I have been going to Michelle at Boss Braids for about 3 years. It is true- she can literally Braid your hair in about 2 hours or less. I have literally gone on an extended lunch break! She does a looser style, Braid, which is not as tight as some Braids I have had in the past, which is much better for my scalp and edges. Michelle was AMAZING! It was my first time seeing her and I had to drive an hour to my appointment. I cannot deal with rambling reviews when I just want the dirty, so here we go (for minimal context -- I rarely leave reviews and I almost never leave negative reviews, but y'all need to know because I am blown over my experience): I went in for a set of crochet braids with faux locs. I paid a $50 deposit to hold my spot and showed up on time as instructed with clean, dry, brushed-out hair and my purchased hair (six packs of locs w/ 15 pieces per pack). Michele was very warm when she greeted me and she was a very nimble, efficient braider as she put my natural in cornrows for the crochet. She asked me how much hair I brought, I told her six packs, and she said something like 'okay, good.' She continued to be very polite as she quickly finished the braiding pattern and had her equally polite wife/assistant come in to lay the hair our for her; Michele asked how many were on each pack and her wife let her know '15'. I will add here that the room Michele works out of is on the smaller side and has no mirrors for you to see as she works (she does provide a small hand-held mirror you can check yourself out in at the end and there is a bathroom just down the hall which I think had a mirror in it). She continued to work quickly adding it the locs and she finished up the installation in probably only about an hour and 40 minutes, beginning to end. As she began to gather a few of the locs to style my final look, it was then that she mentioned she really probably need another pack, maybe two more, for the look to be full. She went on to note that there were some coverage issues and she could try to style it all the way up, but...(she made kind of a wincing face). It was then that I should have immediately gone to the bathroom to look or requested the mirror to give my head a full inspection, but I've been following her work on IG for minute now (I am extremely choosy about braiders) and naively was certain I could trust her professional judgement. She wouldn't let me walk out of her shop looking crazy, right? Plus my butt was getting numb (she uses a folding chair) and I was ready to be on my way. I paid her wife the other $50 for the service plus a $15 dollar tip and grabbed snap of my face (looked cute) on my way home. I was feeling ways about how she styled my hair as I caught reflection of myself in windows but I chose to be optimistic. Once I got home (I live nearby) I took the following pictures, was absolutely gutted and feeling f---ed up, and immediately took it all down within less than an hour of getting them installed, $115 later. I basically donated $115 to her family because I stupidly assumed that she would A. know if she had enough hair or not for her client B. tell the client if she didn't C. do those things before she did the whole head and not after the fact so that they could just reschedule and get more hair, and finally D. be professional and serious enough about her work not not ever let a client walk out $100 + tip lighter LOOKING ABSOLUTELY F---ING CRAZY. Like, YO. If you suck at crochet, don't do it. If you don't have what you need to complete a service, don't do it. That is a non-negotiable expectation for any stylist. And I feel like a fool for trusting this lady to do my s--t. It was extremely disappointing and while I won't say that Michele can't do good hair, I *will* say that she is a braider who is willing to let her clients leave looking WILD. And that's a permanent no for me. For the record, I did not bother contacting her for a refund so I don't know how that would have been received by her. I'm just moving on with my edges. read more

I would have wrote my review when I got my box braids last week but I was in the midst of moving, finally was able to sit down today so I'm writing my review, NOW! My braids are very neat and pretty. Michelle was very honest, direct and professional. My hair was damaged by henna that was not authentic and the product knocked my natural curls out and left me with limp, straight, lifeless hair. I wanted to leave advice for future clients... each time you come in, tell her and show her a photo of what you want done EACH and EVERY TIME you sit in her chair. The first time I sat in her chair, I told her I wanted no scalp showing in the back and a hardline part on the right. I didn't tell her that the second time and my braid wasn't the way I wanted it. It's NOT her fault but she offered to fix it and try to squeeze me in her busy schedule just to make sure I was happy with it. That's great service and someone who is business savvy. I just got home from my first appointment with Michelle. I haven't had braids since I was 18. I'm 40 and I was being very picky on who was going to do my braids because I work in a very professional setting. Michelle was kind and EXTREMELY fast. We started at 3:45 and she was done by 5:45 ish. And just because she's fast doesn't mean the quality is lacking. Every braid is uniform and neat. On Nov 26 2021 I scheduled an appointment for Dec 17. An early braid change due to the upcoming holidays. I arrived on time Dec 17 to a locked Boss Braids salon door. I texted Michele K. See the attached text photo response! She had the ability to text that she was at home and not feeling well. But I was not given the respect that a customer deserves in a text from her to notify me she would not be there! I took down my braids the day prior, went to another appointment for color and blow out with NO styling and was in need of Michele K braiding services prior to a Christmas party THAT EVENING, a weekend getaway and Christmas with 20 family members one week later! Today was my second time getting my hair done by Michelle. It was an absolutely wonderful experience for a multitude of reasons: #1 - My appointment was at 12pm. I'm used to other stylists starting late...it's almost expected. However, I was in Michelle's chair at 11:59am to my delight! #2 - Her shop is very private. I loved that her shop was very intimate and there were no other clients or lookie-loos watching me get my hair done. Oftentimes at hair appointments, I am in sweatpants with minimal makeup - not looking my best. #3 - Our conversation flowed effortlessly and Michelle taught me a lot about how to care for my natural hair by explaining details about hair follicles, tension, etc. #4 - Most importantly, the results were BETTER than I could have ever expected. Michelle is one of the best braiders I've ever had in my head. Being that I only let my mom and a close friend braid my hair I'm really picky with who I let in my head.
