughed and said she could not help and also tried to brag about how much I paid is not worth anything to her. This business more than likely is not licensed and people should be AWARE that they can only do certain types of hair and are very unprofessional as her husband was there unannounced as she must've told him what she done. One of the worst braiding experiences I've ever had. So first things first. The shop is three floors and they have no regard for personal space. Not all the hair stylist braid at the same capacity. It was 51 stylist. They have 2 braiders, one that parts the hair and starts it and one that finishes the braids Those two stylist bounce around from head to head. The lady started and stopped my hair a hundred times. I was in the salon from 830 to 6 pm . I almost went into a diabetic shock. Than they had 3 people around me, the lady was starting and stopping other people's hair. I seen one stylist Pick her nose and ​go back to braiding a girl's hair. The price was suppose to be 280, 50 for three hair buy the Landy charged me 330. Which the boxes isn't straight its was poorly started. I have been going to Braid Experts for many years, however, they have completely fallen off. When I initially went to get my hair braided I asked for a center part for my medium sized knot less braids and there is a braid in the exact center of my head where the center part should and all of my braids are different sizes, small and medium. Then I went back to get a touch up on the perimeter of my hair and the young girl that was taking out my braids cut my natural hair! The women in the shop had to stop her and another stylist started cutting at a length that matched my hair but my then the damage was already done. No apology, nothing. I was livid, but I didn't say anything as I didn't want to over react . I already had a rough day and I know it would have ended badly additionally I have a very calm demeanor. How can you be a Braid Expert cutting my natural hair?! I've sent SO many people to this "salon" over the years but the last two people I sent will be going to other salons going forward and I will do the same! Consider going somewhere else. I have been going to this place for over a year now, as my original braider moved out of state. At first I liked them because I was in and out, however due to the unprofessionalism and inconsistency in prices, I will not be returning. The workers sit there and discuss clients in their language, no response when you greet them, the building itself is a fire hazard with only one entrance/exit with multiple floors. It's over 25+ chairs on each floor except the first floor so imagine if there was a fire? Also they will change the price on you the day of the appointment. These people are unlicensed and SCAMMERS. Hair tools are not cleaned, and I imagine they have about 80+ clients a day. The prices does not make sense. I inquired about large Knotless which is $180, if you want to add curls, the price is increased to $250, with an addition $50 for the human curly hair. $300 for LARGE Knotless?! I asked for boxed braids...Mimi was very nice pleasant and works with you but I have to say that her sister did my braids and took nearly 8 hours :-(!!!! when done it looked cute and i felt beautiful!..but i kept getting told by other people that, get their hair done that she didn't do a good job. And listen i know i have soft short hair but my braids looked frizzy and so loose at the roots and just kept sliding off. I went back for a touch up and a wash..that didn't last either. Again, nice place lots of braiders and I give them a hand to be working on their feet all day for hours but I really wanted a longer lasting results. Horrible crochet work. There are 1 inch gaps or separation that i can actually feel my scalp and the wind through the spaces. I'm giving it a 2 only because they are doing a good job being safe with covid. Using masks and making you wash/sanitize your hands when you come in. However.... idk if the person I got to braid my hair was an "Expert" or braid helper, or just didn't know what she was doing but she made a HOT ASS MESS out of an easy style on my head. After dragging my corn rows (not starting the braid at the tip of the hairline), I asked to redo the braid and she did but only move the position of the braid and drag it still... at this point Im visibly annoyed because the rest of the workers are looking and not helping the braider correct the problem... I'm saying this to say... when you come here, check your braids while they are braiding. I was over it by the time she finished and I just wanted to LEAVE. My braider clearly was not an EXPERT cause these braids are looking real "beginner" like.
