Giants Ridge Golf & Ski Resort

Best boarding and skiing in northern Minnesota hands-down. Jeff is the man he took care of my board…read morewaxed it polished it, and I've went the fastest I've ever gone in my life. Couldn't leave a better review. You should go to giant Ridge seriously.

We stayed in the resort over several days. Our room was nice. It was decorated with a cabin theme,…read morelots of log furniture, pine and birch tree wall art, and a few moose decor items. Everything was clean. The room came with a fully stocked kitchenette which is nice if you want to do some cooking but we ate out. No stove but there is a hot plate, dishwasher and refrigerator. It's nice to have a couch and TV separate from the bedroom. We golfed at The Legend and The Quarry. They were beautiful courses Fairways and greens were well maintained. Legend was a little less than 5100 from the forward tees which was very fair. Quarry was closer to 5200, so longer and much more narrow. Don't forget to look for the giant bear claw on The Legend. Lots of driving between some holes but enjoy the scenery while you are cruising. Great courses. I struggled to rate this. I loved the golf but the accommodations had some pros and cons. Lodging pros - separate bedroom and living area - kitchenette - close to everything we wanted to do - Two TVs Lodging cons - the shower water never got really hot to that end the jacuzzi in the room was never used because we couldn't get it hot enough to want to sit in it - separate rooms are nice but controlling the temp was hard as air conditioning was in bedroom but thermostat was in living room. There are fans to help but in the end the bedroom was usually very cold - the TV in the bedroom was hit or miss on displaying channels. - WiFi was hit or miss. - rooms are owned by individuals so it's like renting a vrbo. To that end, no housekeeping. Not sure if you could request it. We didn't stay long enough for it to be a major issue.

Lutsen Mountains - February 2025

Great Midwest resort. If you are used to skiing small hills in the Midwest, this resort gives you…read morea break from that small hill feel. We skied three days. As a person who skis out west every year, I was leery in booking three days at a Midwest resort. But the weather, snow conditions, and mountain conditions were all great. We were there over Feb 13-15. One of the rare warm ups of February. We skied in three days of bluebird sun. Absolutely fabulous. It was 40 degrees one of the days and the mountain held up fine. The grooming also was good on days two and three. The amount of back country they have is fine, but you need a good 2 feet or more to truly enjoy it. But, that wasn't this trip. Three complaints. Ticket office, lift lines, and food service. The ticket office was slow. On a Friday morning of a holiday weekend, they only put two people in the office and not everyone can do everything. So you can't approach a window with a flex pass, because that goes to a different window and so forth. Poor design. Plus once you are at the ticket office, the process to get you all set was also slow. There was one redeeming light, Friday afternoon, I was served by an efficient young woman who greeted me with a smile, was quick to get me what I needed an got me on my way under 2 minutes at the window. That's how its got to be across the board. They had a bunch of windows, but no manpower. Lift lines were an oozing mess of people. In typical midwestern ignorance, everyone simply kept funneling into the lift area with no direction or idea of what they are doing. Forming groups of six was a challenge for most groups on our trip. This slowed capacity significantly on a busy day. Caribou Express had a line of 30 plus on both sides. Its not difficult to sort this all out. But, singles never paired up with groups until they simply saw a spot open up in front of them. It was silly. The majority of these folks would be yelled at incessantly out west. Only once on Saturday was there a lifty sorting out the mass hysteria in the lift line. He was needed both Saturday and Sunday. The food service on Moose Mountain was poorly designed. There is a bar, but the only canned items you can get are seltzers. To increase efficiency, get rid of the bar and replace with a walk through area where those of age can grab a can of whatever they'd like and purchase it. Overall, I would go again. The views were spectacular. The skiing was great. Just a few annoyances.

Went on a lovely trip with my boyfriend and friends! The rental situation was very disorganized,…read morebut luckily aside from that this trip was awesome! I recommend going to Charlie's on the resort and to checkout the live music on late nights. The hot tub was great after hours of snowboarding too. So much fun we might make this trip annually! The slopes were way more difficult than I had expected, but they had runs for everyone no matter the experience. My friend is a beginner, I am average, and the two guys are great snowboarders. Lutsen is awesome!

I have stayed at the Lodge 3 years in a row now with my family for a weekend fall color getaway…read more This year's trip was by far the worst. We stayed there the first weekend of October. I paid 300 a night for a hillside view room. When I checked in I was told all the rooms in the lodge are independently owned, like condos. Thought it was weird but no biggie. Got to the room and it was toward the end of the building with hardly a hillside view. I went to the front desk and asked to change rooms. I was told none of the rooms really had a hillside view and was told they were booked up. Ok fine. Went back to the room and it was in rough shape, big chip on toilet seat, dings and scratches all over the walls, mismatched paint on the walls where they tried to cover it up, and the room was roasting despite it being the first weekend of October. The thermostat on the wall did not work, but there was a note next to it saying to use the heating/cooling unit in the bedroom to control the room temp. Only problem is that cools the bedroom but not the rest of the place. Our whole stay my daughter slept on the pull out futon in the living room with a fan on her while I was freezing in the bedroom. The last straw and the main reason I am writing this review is that my wife, daughter and I hiked up the hillside. When we got almost to the top my daughter started feeling dizzy, weak and nauseous. She has a medical history of having low blood pressure. My wife took her to get a ride down to the bottom of the hill on the chairlift due to her medical issues and was not only dismissed by the girl working, she was basically called a liar and a scammer just trying to get a free ride. My daughter felt so bad and cried, all while having a medical issue. My wife and daughter were turned away by the lady working. A male co worker of the lady witnesses the interaction and apologized. He then gave them a ride to the bottom of the hill on a utility vehicle. I emailed the lodge about what happened, looking for them to address the indicent with the Terrible female employee but have not received a response for almost 2 weeks now. I am writing this review so that others are aware of our experience with this Family Friendly" resort.

Stayed here on Sunday (got the last room available) to get rested up for skiing at Lutsen the next…read moreday (what a disappointment Lutsen Ski was) and it is such a cozy place, both inside the reception area, and in the motel room. The wind was blowing outside heavily (up to 40 mph winds I believe) and it made for a great experience, as you could hear the waves (which were just 100 feet away down the hill) and howling winds, but it was contrasted perfectly with the warm hotel room. Perfect sleeping weather as the combo created a God like white noise. Comfortable beds, clean, comfortable sheets and linens, even a refrigerator and two burner stove, all for about $120, not to mention the best part (the above descrbed ambiance)..a really fair deal! Front desk folks were really nice too. In the future, whenever I go to Lutsen, I'll definitely be staying at Solbakken.

When reviewing a hotel, for me, the main question is always: Would you stay there again? And the…read moreanswer is yes, in a heartbeat! My 3 priorities were all there: price, convenience, and cleanliness. The pros: ~The price: My group got a package through the lutsen website. The price for 2 nights of lodging and 2 days of lift tickets was ridiculously cheap. This is the main reason I liked this place so much. ~The location: We went to ski, and it was extremely convenient to Lutsen ski area. It was also right on Lake Superior so were able to get some very beautiful scenic shots by the lake. ~It was clean. ~Easy check in and out....Minimal interaction....I barely saw the people who run the place. But I prefer it like that. Cons: ~Walls in the motel were pretty thin. So if you're looking for some privacy, try one of cabins (and they're closer to the lake) ~Water pressure was a little low. It was only really low in one of our rooms so I think that's fixable.
