Carol Boulware is an irresponsible, incompetent, and I would even say dangerous, therapist. She tried to advise my partner and I with relationship difficulties, and without knowing the facts took his side. She had us privately write to her about our grievances with one another, which set up an atmosphere of mistrust. Her reaction to the tears that flooded out of me in the sessions was rejection, impatience, and the statement, "maybe you should go on medication." She tricked me into feeling safe by at first explaining to him that tears are okay, then later coldly rejected me on the basis of those tears. She was disgusted with my lack of control, and rewarded him for his control, setting up an environment in which it was unsafe to experience or express emotions. She had us enact new-agey scenarios in which we expressed love for each other, as if that was a suitable replacement for the feelings themselves. Hearing him repeat her loving words to me is what made me cry, as it seemed a a cruel joke to hear them when they were only part of an exercise. Her response to my sadness at lack of intimacy with my partner, and my protestations that it was not an anger issue but an intimacy issue, was, "are you saying you just want to get f****d?" After 4 sessions she basically dropped us, and soon after my partner dropped me (after a relationship of many years) saying "I knew after I saw the look in her eyes, the way she looked at you, that something was wrong." We are now happily back together, but the damage she caused has had lasting effects. I did not realize, going into a therapy session, that not all therapists are wise and kind and know how to express compassion for others in pain. I was expecting to go to a place where it was safe to cry and be sad. Beware her contempt disguised as compassion, and beware her willingness to prescribe medication for such disruptive behavior as emotions and tears. She behaved exactly like my abusive parents, playing favorites, rejecting and ridiculing me for expressing my feelings, and letting me know that because of that transgression she would have nothing to do with me. read more
