Medicare (Fiztroy) lower Ormeau Road is a prescribing pharmacist located right next door to Ormeau…read moreHealth Centre. Hence it's convenient for picking up prescriptions, however it can be extremely busy so be prepared for a wait on occasion. It's a very good Pharmacist and worth a visit to get advice and medicine for minor ailments before heading to your Doctor. Sells a range of cosmetics, perfume and beauty products as well.

With competition from veteran chains like Boots, Superdrug or Semi-Chem many have marvelled over…read morethe success of Medicare chemists. However, I have not. My first experience of the chain was within Queen's Student Union where I would gleefully walk in with a full student loan and come out brandishing goods from perfume, tweezers and face packs. I found it difficult to control my purchasing needs when I entered this store as everything was really cheap and scented beautifully. However, I have mastered the art of spending wisely which helps as my nearest store is located on the Ormeau Road just a few minutes from my house. This particular Medicare has much more to offer than the smaller unit in Queen's Student Union as it has a full pharmacy counter to deal with all illnesses and drug prescriptions. Yet, because of its greater range and pharmacy counter this store can be particularly busy so do expect a queue. Same goes if you're planning to purchase something you don't want others to see...could be embarrassing when most residents of the Ormeau Road can see what's in your shopping basket.

Normally when I think of Boots I think of perfume, make-up and a chemist but the range of products…read moreand services boots offers has been growing at a phenomenal rate. It now offers photo development and even an opticians. It is becoming a one stop shop for everything. What I like about Boots is that it stocks major brands so you can be assured that what you are buying is the real deal in comparison to the likes of semi-chem. I recently called into the Boots in Castlecourt as I had really bad toothache and was going to pick up some gel for it. I went to the counter to pay when the girl advised me of a product they had that would work much better and was pretty much the same price. I bough the recommended gel and it worked wonders and I've recommended it to my friends. Purely because of the excellent customer service and advice I'd come back to this Boots of I had any ailments that could be sorted with over the counter drugs.

As a female, this Boot's store is great for make-up, hair products, make up brushes and other…read morerandom things that us girls have to fork out for for general upkeep! It really does offer excellent choice and stocks cool (but well overpriced) make-up brands like Urban Decay and Benefit- swooon! I also get my foundation in here which is Revlon Colurstay and works out about a tenner cheaper than when I buy it down south! Crazy! This particular one isn't stocked by many places, so I was delighted to find it in here. The make-up ranges are great and they also have every hair care prouduct you can think of. The John Frida Brilliant Brunette hair serum is only £6 and works wonders. Really recommended. Randomly they also offer a range of lunch sandwiches and pasta dishes for people popping in on their break. On the pharmacy end of things the staff are knowledgeable, helpful and polite. A great store, which has been recently refurbished, in a great location. Only thing is you're going to come out with empty pockets!

I love that Stranmillis is not merely a pharmacy, oooh no...it's a pharmacy plus. Very snazzy…read more Not quite sure what this means in terms of its pharmaceutical services, but the shop itself didn't do a bad job at all. Many of the products were well reduced, and I managed to pick up a bottle of 'Herbal Essences' for £1.99, whilst my sister had discovered a blonde hydrating shampoo for 99p...a girl after my own heart. There was an entire stand dedicated soley to 99p cleaning products and household wares. I even spotted all the various kinds of 'Vaseline' tins for 99p, which is really an absolute bargain. At this rate, Stranmillis Pharmacy Plus was going to be transferring into a pound shop. Despite all these wonderful bargains, I did manage to restrain myself...just. The only sales assistant is the place was helping out the other customer, so definite bonus points for that, as she seemed to get what she needed. He was polite enough when serving me, and definitely seemed the kinda guy I wouldn't mind asking about eye drops / tablets / dear only knows what else I may need in a pharmacy. Definitely fitted my bill for a good, decent pharmacy. Nothing to do with all those lovely discounts of course...

I was charged a fiver to get a document certified for my bank (this is normally done by solicitors,…read morebut for this specific document a pharmacist would have sufficed) - this was fine until I was informed by my bank (First Direct) that the details given by the "pharmacist" were bogus: the registration number they provided did not match that of anyone licensed to practice in the UK and Ireland. Staff were also incredibly rude, both on this occasion and other times when I have been picking up prescriptions. Will be avoiding at all costs, now.

Located just before or after Tates Avenue (depending on which direction you are going I suppose)…read morethis lovely little pharmacy is particularly handy as it is located very close to my house. It is well laid out and stocked with all of the usual pharmacy bits and pieces, including a bunch of cleaning products which I'd not seen in a pharmacy before. Though they can be bought cheaper in the bigger supermarkets. The staff in it are particularly pleasant, most memorably because I got into a conversation with one of them regarding some toothpaste I was purchasing. Now perhaps she was lonely or bored or she wanted to get to know me before she stole my pin number, but usually when I go to buy toothpaste, I just expect to pay for it and say thank you and then leave. Instead, this lady insisted on chatting away, which I didn't really mind, but if you go to have a conversation with someone about toothpaste, chances are your conversation is going to run dry pretty quickly (then you'd use mouthwash... ba dum) The pharmacy is very handy and very friendly, and offers customers a much more personal experience than one might expect.

It sells a lot of beauty products and house hold items, as well as the usual pharmacy stuff from cold medicine to those fateful pain killers needed for a epic hangover. A friend of mine went here when he decided to try and quit smoking, the lady was very helpful and gave him information on all sorts of information on counselling and support groups as well as recommending the best quitting aid to suit his needs. I was quite impressed by the information the pharmacist was giving but also giggling at the futile hopes that he'd gave up! 8 weeks later........he still enjoys the occasional cigarette!
