There was little to no communication & our tax form was returned to us the day prior to April 15th for review. Quite literally, everything was incorrect. Our overall income was wrong, our address was wrong, and our daughter was not listed as a dependent. This almost caused us to miss out on a 2k tax break!! The lack of care that went into this was outstanding. We are a young couple who cannot afford this huge of a mistake. When we emailed back that there were mistakes found we did not hear back & had to scramble to find alternative help. Instead of a resolution we received a $675 fee due. I emailed again saying we will not be paying the fee for services, as it was all wrong, and received an email back with no effort to reconcile the situation & a "best of luck" in finding alternative help. Quite Disappointed.

I met with Gary and Sal and we came up with the fees and started the work. Did I get canceled on or have to wait in the conference room for 15 minutes at times, sure, but that's not why I'm writing this. Once the books were "scrubbed" from the other accountant, the taxes were done. After I received notice that everything was done, I received an email from Gary asking for more money, which took me by surprise since we already worked out pricing. Once I told him I wasn't agreeable to pay more (he should've just told me ahead of time things took longer than expected, although there were never any delays). From that point on it was nothing but unprofessional, rude, and disrespectful attitudes from Gary, Sal & Ana. I tried getting my QuickBooks backup file to avoid paying $800 to have the new firm bring them to date...but Capata is telling me they don't have them. I don't have my own QB software, so were the books even worked on? A chargeback for the amount they charged me for bookkeeping will be next. I speak with a lot of business owners about their frustrations with CPA firms. Do yourself a favor and move on from this nightmare company. **UPDATE** As soon as the reviews went live, we received calls from Managing Partners, Supervisors, and people I never even met at CAPATA. Within 24 hours we had access to our QuickBooks backup files, which is all we wanted in the first place. SINCE THEN, WE HAVE BEEN SLAMMED WITH NEGATIVE REVIEWS FROM CAPATA, BEEN HARRASSED DAILY TO REMOVE OUR NEGATIVE REVIEWS, ETC., If they would've spent a fraction of this time getting my QuickBooks files, we wouldn't be having these issues. What a relief !!!…read more Finally found a place to do my bookkeeping, tax returns and provide CFO support. I owe 2 restaurants, a commercial building and have other investments. My old CPA was just not getting it done. Never knowing what I owe until a few days before the deadline and having to scrabble to come up with $80k in 48 hours isn't fun.... but with CAPATA, I feel like I always know where I stand quarterly. Monthly P&Ls, quarterly meetings, tax projections.. it's just feels so good...n when business starts to slip, they alert me instantly and help me get back on track. Ya, they are a bit more $ then other places, but the quality of work shows. I sleep so much better.. and save way more money then the fees I paid. Folkers & Associates are reckless, careless, unprofessional, lazy, poor attention to detail,…read moreunethical, immoral and unaccountable for their mistakes/errors. We obtained them as our CPA for Individual with S.Corp Partnership. I would say obtained services but I did all the tax prep, data entry and better ways to max deductions, still unsure what services they provided that cost $1300.00, which I requested a copy of the invoice that I've yet to receive. They made a HUGE error on our estimated tax payments for 2022 which has resulted in us owing $30k for 2022, along with multiple accounting errors/discrepancies on the 2021 filed return. I emailed them the specific amount to use to formulate the 2022 estimated payments for distribution income. Instead, Folkers used their own report and based it off "2021 statutory requires" which only reflected 3 months worth of distributions. There is more that 3 months in a year and they didn't catch this error prior to filing and shockingly this was reviewed by 2 different associates. I'm not a CPA but since they were again having me do the tax prep that is how I found their error. I understand mistakes happen. I wanted to work on a solution, better understand how this error happened and ways to prevent future errors. I emailed them to confirm that what I found was indeed an error on their end as I provided the email I sent telling them the monthly distribution amount to use for 2022 estimated tax payment. After a couple hrs, I received a call from R.M. asking for some additional information (I didn't have access to or wasn't ready- K1) to see if there were solutions to lower the $30k owed. Our conversation started to take a turn as I was wanting to discuss how they missed this, why wasn't it questioned/evaluated/executed correctly. I only expressed concern in my tune during this conversation and explained I'm not angry, mad, I just want to understand. R.M responded "I don't think we can meet your expectations" then proceeds to tell me "the conversation is done" "I have other clients I need to get to" even after hearing that I still tried to reschedule our call for a day he is available and he absolutely refused. This validates everything I said in my opening statement. Folkers & Associates has unethically walked away using "unable to meet our expectations" as their reason and knowingly left us in the middle of tax season with a HUGE TAX DEBT we originally expressed and wanted to prevent when we hired them!

BEWARE - this tax group may have stolen our tax refund…read more We used this company to file our state and federal tax returns for tax year 2023. The problems started right away. After we approved the draft returns they sent, they filed them. Problem is, when I asked for copies of the returns they filed, the information had been changed without our permission! They increased the amount of refund we requested from roughly $10,000 to $35,000 AND CHANGED THE BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER TO A PREPAID DEBIT CARD THAT WAS SENT TO THEM. When I found out (6 months ago) I called them and they said they had been "hacked" and they would fix the problem. Well 6 months have gone by, and I haven't been able to talk to the guy who filed my tax returns despite trying to get into contact with him by calling, emailing, and texting. I still don't have either my state or federal returns, and I am now locked out of my state FTB account, and I may now face an IRS audit. Save yourself a headache, don't let them anywhere near your tax filings. This is a nightmare I can't seem to get out of, and no end is in sight.
