Large and spacious branch of the chemists. There are several beauty concessions inside and a good perfume and make up selection although they don't have any of the more exclusive brands here. The staff are a bit slow moving though. read more

I needed to pick up some cough meds while visiting Cardiff. This pharmacy was recommended by our…read moretour guide. Because I wasn't familiar with the brands, I got the assistance of a young lady who worked in the Medicine Dept. She asked thorough questions to make sure she recommended the right one. Although I went for the Pharmacy this store was quite large. There were cards, snacks, sandwiches and drinks. There also was a large assortment of beauty, hygiene and toiletry products. Probably even more departments in the back that I didn't see.

She looked at me rudely straight in the face and blanked me completely and didnt bother to give me an answer. She just turned around to her colleague and pretended that she was speaking about someone else in front of me to her colleague. I am a person from a minority ethnic background and I just know the motive was pure racism. I didn't bother saying anything more because did not want to cause any DRAMA. I just turned around and walked away, this ruined my mood and shopping experience in Boots.

This newly opened Boots has replaced their longstanding store just ten seconds further down. I'm…read moreincreasingly confused about why the good people of Boots spent the time and money to make this venture - as it is seems to be exactly the same inside! You may think that every Boots in the country is going to be the same; generic, bland but ultimately useful. But you'd be wrong! This Boots is FANTASTIC. It's absolutely massive for a start so you're bound to find whatever cosmetic or pharmaceutical product you're after. And best of all it has the most helpful and friendly staff of any shop in Bath. Whenever I've been in, one of the shop assistants has been at hand to help me find me exactly what I'm after or recommend something new to me. This Boots also has a great range of cosmetics and perfumes which I've never seen in any of their other stores. My best buy here has been the new Prada perfume at £35 which was sold out everywhere else I'd been.

Boots should have stayed in their original position, which was a much bigger store, and saved themselves a packet of money. The layout has been kept more or less the same, though, which is a boon, as I got to know my way around the other one pretty well when hunting for cold remedy and the like. It's just that I hate coming into Westgate. Bah.

It's a boots, you know the drill, it's convenient, it has meal deals and paracetemol and it's familiar. I can recommend this particular branch for it's potential for people spotting. At lunchtime, gorgeous young nurses, doctors and all sorts flood in to grab a quick meal deal. Most of them still in their scrubs, stethescopes attached. Very nice. It's one of my favourite places on earth.

If you go to Boot's you often end up paying through the nose (although the advantage points and offers are some consolation) but at Savers you just get what you need, no frills, no tempting offers because everything is already so cheap. It sells hayfever medicine cheaper than anywhere else in town and there are all the main brands of shampoos, hair dyes and moisturisers etc at cut prices. I don't know how they do it but it's worth taking a detour if your toiletry stocks are running low.

They stock washing basics, toiletries, make up, baby bits, and now they've started stocking some food too! On top of all the things here that are already cheaper than usual, they always have offers on. The main draw are their prices; I just paid 89p for Vaseline, the new Loreal Perfect Colour 10 hair dye for £3.99, and 20 bin liners for 69p. It isn't as if you're getting lower quality for a lower price, as all their items are of known brands. A really great shop to save some pennies!

Staff are really helpful, the stock isn't nearly as good as the old store and a third of teh store is premium beauty (because rich people shop in Bath, probably). Now I used to it, its not so bad! Staff are very friendly, they provide helpful advise and stocks are usually good on most items I buy. More recently they've put more shelving in the makeup section which makes it much more tricky to just get into the store; maybe the ladies like it but as a bloke, I hate having to dodge my way through shoppers just to get to the lunch section (sorry I've become a grumpy old man :) )

There didn't really seem to be any coherence in the way things were organised - why was the make up all spread out? Where's the medicine? Where do I hand in my prescription? There was also a little table of 1/2 price toys but something about it just reminded me of those fetes your school runs. You've been put in charge of a stall but, let's face it, you're a child. You have no clue what you're doing... Not really a good look for a professional shop. The service was quite slow but when I got my prescription she explained to me how the inhaler would work and waved me off with a smile. Oh I do like friendly service. There are also a few chairs to sit on while you wait so, all in all, it wasn't too bad.

It does seem a bit odd to go into a shop where everything is a bit spread out and there haven't been marketing specialists figuring out the best way to make you buy stuff you didn't know you wanted, but then this is a shop for when you know what you want. They've got a bit of everything, and you could do much worse in an emergency. Most important, though, is the pharmacist himself. Really helpful and friendly and really seems to know what is what.
