Every time I walk in EP, it's the aroma that always make me happy and relaxes my soul. There's this…read moreamalgamation of varying body oils, incense and soaps that truly permeate the air and this fragrant heady aroma that is absolutely intoxicating. My mission: to get raw Shea butter bc everywhere I've gone has refined Shea and I want the vitamins & nutrients raw Shea gives. EP is such a place to get authentic and organic products w/o all the bells & whistles of pretty packaging. It's just really good stuff!! When I tell you no one there gives a crap, believe it. This place has been around 40+ years!!! And u can tell. There is and always has been a type of air that is given off by the employees when you enter. It's as if, 'you should know what's in here and what it's for and how to use it already... and if you don't... ah well'. I get and can't appreciate the hands off approach. I hate nothing more than a pushy salesperson. That's not what's happening in here. It's more of an indifference to anything. This go around, as has always happened here, I had a few questions. The employees seem out off by having to stop looking in their phones to actually answer a question. So after the eye roll and the sigh, I ask... and as is always the case, the question is replied to with complete indifference ['If you want it, get it. If you don't... cool... but put it back where u got it. I ain't movin']. That's always been my 'turn off' w/ this place since I started going in the 90s. Sadly, EP has been one of the only stalwarts that has stood the test of time in the area. Granted, they have good genuine products in stock. Fantastic body oils, tinctures, lotions, soaps, incense, teas, fabrics, art, sculptures a literal library of wonderful Afro centric literature, etc... it's all there. And if it isn't, they can prob get it for you. But it's the 'indifference' for me. I'm sure it works for them bc they've been the same way for 20+ years. While the price points may be a lil higher than expected, taking into account that they are a specialty shop catering to a a specific need/ demographic, the pricing is definitely justified - especially in this market w/ so many businesses closing. I do hope EP stays around for a long time to come. I just wish the employees gave just an iota about what they're selling in the shop (lower level).

I am a moleskin girl myself; but I recently purchased a Leuchtturm here in a beautiful sage green color (please note they carry MANY shades and different types!! (lined, blank, dotted!!)). Words cannot describe how excited I am when I stop by this store to see if they have any new items in stock. They also sell beautiful planners, pens, markers, post it notes, etc. While it is a smaller shop, I think it is very well organized and laid out and I think the owner is really strategic about what they carry because I've always left feeling like nothing was lacking in my experience. Free street parking is available on nearby streets and this shop is right by several bus stations so it's easy to get to. There is a single step to enter the store if you have concerns regarding accessibility. I don't think they're active on Yelp, but they are active on Instagram where they post when the shop is having events like journaling club!! and stationary events. I also just have to add that I had a lovely conversation with the owner about journaling and travel and after mentioning a trip I was planning to go on to London, she actually gave me a stationary shop recommendation there as well.

I placed an order for purple tile and was sent a pale green tile. I sent a polite inquiry that it seemed I had been sent the wrong product. They asked me to send a photo of what I received, so I did. At this point, Kathy told me I "must be color blind", they don't even sell a light green tile like in the photo I sent (although she went on to describe said tile so she was obviously familiar with the light green tile). Kathy was very rude and I asked if they didn't sell me this green tile, then who put it in the box and shipped it to me? Either way it wasn't the purple tile I had ordered. I gave them 3 options for resolving the issue. Replace with correct product, refund, or replace with another purple tile similar to what I had ordered. Kathy responded that since I did not want to resolve this issue (!?) she was just going to refund my money. Below is the purple tile on their website that I ordered, and the pale green tile I received. So no, I'm not color blind.

It's the kind of place you definitely need time to sort through piece by piece to find some treasures. The owner can be a little much, as others have noted on here, but that's the kind of zany personality I suppose you can expect from a vintage shop owner. She seems to want to be helpful to her customers and points out all the deals and special items - although I could see how this might come across as overbearing. She helped me find a cameo necklace after I inquired, which I ultimately passed on, but I appreciated that she took the time to show it to me. The signage for some of the deals is a little unclear. I overheard a customer pick up rings from the "buy four get one free" section and then be told that those rings weren't part of the sale... definitely very confusing. After several minutes of sorting through, I managed to find a pendant, a necklace, and two rings that I absolutely adore. The total was just under $15 which was a steal considering, upon further inspection, one of the rings ended up being 14k gold. I'll return!
