So much better than the average PC's at every other library) - Printers that state of the art, and double-side paper! - Never crowded - Cool coupon bin "take a coupon, leave a coupon" - Organized and clean library - Decent variety of DVD's - Decent variety of books, that doesn't make it impossible to find something - For a branch, more than generous hours: Mon, Wed, Thur, Fri and Sat 10-5 and Tuesday 1-9. - Friendly, helpful staff, who are always around and always friendly! (especially Lisa and Pam) - Great atmosphere for the community. I see a lot of the same people, and especially in the senior community, this place gives seniors a great place to go on a regular basis. Love the frequency of the same people who use this place. Cons: Literally NONE. This is a great find in Dedham for anyone in the area to enjoy. Normally I don't say to go out of your way to go somewhere, but I prefer this over my local library by 1000% (the Westwood Library is so bad!). I'm writing this review hoping a staff member will see it and take action to improve the customer…read moresatisfaction. The place is great (really close to my house and for that I'm grateful). Clean tables and floors, nice staff. However, every time I go into the library to study I end up really annoyed by 2 things: 1. There are very few ( I think only 1) electrical outlets near the tables. This makes no sense because most people nowadays study with laptops and carry their chargers around. So many times I have been forced to either leave or wait for the one table that is next to the plug to be emptied, so I can go ahead and connect my charger. It would be nice if they can add more outlets. 2. The most annoying thing however, is to study in this library after 3pm on weekdays. The reason is that mothers or nannies come with the little kids that have just gotten out of school, apparently to spend time. The kids start running, screaming at the top of their lungs and nothing is done about it by either the parents or the staff. I think the library staff could bring it to the attention of the parents, rather than let the screaming kids disrupt study time for the rest of us.

This one-story library was much bigger than I anticipated (in comparison to the Upham's Corner…read morelibrary and the Field's Corner library, this is much bigger) so this was a lovely surprise. Since this was my first time here, I am not sure if they recently went through renovations or not, but it sure looks like it. The library has high ceilings, couches towards the middle of the floor, and the tables next to the windows that make it a bright spot to work at. What I also liked was the courtyard section (make sure you don't bring food inside since you won't be able to eat it in the courtyard & FYI it was locked so you will need to ask for the doors to be opened). There are a lot of tables and seats so if you feel like reading outside this might be a good idea once it's officially spring weather. It might not be ideal if you're trying to work on a laptop since the tables are made out of wood and the wood does not have super smooth finish.

The 2nd best one is McCormick. There's also a massive library with the best quality librarians. There's a tech computer desk to help with virtually anything computer or smartphone related, and it's totally free. (The coffee isn't tho) This location was money well spent from taxpayers and donors.... however, beware of the crooked staircase!!! The stairs are designed on a diagonal and no safely like a regular set of stairs. Elderly people BEWARE! Take the elevator. They also have children's books here.

Extending their hours extensively (and opening the main branch on Saturdays), improving their services, adding all sorts of 3D printers, video games, computers and more. They have truly captured the idea of "maker spaces" that both public libraries and school libraries are trying to capture in the here and now. They truly use their space well (which they have a lot of), and have added all the features that make the library a great place to be for everybody. The extremely comfortable seating throughout the library is fantastic as well. Typically I feel like most libraries have chairs that are as hard as rocks at the computers, not here, where there is a new high table in the main room with tall comfortable seating. Fabulous. Now they even give out the first ten prints free and ten cents for any additional pages. Never paying the twenty cents at the Norwood Library (while I love Norwood, that library is a JOKE) per side of each page with the computers that don't work and the ridiculous seating arrangements. The staff always go above and beyond to be helpful. I don't know the staff here all that well (I visit the Endicott Branch more frequently), but they all make efforts to get to know the people who frequent the library. Again, in the Norwood Library this is only the opposite (which is really sad!). Always love the Dedham Public Library, and even more now since it looks so great, inviting, and useful for everyone! 5 stars, more if possible. I've been to a LOT of libraries and while others in the area are pretty good (Needham, Natick, Wellesley, Newton); none compare to this library and the Endicott Branch!

I had an event in the area to go to, but also had some time to kill beforehand. Since it was…read moreraining, I naturally wanted to read a book in a quiet area. I found BPL Roslindale on google. Since it is Boston, parking was scarce and it was a hassle (the parking lot they do have is for employees only). After a couple minutes of driving around, I found side street parking and walked about 3 minutes. The inside of the library is modern, clean, and bright; they have a lot of overhead lights but the large windows let in a lot of the natural sunlight. I liked that they had a couple tables and some seats along the windows looking out. I sat at one of the comfy chairs in this area. I didn't do much exploring but the main desk with librarians was at the center of the library; very convenient and central location. The downside of the open floor plan was that it wasn't the quietest library, but it also wasn't difficult to concentrate. They had a decent amount of books. I think it is only one floor only. It is handicapped accessible since the entrance is one long and wide corridor and the space between book shelves does seem wide enough. They do close early--6 pm on a weekday--compared to my library back home. Based on the number of kids I heard and see walk in with their guardians, I assume they have a lot of kid friendly activities or at least an area for kids.

Better to know: 1) In person, over the phone, or on-line (with a minuteman library card) you can request materials from any other library in the minuteman network, and they will be delivered here. They will e-mail you when they get there, and all you have to do is walk in and hand them your card at the desk. Saving you time, and frustration. You can also renew books on-line. 2) Libraries are very in right now. Save money and be green all at the same time!

But still, the awesomeness of the library completely outweighs the fact that it's hours are not what I would want them to be. The staff is unbelievably friendly. Sometimes I feel silly for always checking out books that are less than the highest quality of literature (can I help it if young adult sci fi makes awesome bus reading?), but they don't judge. I'm also continually impressed with their DVD selection. Awesome service, awesome selection, less than awesome hours, but still definitely a good alternative to paying for books that I'll just have to move or paying to rent DVD's!

As others mentioned there was an odd smell. 2nd floor, I was also told I couldn't sit there as it was for children and teens, hardly anyone was there. There's a side room for programming for parents and children, which seems like a great resource. The best thing is that it is sometimes opened until 9pm, not so easy to find, grateful for that. If this were a private BUSINESS, I might give it 3 stars tops, and this is the main reason why: It's basically a hang out spot for the unemployed and possibly unhoused folks in the neighborhood. I don't think I've ever felt threatened or unsafe here, but if I were coming for a quiet place to read or study and didn't have use of my trusty noise-blocking earbuds which work very well, it would NOT be a good choice. Today there was a guy who was talking to a hallucinatory entity non-stop and neither staff nor other patrons seemed to bat an eyelash...it was just business as usual, lol. Call me paranoid, but I would not risk leaving any valuables unattended for much more than ten seconds. The attached photo of signage in one of the two unisex bathrooms (which you have to actually sign your name to a wait list for if both are occupied and there's a wait), gives you a pretty good idea of the urban reality this place is situated in. Bright spots: the staff are quite nice, helpful, and do their best as they can. There is a nice collection of offbeat movies (BD/DVD) and music (CD) that you can rent, with a wonderful self-service scanner! I appreciate that they're open till 9pm on Tue/Th (albeit just 6pm MWF, 2pm Saturdays, and closed Sundays). They have some nice programs, like free English conversation classes for immigrants, basic tech help workshops, etc. In conclusion, can't really complain. It is where it is, and what it is.
