North Star Family K9 - Learning to settle

North Star Family K9

I cannot recommend Northstar Family K9 enough!…read more Doug came to me as a foster, and from the very beginning, I knew he was going to need some extra help. He had already been returned twice before coming into rescue, and the thought of putting him up for adoption and having him experience another return honestly terrified me. Doug was an anxious puppy who lacked confidence, struggled with severe separation anxiety, and was incredibly leash reactive. And when I say reactive, I mean he would lunge up and down like a tiger and was nearly impossible to calm down. As his foster, I became very attached to him. I wanted him to find his forever home, but I was so nervous about adopting him out and having him returned again. He deserved stability, and I couldn't bear the thought of him going through another failed placement. That's when we decided Doug needed more support, and he spent 4 weeks at Northstar Family K9 for their board-and-train program. I'll be completely honest sending him away was HARD. But the team at Northstar made the entire experience so much easier. Milo, Julia, Emma, and Hank made it feel like Doug was at a second home. The daily report cards and videos were amazing. I never felt completely disconnected from him. I could see his progress, know how he was doing, and feel like I was still a part of his journey even while he was away. We also got to go in for training sessions, which I absolutely loved because they weren't just training Doug they were teaching us how to continue working with him when he came home. And the transformation has been incredible. Doug is a completely different dog. He has confidence. He's calmer. He has tools to work through situations that previously overwhelmed him. And most importantly, I now feel confident sending him to his forever home. As a foster, that is everything to me. I don't want to just find a dog a home. I want to feel confident that the home is going to be their forever home especially for a dog who has already experienced the heartbreak of being returned twice. Thanks to Northstar, Doug is now getting adopted, and for the first time, I can let him go to his forever family without that same fear in the back of my mind that he'll be returned again. Northstar didn't just train Doug. They gave him confidence, gave him tools, and gave me confidence in his future. I truly cannot recommend Northstar Family K9 enough. If you have a dog struggling with anxiety, confidence, reactivity, or behavioral challenges, I would absolutely encourage you to talk to them. Thank you to Milo, Julia, Emma, Hank, and the entire Northstar team for loving our boy, believing in him, and helping set him up for success.

This is the best training facility! Their detailed daily updates, including videos, pictures, and…read morereports, are invaluable, especially seeing the continued progress! It's truly comforting to know your dog is being loved and cared for, particularly when you're missing them. We saw an immediate difference when our dog came home and even our friends noticed it too!

Our pup loves wags n woofs!…read more We have done puppy training here, and after doing it he was perfectly on his way to being a well socialized dog. We have also done both daycare and grooming. Daycare was well priced and he was pooped by the end of it. You can also keep an eye on your dog via their cameras. Grooming was also in line with competitors pricing and we received a floofy good smelling dog.

I really appreciate that this is a family-owned small business and not a large chain like a number of the other local doggy daycare/boarding facilities. They get to know all of the pups super well. They are really "blossomed" the past year and a half in terms of offering tons of fun theme days where you can get photos of your dog dressed up and participating in activities (bunny ear photos and Easter egg hunt for Easter!) They also post fun updates to social media and have tons of cameras so you can check in on your pup throughout the day if you choose. They have helped me out soooo many times including when I have been running late for the pick-up or reaching out for a late reservation or an add-on service. The ability to be able to have Nora get groomed, nails clipped, and her anal glands expressed all during a regular day at daycare is amazing and so convenient. When we moved just over a year ago, we literally made sure to keep in mind the distance between us and Wag 'n Woofs because bringing her elsewhere was not an option. Thanks so much for all your team does!

Soon after adopting our wonderful rescue dog Maggie, my wife and I quickly realized that we were…read moregoing to need help with some of her behavioral issues. We contacted Bark Busters to help with leash pulling, aggression towards other dogs, and some really tough separation anxiety issues. On the first visit Lynne showed us some techniques on how to properly communicate our expectations to Maggie and help correct some of her terrible leash behavior. We very pleased to see results in that first visit, and by being consistent with what we learned, walking started to become enjoyable instead of frustrating. In follow up visits Lynne came up with some really creative ways to help us combat and solve the aggression and separation anxiety issues. One thing we really liked about Bark Busters is that it isn't class training. The trainers come to you and interact with the dog in it's own environment which we found to be really helpful. The lifetime guarantee has been beneficial as we still communicate with Lynne about progress/advice and have had follow up visits to help with other issues. I would definitely recommend Lynne and Bark Busters again.

They took the time to really listen to our concerns and made sure we felt confident implementing the training techniques at home. What truly stood out was their character -- patient, kind, and genuinely invested in Ruby's success. You can tell they truly care about both the dogs and the families they work with. We saw such positive changes in Ruby, and we feel so much more confident as dog owners because of their guidance. We're so grateful for their support and would absolutely recommend Bark Busters to anyone looking for professional, effective, and compassionate dog training!
