The building itself is beautiful and elegantly decorated. We were greeted by Nina, a svelte blonde who showed us two room options and let me choose based on the size and view. She was nothing but polite and friendly and she greeted us and remembered us each day to ask us how we were doing. That really made an impression on me. Our room was large and beautiful and comfortable with large open windows and a beautiful soaking tub in the room and glass shower. The bed was also very comfortable and amenities in the room such as television and creature comforts were all taken care of. No complaints at all. My only gripe would be the included breakfast which was mostly cold-cuts and cheese unless you ordered from the menu and had the kitchen prepare it. I ordered an omelette with a lot of veggies and it came out wrong twice and took them over 20-minutes to cook the second time. So overall I waited something like 40 minutes for an omelette. They were avoiding me and started not coming to the table as I of course, got angry and upset. They were pretty unapologetic about it in general and it just really pissed me off.

I didn't get a chance to have dinner in the Michelin Star restaurant for dinner but their morning breakfast buffet was amazing. So many options and it's included in the room price. A must try is the bar located on the first door that looks out into Zoo Berlin. If your looking for a quiet, clean and comfortable room you must try Dos Stue. Uber and taxis all come to and drop off at this hotel.

My room was new, modern and clean with a nice view across the Tiergarten and Fernsehturm in the distance. It had everything I needed. My friends were on the top floor with a balcony facing into the Tiergarten and view of the Victory Column. The location is a very nice area with many Embassies in the immediate area. In addition to being steps away from the park, Cafe am Neuer See was a 5 minute walk and one of the nicest beer gardens you can find anywhere in Germany. One of the main reasons I gave the hotel a 5 star rating was the level of service of the staff at Pestana. With only a few exceptions, they were all top performers. The desk staff was always professional and helpful and the restaurant & bar staff was very good. Their breakfast is very good and we had other meals which we were very impressed with in both quality and taste. It was still Spargelzeit (Asparagus Season) and they had a nice special menu for the period. I ate a number of meals here and it was all good. The bar and lounge was also nice and included outdoor patio seating. They had one TV and were featuring World Cup games. It was never packed but they did have a bit of a crowd. I am sure it would have been different if Germany. The location is also good for transportation options. You have the 100 & 200 buses that run nearby and will take you to the main parts of the city quickly. It is also only a 10 minute walk to the Kurfursten shopping district and Zoo. The Zoo train station is served by a number of U & S-bahn lines as well as a number of buses. The only major negative I experienced during the visit was the pool was closed the entire time. There was some problem that wasn't easily fixed? This was unfortunate as it was a very hot period and would have been a nice part of my visit. However they also had a sauna and steam room along with a very respectable work out room. I was really too busy doing other things to take full advantage but these facilities should serve most people's comfort and needs. I love the city of Berlin and do plan on visiting again. I will definitely look into staying at the Pestana again as my stay was that enjoyable. Therefore, I would highly recommend this hotel and hope your own stay is as enjoyable as mine.

It's a 5 star hotel with well appointed rooms but location is kind of inconvenient in terms of public transit access. You're either walking quite a bit to get to the Metro or taking buses or simply taking a cab. We stayed in a suite during our stay and the suite rooms have a dedicated elevator. Our room was spacious, had nice views of the park, a gorgeous bathroom, and comfortable bedding. The hotel lounge was also very nice and breakfast and cocktail hour was lovely. I'd certainly stay here again.

If you're accustomed to the polished glam of JW Marriotts in the U.S., temper your expectations; this feels more like a Marriott that got promoted but kept its old wardrobe. The Staff Front desk? A+! Friendly, knowledgeable, and everything you'd hope for in a luxury hotel. They make the first impression a great one, even if the decor tries its best to pull you back into the past. The Rooms Spacious (especially for Europe) and well-equipped, with comfy beds, fluffy towels, and a coffee setup that checks the boxes. That said, the rooms share the hotel's flair for the nostalgic. Mine had a charming "lived-in" vibe, complete with bathroom wear and tear. On the plus side: the water pressure in the shower? Chef's kiss. Location The location is a bit of a mixed bag. It's close-ish to the Mall of Berlin and LEGOLAND (a 15-minute walk), but major sights like Museum Island or Checkpoint Charlie require some commitment--or a ride. Luckily, taxis and Ubers abound, so you're not stranded in this luxurious blast from the past. Overall The JW Marriott Berlin offers a decent stay with wonderful staff and a shower that'll make you forgive a lot. Just don't expect the kind of refinement the JW name might suggest back home. It's more "retro flair" than "timeless luxury."
