So this museum grew on me. I first found it quite boring but then realized it had hidden gems among…read morethe collection. So one of the reasons for coming to this museum at all, was that it was gratis with the Düsseldorf card.
It's a massive collection over three floors and also fairly eclectic. You start downstairs, were the lockers and loos are and also there is a part of the city wall and then a modern day graffiti type sketch. Another whimsical thing to note was the banana graffiti at the entrance.
I think the Curators have done a good job, but definitely for me the highlights were the Paleolithic and Early German (Frankish) jewelry collection as well as the 17th century books, ivory anatomy models and the gorgeous clothes from the 18th century.
I wanted to check out some other museums, so only saw the 1st floor (have to leave something for next time). Overall, very glad that I came to check this one out, even tho' it wasn't my fave among the 4 museums I was able to visit over my Düsseldorf weekend visit.
