Several of the smaller units on one of the strips have closed down and construction has just started to turn this space into one large unit taken by Next which will be great as the Next we currently have resembles a broom cupboard!! MK One has closed down and with Adams reportedly in trouble, new businesses could be filling these units. hopefully sooner than later. It has craft stalls around the upper mall during certain times of the year and has a good feeling to the place.

This is in the market place part which used to be busier especially when it had an italian food outlet.There is a nice shop with curtains etc. but it is not easy to walk around and I have found some of the staff seem to find customers a nuisance.(not all of them).The stall holders in the market place put on a good display and it is a pity for them there are empty spaces.I think the addition of a toilet block would be a good move. I hope that more shops open up and this place regains its popularity, i know i used to enjoy a visit.

Home Bargains is a bit of an odd shop, sometimes there are really good bargains to be found others…read moretimes it is full of junk! When you walk in it looks like a junk sale, with everything just sat around in boxes for you to look through, there are no real display cabinets. The shop has a bit of a dingy look to it and is very dark and cold. It is always worth popping in to see what they have on offer as there is occasionaly some real bargains to be had. I think one of the best buys I've ever had were some of those wooden flowers that are normal 4 for £1 on market stalls but they were only 10 for 10p!

The second thing is the sheer range of things they sell -- every time you walk round a corner you think Oh, they sell those here too!. Having said that, despite having wandered through the store on a number of occasions I've hardly ever been tempted to actually buy anything -- somehow all the plastic kitchen gadgets and china ornaments and garden stuff and are all things I seem to be able to do without. When doing research at places I know pretty well and do go and spend time at, I thought I have to…read morewrite my review for 'House of Fraser' I can't speak for anyone else about this one, but I really love it, their have been some changes over the years to the store, some good, some not so good, but all in all, it's your typical department store where you can go, you can enjoy looking around, their is a Caffe Nero there that is very good and though out the departments, a wide range of fashion, home, furniture and food..etc.. You name it. The staff are very friendly and pleasant, always on hand to help. I myself am saving up for Xmas (coming to quick) and they have some great ideas for presents too. My advice, save up a bit, put some money aside and go and treat yourself from time to time. At 'House of Fraser' their is something there for everyone!

The mall opened in 2007 and the interior still feels modern, especially in comparison to the rest of the city. It's pretty much a straight high-street-style walk throughout the mall, with a small number of food and drink outlets upstairs including Starbucks and Nando's. The main flagship store in the mall is a large Tesco supermarket, this remains open between 6 am and 12 am between Monday and Saturday, even when the mall shuts much earlier. Between the hours of 7 pm and 12 am when the mall is closed and Tesco is open, you can expect to be allowed to enter the mall, but only for Tesco with barriers in place. Again, I do find the mall shuts a little early, while the centre remains open until 7 pm, most of the stores end up closing an hour earlier and starting to wind down even before that. With the location of Hull pretty much in the sticks, with few alternatives nearby, this makes it even more frustrating for people who prefer to go out in the afternoons and evenings. The selection of stores within the centre is OK. Brands located here include Boots, EE, JD Sports, Superdrug, TK Maxx and a couple of others. The security at the front seemed friendly, and helped offer directions elsewhere in the centre, although they could have done with being inside the mall, due to groups of children loitering, and littering, which meant the mall was untidy and I was having to watch my step to avoid getting something stuck to my shoe. Again, lots of wasted potential, and the best out of a bad bunch of places to shop while in Hull. 3*

But recently when strolling past I happened to notice that had some Christmas wrapping paper in the window. Christmas was getting closer and closer and I always panic that I haven't got enough so went in to take a closer look, in all honesty expecting some thin, 'cheap' paper, how wrong I was! the paper was Lovely, the sort of quality you would expect from a reputable store such as m&s. I ended up buying reems and reems of the stuff. They also had some lovely gift ideas, and had I not already done my xmas shopping, I would've found lots of useful bargains here. All in all.. I was quite, quite impressed!

It does vary on the day and sometimes I haven't bought anything and another day have staggered out with bags of stuff .It is ex-catalogue stuff and now and again they have a sale and sell stuff off really cheaply ,i have had trousers for 62p and skirts and tops for silly prices.I have a much admired padded jacket which I bought for £2.49.It was a size 28 and I altered it to an 18 but it was well worth the effort. They sell some furniture and household items. They get televisions dvd players and a host of other electrical stuff. They have some toys and there are some god bargains in footwear.The only problem is that you can get hooked and it is hard to resist things that you dont need when they are really cheap.
