I was informed that the existing root would have to be removed before the metal post could be inserted. My dentist recommended Dr. Adel Talfilis in Carmel Valley for the extraction. Because of my travel schedule, I did not have the time to interview a number of specialists, rather I went with my dentist's recommendation. Dr. Talfilis recommended general anesthesia for the procedure. Soon after the surgery I noticed I was bleeding from not only the site of the extraction but also from the adjacent front tooth. Upon closer inspection, I realized that the adjacent tooth was a little loose and twisted (torqued) during the surgery. Dr. Talfilis downplayed any issue and said the pain would subside, and the tooth should be pushed back in line with gum pressure. Needless to say, he was not correct. My own dentist was very surprised that the adjacent tooth was damaged by the extraction. After a very painful week following the surgery, my general dentist bonded the tooth to one of my canine teeth to reduce movement. Now, 5 months later, the tooth adjacent to the surgical site is still painful and uncomfortable. I anticipate that that this damaged tooth may require a root canal, which was directly caused by Dr. Talfilis surgical work. Do your homework before selecting a dental specialist.

Dr. Tawfilis and his office staff immediately validated my experience and worked quickly to get me scheduled for surgery to repair my broken chin. Dr. Tawfilis is clearly passionate about his work, and his enthusiasm gave me confidence throughout the process. His staff was equally incredible--empathetic, friendly, and diligent in working with my insurance to ensure my procedures were covered. Scheduling was easy, and the entire experience was as smooth as I could have hoped for given the circumstances. If you're in need of an oral surgeon, I highly recommend Dr. Tawfilis and his amazing team!

I came in with a very infected wisdom tooth that caught me completely off-guard, and the entire staff was only focused on taking away my pain and treating me. I had all my wisdom teeth removed the very next day, and even though I was very nervous (I've never been under anesthesia before), Dr.Sidal's and the staff's positivity and light jokes made me feel comfortable and safe. Dr. Sidal even personally called me the night before and the night of my surgery to make sure I was feeling OK and to answer any questions I had about my medication. Based on his previous office manager's assurance that insurance would void the prior claim, I proceeded with treatment and paid in full upfront the next day. The insurance claim was ultimately not voided, leaving me responsible for $2,527.40 out of pocket. I felt the manager just wanted to get the money from me and I felt cheated. Unfortunately, the replacement crown placed by Dr. Alhamdi also resulted in failed margin fitting and seal. After reviewing X rays that I specifically requested, I noticed a distal margin ledge that was never disclosed to me. Dr. Alhamdi kept saying the margin fit was acceptable, but two independent dentists later confirmed the margin issue and an inadequate seal. Dr. Alhamdi said he can redo the crown for my son not because he made some errors but because of a courtesy of my request which made me feel he is not an honest person. Despite multiple written and phone requests, the office has never provided my son's clinical notes nor responded to my refund request. This was already the second failed crown on the same tooth, and my son now needs a third replacement. Keeping repeating the crown 3 times plus the original crown is damaging the tooth a lot and my son is only 17 years old. Given the repeated issues, lack of transparency, and poor follow up, I no longer trust this office for care.

As a small business owner, I genuinely dislike leaving negative reviews -- I understand how much…read morethey matter. But my experience was so unacceptable that I feel obligated to warn others. I was referred to Dr. Evans specifically because he is a biological dentist who specializes in ceramic implants. I scheduled my appointment about a month in advance. Before my visit, I proactively sent my existing 3D scan to the office via file transfer so I wouldn't need to be re-exposed to X-rays. I called to confirm receipt -- and they confirmed they had it. When I arrived for my 2:00 PM appointment, the front desk told me I would need a new 3D scan. I explained I had already sent mine over. They acted as if they had no record of it -- until they suddenly confirmed they did have it. Fifteen minutes later, they reversed again, claiming they couldn't open the files. I knew this wasn't a file issue, since every other office I'd sent the same files to had opened them without any problem. Eventually a second staff member was brought over, and after another 15 minutes, the files were opened. After more waiting, a staff member came to take me back -- straight to the X-ray machine -- and asked me to remove my earrings for a 3D scan. When I questioned it, she left, returned, and confirmed they did have my scan. I was sent back to the lobby. I was then brought to another room where staff asked me the exact same intake questions that no fewer than five different people had already asked me. It was now 2:45 PM, and I had not yet seen the doctor. They also made sure to charge me for the appointment before any services were rendered. At 2:55 PM -- nearly an hour after my appointment time -- I informed the front desk I needed to leave to pick up my child at 3:00. Only then did anyone rush to get the doctor. Dr. Evans came in at 2:57 PM, provided no information, answered none of my questions, and concluded the appointment at exactly 3:00. That was a complete waste of my time and money. The office is disorganized, the communication between staff is nonexistent, and there is zero respect for patients' time. You are the paying customer -- and they will make you wait an hour without acknowledgment or apology. I would not recommend this office to anyone.

I am overcoming my fear of the dentist thanks to Torrey Pines Dental Arts!…read more My wife has been a patient here for years and she finally convinced me to come meet the staff and schedule my first appointment. She got great care from Dr. Saade and Ayah so I booked for the following week. The receptionists were kind and informative. They made me feel good about coming back too. Dr. Terranova and Patricia made my initial appointment welcoming and gentle. They were accommodating of me. This clinic creates a safety and calm that I had not experienced at previous dentists. I came back a week later for Dr. Terranova, Rich, and Delilah to take care of a bunch of work I needed done (fillings, crown replacement, deep cleaning). Then today, I got the other side of fillings done and also Max did my deep cleaning. Dr. Terranovaa is great at talking through everything calmly. She checks in throughout and remembers you're a person in the chair, not just teeth. I really appreciated being talked through parts that might pinch, vibrate, feel pressure, etc. They're clearly a busy clinic but I never felt she was rushing or annoyed. I really think this is a great place to go especially if you have fear or uncertainty about the dentist. I also would recommend Max if you're nervous about deep cleanings. I asked them to put him as my preferred hygienist, along with Ayah since she was great with my wife. Delilah did a fine job but everyone has different preferences and I just felt better with Max's approach. He explained everything, told me when I could close my mouth. provided a diagram marked with where I can't floss for 10 days due to antibiotics, provided verbal encouragement, and was also skillful at the injections needed to prep for my fillings after the cleaning). The dentist is not cheap but I felt I got my money's worth with all the attention and time taken. Parking is easy early in the morning, although it does cost money.
