Boruni is the better of many shops that sell amber jewelry in the Old Town. It's perhaps the only one with a small display room in the back - the gallery, with well arranged showcases up front. I really like their chess set in the back.
The sales girls are pleasant but leave you alone, unless you ask for their help. They provide Baltic amber certificate, take credit cards and need your passport to issue a VAT refund receipt. Unfortunately, they don't offer a VAT refund (I always take the rebate at the shop if it's available, because it's hit-or-miss at the airport... I still haven't received mine this time, two months later).
Kraków is a major center for amber jewelry sales, while Gdańsk is Poland's primary amber port, located on the Baltic Sea, where much of the world's amber originates.
The World of Amber by Schubert in Krakow is a dominant player, with many branches or many shops carrying its designs, which I shopped as well. read more
