The car was so packed that my rear visibility was... let's just call it "faith-based." Every lane change became a strategic operation, so I drove slower than usual and gave everyone plenty of space until we made it safely to Sunset Recycling. Mission accomplished. Then came the part I underestimated. I looked at the mountain of bags, realized I'd have to separate and empty everything, and my motivation disappeared instantly. At that moment, I noticed another recycler nearby who had a relaxed, friendly vibe. I asked if he wanted the bags, and he gladly accepted them. He got the redemption value, I got my afternoon back, and nothing went to waste. That's a win-win in my book. The staff kept things moving, the process was straightforward, and it's nice knowing there's a place that helps keep all those bottles and cans out of the landfill. My mom deserves the recycling money but didn't get. I earned a lesson in how much work recycling can actually be.

I wanted to express my gratitude to Rebecca for her exceptional service during a challenging…read moresituation over the weekend. My daughter had a birthday party, and we mistakenly placed all her gifts in a large black trash bag. Unfortunately, we mistakenly gave these bags to the garbage man, believing they were all trash. Upon returning home, we realized we couldn't find the gifts. I explained the situation to Rebecca and eventually she was able to locate the driver, who confirmed that the gifts were all crushed. This was devastating news to hear. The next morning, one of my friends messaged me, saying that Rebecca from Recology had reached out to her and wanted to get in touch with me. One of the packages had my friend's name and address on it. Rebecca was able to track and locate her on social media. After getting in touch with Rebecca, she was able to locate and retrieve the gifts. We drove over and were able to pick them up. Unfortunately, a few of the gifts were crushed, but they were still intact and in good condition. Rebecca went above and beyond to help us. She informed the driver to come back and went through the truck herself to check if the gifts were still there. All of the gifts were accounted for and she went through each and every bag to make sure nothing was missing. Her dedication and effort truly made a difference. I can't thank her enough for her exceptional service and for saving the day. I wanted to make sure she received the recognition she deserved. Thank you so much for everything!

Global Material Recycling (used to be very reputable) came under new management earlier this year -…read moreI believe, Republic Services - and seem to be making the rules as they go along. First, they no longer accept alcohol containers because they do not specifically state CA crv. [Stores do not want them either! So only option is to give to local sanitation company, forfeiting paid crv.] Now, they do not want the plastic tops to beverage containers. Of course, that is where the weight lies. Front office reaffirmed that if they come with, they'd accept, but could simply be tossed. What!?! I thought the purpose of recycling was to provide relief to landfills (and environment) as well as recirculate the material. So, what did they do with the tops that they confiscated from customers? Hmmm!

I have been going to the El Cerrito Recycling Center since 1998. This place has gone through a lot of changes especially the parking spaces (yes I will continuing mention that). On top of that you may be able to find something you'd like too, like a good book to read. The last star is missing for two reasons. The center is located in a dead end location. That works in the sense of it not being a potential eyesore or traffic mess if located on a main street. But it doesn't quite work so well being there is only one way in and one way out; sometimes you can find yourself waiting a bit to do something. And the other reason is it is kinda small for all that it offers. Traffic flow can be challenging. But that's only one star split among two or more reasons. Instead focus on the other four stars that I'm dropping here

Recycling center that collects cans, bottles, and various plastics…read more I came in on 07/29/2026. See photo I uploaded for the price per pounds reference. If you've been to a recycling place where they weigh your recyclables, you park/walk up, place your items in the trash cans, they place your items on a scale, and then give you paper to cash in the office. They took over from what appears to be an old gas station. It's a recycling center so floor can be sticky. You grabbing old trash cans so wear gloves and closed toe shoes for some type of protection. Generally pretty fast. I'll make sure to go to this place whenever I need to send recyclables.
