Jacksters is right in his description that this is a traditional English pub, but I cannot understand the low rating he has provided. I guess hes right to say that "I think you're either a two meals for less than a tenner person or you're not and I tend not to eat at places that offer it as an option". Like the Boot and Shoe, I have no pretensions, nor am I snobbish about the price of food - its either good or bad, and although cheap, the food at The Boot and Shoe is excellent. Me and my family have eaten here many times, partly because we can afford to go often. The food is of a consistently high standard, using fresh, locally sourced produce from around the agricultural area surrounding the village. It is a local community pub (they even accept post for anyone in the village!) and we locals love it. The other pub in the village, as Jacksters says, has followed the gastro pub route, and this is partly because there is little point competing with the Boot and Shoe, because it does what it does so well. The beer is of an excellent standard, especially the hand pulled bitter, with more choice than youd expect in a village pub and it is kept really well (as is the pristinely maintained pool table). The staff are great - friendly and talkative if you want, but they do not intrude if its privacy youre after. A Sunday afternoon meal here with the family is a hugely enjoyable and easily affordable treat. Cant recommend the place highly enough. read more
