A poor, unsuspecting woman wandering in was shouting to her friend that she'd meet him in 5 minutes, as she was opening the door and the GLARES she got from the silent bookworms perusing the shop was a bit much. Still, a gorgeous and tiny book shop crammed from top to bottom with cook books, travel books, kids books, history books, some fiction...all sorts really. I had to drag the boy away from the history section as he could have been there for hours. Call me old-fashioned but I can't get involved in this Kindle nonsense and absolutely love shopping for books. I love small, independent bookshops like this one as they just feel so cosy. I was hungry however, and felt panicked the entire time I was in there that my stomach would rumble and disturb the peace and quiet. The lady working there was very smiley and friendly - best job ever, you get to read all day!

It stocks a range of games and gaming equipment, from simple children's board games to more esoteric items for role-playing or adult games. It also has a range of books for D&D and RPG. Service here is knowledgeable and friendly, and it's easy to get into a long conversation about the item(s) you are buying and spend half an hour in there when you've only popped in for one thing. The range of games varies from time to time, so you can't always find something you've seen before, but ordering is usually possible. The shop is spacious and while items are not stacked in the most user-friendly way - a knack for reading sideways comes in handy - it means that a lot can be fitted in without making the shop feel cramped. Highly recommended whether you're a serious gamer or just looking for something to pass the time at a family get-together or children's party.

Although they do have lots of D&D gaming literature, I was looking more for their novels and comics, but I do realize they have to select or prioritize products.

The shop is great for a massive discount but not really for searching for a most wanted book. Also available at 'The Works' are celebrity calenders, postcards, posters and for some reason lots of books about Steam Railways?! The shop often is very disorganised, with some items not really displayed but merely plonked down in their original packaging with the top ripped open. However, the shop is good for childrens books, big floppy paperbacks that kids love. It does seem quite a kids orientated shop actually, running all over the place whenever I've passed. The best thing about the shop is its location. The shop is situated right in the heart of the town centre, literally probably the most central shop in the town. A good shop for Christmas when you dont know what to buy for presents!

The store was reasonably stocked, and although I couldn't find my usual brand of milk, I was able to find a reasonable alternative, while also being impressed with the gluten-free sections, including items they had reduced due to nearing their expiration date. The checkout process was simple using the Marks and Spencer app, which allows you to scan items as you walk around the store, pay on your phone and leave. The store was easy to follow and find what I was looking for, without the assistance of a staff member. I would prefer this store be open slightly longer in the day, I find their 6:30 pm closing time to be too early for my liking, but sadly this is in line with other shops nearby and they must have decided to follow suit. 4* - A nice Marks and Spencer location overall, while I do prefer the visual appearance and actual selection and unique offerings of their newer and refurbished Food Halls, this is a nice location nonetheless.
