We were staying in Chester when the fire happened at Heathrow in London in March 2025. Since we were due to fly out in 2 days, we were very concerned about getting home. I was worried that I would run out of my medication, so I went over the the Boots near my hotel to talk to a pharmacist about possible solutions. the young lady who assisted me in named Amanda, I think. I observed her working with an elderly man before my turn and it was remarkable. She knelt down and got on his level and talked to him, not at him. She spent a great deal of time with him, then helped him find the treatment he needed. That kind of customer service is rare, at least in the US. When it was my turn, I explained to her my situation and showed her the pictures of all my pill bottles. I was clear that I wanted to pay for the medication, not use their healthcare system. She spent 5-10 minutes checking for a solution, before getting me a phone and putting me in touch with NHS. After speaking with NHS for a while and then speaking with Amanda again, we worked out a solution that might have worked. She was adamant that if our plan did not work, I was to come back to see her and we would try something else. In the end, the airport opened up and we were able to get on our flight, no trouble, and I got home with a day of medication to spare. Bravo to Amanda and to Boots! read more
