I had two hours to kill with the kids over a half term day, so I decided to pop in to Bolwplex to see if we could get a lane. I knew the chances may be slim, but thought I'd try anyway.
When we got there, there were loads of lanes free! 'Brilliant' I thought, so I went to the main desk and asked for one game for myself and my two little ones. (five and four years old). Rather abrubptly, I was told 'No lanes until 4:15'... This was in two hours time. - I glanced at the ten or so free lanes to the left of us and exclaimed 'oh... Really?' to which again, a rather blunt 'All booked up'.
Now, I work retail, I understand that something's aren't always as obvious as they may seem, and of their systems won't allow us to bowl of the lanes are booked, even if not being played on, I won't make a fuss. - In two hour, my wife would be finished work, but my kids are now very much wanting to bowl, so I reserve a lane for 4:15, and pay upfront for all four of us. - litteraly, as soon as I paid, the disenchanted cashier claimed - "Actually, I can get you on at 3:30". So that sounded good, I'll take that instead then, just for the three of us as my wife won't be able to make it for that time. "DON'T DO REFUNDS" was the rather fierce reply.
So... Essentially, I've just been made to wait for two hours, paid for somebody I never really intended to, no longer have to wait that long, an can't get the money back which is still in her hand.
On top of this, I just ask how much kids are, as £22 for one game seems quite expensive anyway. "4 and under are free". - now I had made a point of telling her my kids ages TWICE while booking, and my youngest should have got this free... So I enquired about getting his cash back. "As I said, no refunds"
Now... It's not really what you tell somebody, it's the way you say it. This girl was blunt, rude, totally unhelpful, and completely interested at staring at her screen in front of her rather than making any kind of eye contact or offering a good service.
In the time we had to kill, I thought we'll play some of the amusements they have on offer. I give the kids some 10ps for the 10p push machine, first coin in wins four coins, I see them drop straight down the middle, but nothing comes out at all. - never mind, this one is broke. I'll move to the next one, win another couple of coins, same thing.
Nobody is able to offer any help whatsoever, - nobody really cares.
Terrible service. I expect there not to be much availabily at short notice on half time. I expect a wait, I accept that prices may be steeper over a school holiday... All I want is a bit of help when needed, and not to be so ruthless to an obviously young family, saying they can't refund games that haven't even happened yet - when I've had to pay more for a wait which wasn't even real
