I visited this pâtisserie on Nov 9 2024 as my final breakfast before flying home to NYC. The…read morepastries were delicious - including tart aux pommes, a cheese pastry, and a raspberry eclair. All these were delicious - and they heated up the cheese pastry for me, which was a perfect more savory but very slightly sweet start to this decadent meal. I do my best to order and communicate in French, and I appreciated that the lady helping me spoke back to me in French as well, and was patient with my poor language skills. I was extremely surprised and very appreciative that she actually gifted me an extra slice of tart aux pommes!! I didn't expect that and I felt very welcomed by such a exchange. I ended bringing that slice all the way home to NYC with me where I shared it with my partner. He usually doesn't like sweets like this, but said this one was a really good balance of sweet and tart. Merci beaucoup, mes amis de La Vieille France ! Vos pâtisseries ont été dégustées outre-mer.

Du Pain et des Idees was listed as one of the popular spots to get a croissant, so I made sure we…read morehad it on our itinerary. We came near 9am on a Monday and there was a very short line. It did get longer as we ate our pastries closer to 9:30am. The pastries are all displayed out, with nothing really covering them. There were a TON of bees swarming the bakery and the baked goods, which was a little unsettling. We got one croissant and one escargot praline. The croissant looked very unique, not like your typical croissant cone shape. It was the first of our many croissants so I used this as a baseline. Definitely buttery but a bit too crispy for me. I like some flakiness but also some soft interior for my croissants. The escargot praline was good but tasted a bit old in my opinion. After our trip ended, there were other spots I definitely would rank higher than Du Pain et des Idees, and would rather go to those if I ever visited Paris again.

We went in pretty much every morning we were staying in Paris and in my terrible French, I would order an almond croissant, a regular croissant, and two coffees. The woman who was working there was very kind and I think she appreciated my attempts to speak French (or she just felt bad for me). The croissants were so buttery, flaky, and everything a croissant should be. Out of all of the croissants I ate while we were traveling, this almond croissant had the most flavor. The prices were fair and the portion sizes were massive. I know there are a ton of bakeries in Paris but if you happen to find yourself a little outside of the city center and wanting to support a small local business, come check out Au Pain Doré.
