I just felt her put it on my scalp but apparently she kept adding it in as she braided my hair down. All of my hair was soooooo hard. I had to shampoo it like 4 times to get it out. My scalp literally hurts. My hair is visibly thinner and half of my ponytail is see through. I mean she TOTALLY RUINED my hair. Right after it was safe to see our dear stylist again, carpal tunnel took her out, sadly. Once again, my daughter came through. She had gotten tired of twists and was ready for a weave. Now in college and a mature consumer, she immersed herself in Yelp reviews in search of a stylist. She read good things about Monique at Sola and made her appointment. I was so proud of her when called me from the parking lot, nervous, but taking control, once again, of her beauty regimen. She loved Monique, and the results were gorgeous. So, mama, also tired of twists, followed her lead once again and made my own appointment. Monique is the quintessential professional. I asked her advice ahead of our time together and she was patient, giving me an excellent referral for weave hair. Her salon is spotless, serene and full of light. Your time is your time, and you aren't rushed. No other customers are sitting by, competing for a service. Not because she isn't booked solid, but because she is considerate. Monique listens intently, helping to resolve any issues you mention. I have never had someone be so gentle with my scalp. She braided and sewed me up, quickly and efficiently. Since I've been struggling with my hair and most stylists rip through it whenever I get any style I added on the honeycomb detangling. I left wondering if the 'gentle hair comb out' was ever in the room with us. My stylist basically just brushed through it... with no difference in technique compared to the girl next to me who only got the blow dry service without any added detangling service. So safe to say that stylists rip through your hair whether you pay extra for soft detangling or not. Considering I had just combed through and detangled my hair just a few days prior, I also know for a fact that the huge clumps of hair that were left on the floor were not 'normal shedding' and that was extremely irritating to see because again.... i paid extra for a softer detangling to avoid that. I also had hoped that i'd get some product considering the all natural ingredients highlighted on their page and I've been desperate to try and find something that works. But every question I asked I was met with short (although polite) one word responses. There was no interest trying to understand my hair needs and what products they had to help me in my journey. My stylist actually tried selling me on a spray bottle right when I sat down without any conversation or questions or anything. How could you know what my hair might need without looking at it?? Going through it?? Asking me how my hair has been?? Just an immediate upsell which of course doesn't feel like their priority is maintaining my healthy hair like they claim but instead its just to make money. I paid $150 for 4 cornrows and soft detangling... for what I got I could've gone to any beauty supply down the street for less than half the cost and the same amount of breakage and styling. When I arrived (5min early) I was assigned to a braider who spent about 45 minutes just sectioning the hair. At the time, I didn't complain, even though it seemed like a long time. After that, the staff started discussing something among themselves, and the braider working on my hair left. I assumed she would return, but after waiting about 35 minutes, I was informed that she had left because the salon owner felt she was too slow and decided to split the job between two braiders. According to what I was told, she became upset and left. By that point, I had already been at the salon for 1 hour and 30 minutes. I continued waiting, trying to decide what to do, until I had been there for a full 2 hours. I then explained that it was already 4:00 p.m. and that I had no intention of staying at the salon later than 8:00 p.m. This was exactly why I had mentioned from the beginning that I have a lot of hair. Instead, I was told to wait another 30 minutes to an hour for a different braider to arrive before they could even begin the service. The fact that the hair had already been sectioned and prepared was not my responsibility, but the owner kept saying that just to keep me in the store waiting. This entire situation demonstrated a lack of preparation and professionalism on the part of the salon management. The owner already knew the amount of hair I have and the type of service required, yet assigned me to someone she herself described as being too slow for the job. As a result, I spent over two hours at the salon without the service even beginning and ultimately left frustrated after wasting half of my day.

He installed my first weave when I moved to California and has my caring for my locs ever since. He even did my first ever haircut which I absolutely love! I visit the location on Saturdays, where there's also a farmers market every weekend! The salon is located inside the Baldwin Hills Mall on the second floor. The salon is always pristine and you're greeted with smiling faces. I usually don't have to wait but if I do it's just a few minutes. If the brow doctor is in, you can quickly have them done while you wait. They also offer mimosas while they service you which is a nice touch. The best part, there's always some good music playing. All of the chairs are to the right when you walk in with great lighting and very large mirrors. The shampoo bowls are straight ahead from the mirrors, with big comfortable reclining chairs with a matching footrest! You really get to relax at the shampoo bowl. I highly recommend Sadou and his staff. They are all extremely professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I would definitely recommend them, they know what they're doin!

Yet I've stopped coming to him recently because of a few issues. For one, he cancelled our appointment the day of, without offering a reasonable time or compensation to come in and make up. I had to leave for two weeks half a week later, so I didn't cut my cut until three weeks later when I was back in town. He also crashed out on me when I told him I wasn't happy with the cut. Mind you, this was the first time I had asked for an edit and I decided to call him instead of text because I respected his craft, and the first words out of his mouth were, "Oh my god, you can't be serious." I was completely taken aback and I didn't know how to respond with how unprofessional, emotional, and condescending he was towards me. He preceded to give a poor edit without much time and attention, and that completely turned me off to seeing him again. I never understood why he got so mad when my hair never required heavy maintenance or a foil or anything like that; it was literally just a 15 minute hair cut. That situation alone was a HUGE deal breaker, and I'm still bothered by it to this day. There were also many times I sat down at the agreed upon time, and I had to wait 30+ minutes for him to finish with the current client. I felt like he was more unprofessional than reviewers had let on, but he gave decent cuts, so I never complained. It's too bad, because otherwise, I would agree with what everyone else is saying. He's a great guy except for that last month I was with him.
