Some of my favorite classes are Vanessa's 9am-10:30 Saturday morning flow class, Manpreet's 9am-10:30 Kundalini yoga class, and Carlos's 9am Monday morning Flow yoga class as well as Carlos's Wednesday evening 5:30pm Yin classes. The studio owner Natalie is also a great teacher, as well. The studio has a nice bright energy, and the people who come to the classes are friendly and welcoming to new people. In addition to yoga, there are also often sound baths on certain weekends held during full moons and other celestial events. Those are excellent! Definitely recommend checking one out for deep relaxation. Other offerings I've checked out and enjoyed include a Tai Chi class Carlos taught as well as some yoga workshops and teacher training. They also offer retreats to Italy, Portugal, and more. I highly recommend this studio and the people running it and teaching here. Sign up for classes in advance on their website. There are props and mats you can borrow, and there is free street parking.

I've been attending classes at AYC for a number of years now and can't recommend it highly enough…read more The studio itself is lovely and calming but it's the instructors that really make it for me, particularly Carlos. He is deeply knowledgeable not only about yoga but movement in its many forms including tai chi. I appreciate detailed explanations of poses and muscle groups and how they impact the body. Carlos, and the other instructors at AYC, are very good at this. Perhaps having a yoga center that offers a teacher training program attracts highly skilled and effective instructors.

Rose Yoga is the best. I always look for an Iyengar studio, and it's always the same: precise…read moreinstructions from generous, eagle-eyed instructors who look out for each student's well-being while encouraging self-knowledge and self-care. Janet provides all this in spades, but there's so much more here. It's amazing how she can work with a room of students at all levels and ages. (There are classes at many levels, but students often come to lower levels than you'd expect, as there are only one or two classes most days.) Janet's self-depreciating humor makes me feel at home, and helps produce a much, much deeper sense of community than I've experienced anywhere else. (I studied--and loved--yoga for years at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Los Angeles, and for months at a time in Iyengar studios in Moscow and St. Petersburg.)

For the Ashland studio:: I didn't feel welcome at all here…read moreunfortunately. I love the iyengar lineage and I've had quite a few years of practicing yoga consistently in many different regions. Being so small of a space, and in a small town, I thought they would be nice and a great place to practice. However, I was called out many times during my classes for my age and my practice being 'sloppy'. I was snapped at and I felt really ashamed and embarrassed when I left both times...(I tried it twice in case it was just me) which in case you were wondering is NOT how a yoga practice should leave you feeling. Both of the classes I tried were an average older students..i asked about that and I was told the 'college kids' go to the 'other studio'...I mean. Goodness. I know this town has a pretentious spirituality side, but I was sad to run into it here. I had high hopes for authenticity, kindness and quality instruction and they weren't met. Especially for the prices they charge for such a humble and ancient spiritual practice. Go elsewhere.
