We enjoyed a 5 day and 4 night trip arranged by Boundary Waters Outfitters. The staff were extremely helpful as we planned our trip and helped us select a route that would be enjoyable and realistic for our group which was composed mostly of paddle trip novices. The pre trip review of gear and our route was very helpful. All the staff clearly know the area very well and had excellent tips. The gear was high quality, and the Kevlar canoes were as light as promised making the portages slightly less difficult. Some of us brought our own tents, sleeping bags and pads, but those who used the outfitters' gear were pleased. The food was standard dehydrated camping fare for the most part, but tastes good when you're tired and hungry. There are options for fresh food for the first dinner and breakfast. Pick up was at the time and place promised! I'd definitely use them again for a future trip. read more

We had a great trip, The equipment was very good, the lodge was no frills, and our guide Steve Eisenmenger and his dog were fantastic. I would recommend packing light and opting for the lighter canoes - a little extra weight makes a big difference when portaging. Thanks for everything! read more

We just got back from a 5 day 6 night boundary Waters trip. We got the family package which was very reasonable compared to other outfitters in the area. Everyone was very nice and took care of us well. There were a few down sides, and they were that our tent had a broken zipper and was a pain all week, one sleeping bag had a hole and another looked like the outer bag had been separated from the inner and we just had the inner. One of our sleeping pads was like 3/4 length. We also had a communication problem about the food choices. We thought we had chosen all free dried but when we got there they'd packed us some fresh, and we didn't want to bother to switch it out at that point. read more

The trip itself was pretty amazing. The experience with the outfitters was a different story. After our 5 day trip we got to the canoe landing where the outfitter was supposed to pick us up. After they didn't show up for an hour and we couldn't call them due to lack of cell service, we walked 2 miles to the closest house to use someone's phone. When we called them, they didn't apologize for the mix up, but proceeded to try and put the blame on us saying we should've called them sooner, even though it was their responsibility to pick us up without us having to call. When we got back to the outfitter, they billed us an extensive amount for a ding on a canoe which happened while they were driving us to the drop off point when we got caught in a massive hail storm which even damaged a windshield. Hospitality was great, but their lack of responsibility was astonishing. read more
