I've read many good reviews for Dugwell Pest Control. For everyday pest control that may do very…read morewell. However, my experience was not as glowing. Dugwell came out to treat our log cabin for carpenter bees prior to the closing. I saw the invoice which went to both parties. All the invoice said was "treated" carpenter bees. After the closing we had some things to move in. I noticed the carpenter bee activity and started looking around the outside of the house. I didn't see any indication the bee holes were treated. Could have been, but no evidence of it. I called Dugwell and tried to find out what exactly "treated" meant. She couldn't tell me what exactly was done but she said she could send him there on Wednesday which was yesterday. Since we are moving from Buffalo, NY we're not down there full time yet. So a couple weeks ago when we were there I installed a security system that I could monitor remotely. It consisted of 3 4k cameras outside and some inside cameras. Works perfectly. I also had a 6 ft step ladder that I used on the rear of the home. Not only was there lots of carpenter bee activity but woodpecker damage as well. I treated the entire back of the house with a foaming pesticide that goes in the "tunnels" and "chambers" After using this product I waited 24 hours before I filled the holes with silicone and wood filler. The next day there were dead bees all over the roof. Same in the front on the lower face of the house. The front face is about 25 feet. So I couldn't reach. When the tech arrived he called me. I explained that I did the back of the house. I just needed him to focus on the front. No problems on the sides of the cabin. He said he would get out his ladder and "treat" the front. Later in the day I checked my cameras and I just wanted to scream. His ladder was a folding 13' (maybe) ladder. He started in the back on the area I already did. But he stood on the ladder just enough to see over the roof and then used a backpack sprayer and from about 12' away just sprayed the hell out of the back wall including soaking my new cameras with pesticide. He sprayed the windows and then the camera a second and third time. The main roof was shingle and the roof over the patio was metal. Now it's covered in pesticide. So the front where I wanted him to focus was just standing on the ground and spraying the hell out of the front face of the house including the 2 sliding doors and big windows up above. I had paid a window cleaner $200 to clean those windows inside and out. He was there an hour and worked about 15 minutes. I take with his boss who had excuses for everything. He said that just spraying the holes works very well. I don't see how that is effective. 95% or more of the pesticide is on the faces of the house, not where it needs to be at all. He said the policy is to not get on a roof. Not only did he defend this poor work, he told me to use another company. when I complained about the heavy spray of pesticide on my cameras he said, "It usually dries clear" Clearly he doesn't care and this is how he runs his business. I'll file a complaint with the BBB and try to get my cameras replaced. Stay away from Dugwell Pest Control in Rocky Mount, VA.

They worked entirely through my realtor and never contacted me directly to confirm scheduling. I was told they would be out Friday, but instead they showed up unannounced on Thursday when I wasn't ready. Because of that, we had to reschedule -- and when I asked for proof of the original appointment, no one could provide any record. When I finally spoke with management, the manager was extremely rude and dismissive. She told me they don't have a scheduling system that shows appointments but insisted she was right and I was wrong -- even though they never once communicated with me directly. I paid an expedite fee to get the work done so I could sell my home, which I was fine with. But they didn't even resolve the issue the first time, which ended up delaying my home sale. I had to place several thousand dollars in escrow as a show of good faith that the issue would eventually be fixed for the buyer. After all that, I was later charged a cancellation fee for the initial mix-up -- despite the fact that no one could show me any signed agreement, message, or proof that I had the wrong date. When I brought this up with management again, I was met with more rudeness and no accountability. I was told they would "talk with the realtor," but I never received a call back. Instead, I received a collections threat letter -- with someone else's name on it! The entire experience felt careless, unorganized, and frankly sketchy. Between the lack of communication, rude customer service, surprise fees, and sloppy paperwork, I would strongly caution anyone against using Allied Termite and Pest Control. There are plenty of other companies that are far more professional and transparent.

However, they did not provide any effective assistance. I moved to a house in which some raccoons had nested in the rear awning of the house, which they had access to due to some repairs that were needed. I called Star City Pest Control, and they told me that they could put in a special door that would allow the raccoons to exit but not return. They told me this would cost $200 plus another $99 for a mandatory inspection. I balked at the idea of paying $300, but when the raccoons got bolder and started to come to my window at night I caved and called SCPC back. Star City dispatched staff for an inspection a few days later. The men who came were professional and courteous, but the inspection was short and pointless since I already knew where the raccoons were nesting and how they were getting there. The raccoons were not present when the men came by for the inspection, and it was annoying to think how easily they could have cleared the whole issue up if they could have just blockaded the entryway then and there. They did not take any measurements for the special door or do anything else productive. I did ask them to look at the attic before they left since the woman on the phone kept emphasizing to me that the inspection would necessarily include the attic. It was clear the men had already concluded that the attic was a non-issue since the awning was not connected to the attic, but I felt gypped and wanted to get my money's worth. I was shocked when I subsequently received the estimate. Instead of the $200 I had been quoted over the phone, the estimate was for nearly $700, more than it would cost to just permanently repair the awning. When I told my neighbors about the estimate, they concluded that the company was trying to exploit the fact that I am female and new to the area. One of my neighbors said he had used Star City Pest Control to have three animals removed for only $150 (SCPC denies this, but why would my neighbor lie about that?). Even if their pricing was not discriminatory, the whole business model felt predatory to me, like they are trying to take advantage of people in a state of crisis and drag out the process to make as much money as possible. Consequently, I decided I would handle the matter on my own, and I am happy to say that the raccoons are now gone. I only wish I had not bothered with Star City Pest Control in the first place; now I am out $99 for absolutely nothing.
