The massages we got were also wonderful. Food- 5/5 all of the food was delicious and freshly made. The morning baked goods were my favorite. Room-4/5 the Bali Hai room was comfortable and pretty quiet. The only thing we noticed was a musty mildew smell in the room. Maybe from the air conditioner? Property- 5/5- views are amazing. They have a heated pool, hot tub, sauna, and fire pit as well. Overall we had a lovely time and would return again. It's an easy one hour drive from KC. It would also be fun to rent the entire property for a family reunion or weekend with friends.

There is a working microwave and fridge. On two cross-country trips, I've stayed at many one-story motels where you park outside your room -- and that's just what I like! On balance, this was about five or ten dollars a night more (about $70 with tax) than comparable places and somewhat below average, but good enough It's a good night sleep: comfortable bed, quiet, fresh-feeling sheets.

Our ceremony was at 2pm, we were in the truck at 2:35pm. Guests are supposed to receive 1 HOUR at the chapel per the website. We were also pushed off the property while trying to take pictures of our big day. Granted, I misread the website that bringing a photographer (professional or not) would cost an additional $100, and I fully admit that. However when I booked and paid for the chapel I had asked Betty if it was ok that we took some pictures at the location, she agreed that was fine. We snapped a few shots before the wedding, during the ceremony, and attempted to take family pictures afterwards when we were shunned off the property by I assume to be Larry. Never once was explained there was an additional charge for bringing our own camera, nor offered to pay the $100 so we were able to get the pictures we wanted. He was also very, very rude about us getting off the property. I do not have one single picture of my husband and I on our wedding day. I've emailed them explaining my experience, in hopes to change the experience for future guests. However I have yet to get a response from anyone.

We stayed at The Courtland Hotel & Spa in Fort Scott, KS on February 14th, 2026, and from the moment we walked in, Frank made us feel like guests -- not just customers. He greeted us personally and gave us what he called the "nickel tour," walking us through the property and sharing its story. That personal touch set the tone for the entire visit. We stayed in Room 15 (King bed), and the extra space made the stay especially comfortable for the two of us. Clean, cozy, and perfect for a one-night getaway. We didn't get to experience the spa or additional amenities this time, but if the hospitality is any indication, we'd happily return. If you're in Fort Scott and want something with character and genuine service, this is a great choice.

I called the number on the listing and spoke with the owner Gita, a very pleasant woman, who unfortunately is not aware of Yelp. I told he that I will make sure that people are aware that she is still open for business and hopefully get her rating back on track. After speaking with her, I realized that my stay in Kansas is going to be a good one. Look forward to staying there soon and for many years after.
