Very friendly staff, lovely bread. The pasties are mostly pastry though with not much filling! The best place to buy bread in Waterbeach.

I needed a special loaf for the Harvest Service at 'The Little Chapel in The Fen.' You can't miss the green sign and striped uniforms. There are a wide range of breads, sweet and savoury pastries (cakes, sausage rolls, etc.) but also a large variety of filled baguette and sandwich rolls. This particular shop underwent a renovation recently which has allowed for an even bigger selection of items, but come early to avoid disappointment. I personally am a fan of their jam doughnuts and tend to pick up a packet of 4 every now and then. The bacon and egg salad is a fine choice for breakfast on the go and the ham and salad roll a good pick for lunch. While the prices are slightly higher than your grocery store bakery, everything I've tried tastes as if they've just come out of the kitchen/oven!

We got the wheatfree cake, an americanto and a latte and sat on one of the tables in the backyard. Service was friendly, coffee was very good and the pastry was very fresh, not too sweet, and with yummy, melts-in-your-mouth cream. I wish i had a photo of the place: the backyard is not too large. It ends in a wooden hedge on one side and a mossy brick wall on another. The far end overlooks a few large trees. There are a few simple bistro sets in red, each with a ceramic teapot center piece, used as a flower pot :) Peaceful, quiet, beautiful ambient and a tasty pastry and coffee. I purchased a raspberry pastry, a strawberry tart and a brownie as most others would be a bit messier for a picnic. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. The strawberry tart seemed to use custard as opposed to my preferred creme patissiere but was excellent nonetheless. We will be back to give Tom's cake a better try.
