Even though it was pouring rain it was still beautiful. We are glad we brought rain gear. Would visit again.

We did not have a great experience on our tour…read more The dogs were small and had a difficult time getting through the snow. There were no blankets in the sleds. Our guides were leading us on a snowmobile which ran out of fuel halfway through the tour, resulting in a very challenging return to camp. We had paid for two double occupancy sleds (one adult and one child aboard each sled) but my husband & I each had to share our sled with one guide on the way back, which added significantly more weight to the sleds. Our return to the camp was cut short due to the struggle, and we were required to take a shortcut on foot across the highway while our guides drove the sleds back the rest of the way on the trail.

It's hard to put into words at how amazing our trip was with Boreal Kennels. I searched all over…read moreCanada and the US for an experienced dogsledding outfitter that would provide a unique and custom dogsledding experience in the Canadian Mountains. We ruled out the dogsledding in Algonquin Park because it seemed too commercial and didn't have the rustic mountain setting we were looking for. Something about dogsledding the Yukon near Whitehorse seemed much more authentic and more of an experience. After narrowing our list down from 30 guides/companies we finally got the list down to 5. After evaluating all 5 companies we just had that gut feeling about Boreal Kennels that drew us to them. Something about what they had to offer seemed more authentic than the other companies and as our group of 4 would come to find out, it was exactly what we were looking for. Spending 5 days dogsledding the Yukon wilderness comes with some hesitations on safety, cold weather, not having the correct gear, etc. Our group came from San Diego where the weather never get's below 50 degrees F so knowing the temps can get down to -30 F was a bit scary. Boreal Kennels - Bert and Anthony were our guides for the trip and were spectacular. They do everything to make you comfortable, well fed, safe and having a good time. They picked us up from the airport and took care of everything until they dropped us off at the airport on our departure day. They went above and beyond what we would have expected from a guide. Safety - Bert is a wilderness expert, I remember him talking about having search and rescue experience or something similar and the moment we stepped into the wild we felt totally safe. Not one moment through the whole trip did we feel like we were in danger. Food - Not exactly sure how they were able to serve us such delicious meals, but I think I ate better than I do at home. Tent/Accommodations - One of the things we really wanted was a winter camping experience. We were blown away by the comfort of our accommodations at night. I don't want to give too much details as I think one of the exciting parts about a trip like this is the unknown. Just know that we stayed warm and were much more comfortable than we could have imagined on a trip like this. Dogs - What an incredible group of animals. I wanted to take them all home with me. It got really cold with whiteout conditions one day and even with icicles forming on their mouths they were having the time of their lives. They truly love to pull the sleds and love people too. We got to help with harnessing them and helping out when we wanted. If you don't want to help out, Bert and Anthony took care of everything. Gear - I don't even own a jacket, so was super worried about not having proper gear for this. Boreal Kennels recommended we rent the Arctic Package from Men's World in Whitehorse and it was amazingly comfortable and warm. It came with all the outer layers (Boots, Snowpants, Jacket, Hat & Gloves) designed for super freezing temperatures. They had our gear waiting at our hotel upon our arrival and everything fit perfectly and worked out great. We brought all our own underlayers (wool base layers and some mid-layers) as well as goggles (recommended), hand warmers (recommended), a balaclava (recommended) and all our normal camera's, phones, a solar charger, etc. We thought our 5 day trip was pretty crazy but we came to find out people do 14-day adventures, 30 day adventures and everything in between. They will customize the trip based on what you want to do and what you want the experience to be like. We are thankful we found these guys and the experience of a lifetime they created.

White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad - Inside my Rail Car was a nice group

Booked via Norwegian Encore for May 6, 2026, departure 12:00pm, as a solo and had the fare…read morediscounted by $50 because of my package excursion credit. The day was dry, clear, but blustery and our ship was the only cruise ship scheduled in port that day, normally 3 to 4 cruise ships are docked each morning for the day. The train accessed a rail spur allowing boarding near the ship, but the terminal in town is not a long distance if lacking mobility issues. Each car has outside viewing areas, and clean bathrooms, but unlike the staff, guests are not allowed to move between cars. If you spy an issue with your fellow rail car guests upon boarding like small screaming children I would change cars quickly after boarding. Even though water was provided with my fare I would suggest packing water jugs or bottles, and some nibbles ( I packed some yummy freshly baked cookies from a lounge on my ship) for the 3 hour ride, inexpensive snack boxes were sold on the return trip from the summit as were White Pass & Yukon Route ball caps for $15. Windows are large, but if you want the river view as you ascend the 20 mile climb to the summit then sit on the left side, when returning the right side faces the chasm. Ascending and Descending you should pass several White Pass Rail Trains so wave at your fellow tourists. Overall a nice experience for me, with great views. This is a seasonal experience that mirrors the Alaska cruise season, and it takes weeks to prepare the rail for each season.

Beautiful and Historic Ride, Worth the Experience! I have to…read moreadmit, I started this experience feeling a little stressed. We were sailing on the Star Princess and needed to be back on the ship by 4:30 PM, but our White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad train was supposed to arrive at 1:00 and didn't actually arrive until 1:25. Since it's about a three-hour ride, I was worried we might not make it back in time for sail away. Thankfully, we did make it back on time! As soon as we got on the train, though, I was able to relax and really enjoy the experience. It truly felt like stepping back in time. The narration throughout the ride was fantastic and filled with fascinating historical facts. I had no idea how many people once hiked that route or how grateful everyone was when the railroad was finally built. The scenery was absolutely beautiful and the whole experience was unforgettable. One funny note: I've flown on planes and cruised on ships without ever getting motion sickness, but somehow I ended up getting train sick! The constant back-and-forth movement got to me, even though everyone else seemed completely fine. That was just me and definitely not the railroad's fault. Overall, this was such a unique and amazing experience, and I'm really glad we did it. If you're visiting Skagway, I would absolutely recommend the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad!
