Its e-commerce site, www.archambault.ca, is the largest French-language retail site in North America. Archambault currently operates 14 stores in Quebec. This particular store is just next to the Marche Jean Talon. It is large, well lit, roomy and very well stocked with books, gifts, music etc. Archambault was founded in 1896 by Edmond Archambault, who had originally wanted to open a sheet music store. In partnership with J.A. Hurteau, a major retailer of pianos, instruments and music accessories, Mr. Archambault opened his first store on the corner of Saint Denis and Sainte Catherine Streets in Montreal. In 1919, Edmond Archambault became the store's sole owner, and in 1930, he decided to move to the corner of Berri and Sainte Catherine Streets, where he built a seven-storey building, which he dubbed the "House of the Future" and served as the home of Archambault Group's main office. I love the variety of books you can get reference, fun, children's, educational, etc. The section for games is also large and well laid out with board games, electronic ones, card ones, etc. It's just a pleasure to walk around and to get something for yourself or a friend.

I love bookstores. If I could, I would live in one. I enter one almost every day if I can…read more This Renaud Bray is huge and during Christmastime, they have some really sweet deals. I scored a 1000 piece puzzle for 4$!! The first floor is mainly kitchen stuff, stationary, CDS/DVDS, and the hottest books of the moment. The second floor is adult books. The third floor is toys and kids books. I don't read much in French, so I often skip the second floor. But the third floor is so fascinating. They have so many puzzles and new board games, I love browsing. They have a tiny section of YA books in english, it will mostly be the popular titles. I love it here. It's so cozy and inviting. I wish they had some small areas where you could sit and enjoy basking in the glory of their products, but I probably wouldn't buy anything if that was the case. It is next to a Starbucks so once you've bought something, you can go grab a coffee and start reading!

Although I hate to call it a bookstore, as it sells so much more: The main level has toys, kitchen stuff, journals and stationery and cards, school notepads and office/workspace stuff, calendars, gourmet teas and chocolates and reading/book accessories. There were some small glass plates here that I regret not getting as gifts; at $6 each, they easily liked like they cost four times at amount. And there were some funky glass cheese platters as well that I regret not buying. Dang, I'm going to have to go back..... The upper two levels are comprised of French books for sale. This is a great store. Prepare to spend time here browsing.
