If you're accustomed to the polished glam of JW Marriotts in the U.S., temper your expectations; this feels more like a Marriott that got promoted but kept its old wardrobe.
The Staff
Front desk? A+! Friendly, knowledgeable, and everything you'd hope for in a luxury hotel. They make the first impression a great one, even if the decor tries its best to pull you back into the past.
The Rooms
Spacious (especially for Europe) and well-equipped, with comfy beds, fluffy towels, and a coffee setup that checks the boxes. That said, the rooms share the hotel's flair for the nostalgic. Mine had a charming "lived-in" vibe, complete with bathroom wear and tear. On the plus side: the water pressure in the shower? Chef's kiss.
Location
The location is a bit of a mixed bag. It's close-ish to the Mall of Berlin and LEGOLAND (a 15-minute walk), but major sights like Museum Island or Checkpoint Charlie require some commitment--or a ride. Luckily, taxis and Ubers abound, so you're not stranded in this luxurious blast from the past.
Overall
The JW Marriott Berlin offers a decent stay with wonderful staff and a shower that'll make you forgive a lot. Just don't expect the kind of refinement the JW name might suggest back home. It's more "retro flair" than "timeless luxury."
