It's strange - they are quite expensive compared to a…read morelot of the other shops, especially as far as greeting cards go - but there is always a massive queue at the front of the shop! They have some nice gift ideas, but they are generally quite pricey if you compare them to other high street shops. The layout of the store is quite claustrophobic too - the displays are high and wide - if you panic easily, don't go in!! They do have a wide selection of books, and often have special offers on. They also have Cd's and DVD's upstairs, but their prices are way more expensive even than HMV, and that is expensive compared to online retailers. There is one great thing about this WH Smiths tho - they have an honesty box for your daily papers - so if you don't have the time to queue up, then you can just drop your money into the box and leave with your paper! The staff aren't overly friendly, but neither are they rude or obstructive, they're just there!!

Book Depository was bought by Amazon in 2011, and its closure is strongly suspected to be due to the elimination of thousands of Amazon jobs.

I was delighted to read that the…read morecompany had free delivery and would deliver half way round the world in 15 days, and there was an apparent process to 'track your order' so I felt secure in spending more money on a book than I have ever spent before, because this is a specific book that I needed for research, and I cannot do without it. I could have bought it for less from Amazon, and waited longer, or I could have bought it for over $300 NZ dollars locally, and had a prompt delivery, but 15 days sounded fine so I made the purchase. A month later, the woman who works at our local depot has told me that Book Depository never provide tracking and all their books are sent standard post. Here I was, wondering if I had chosen the wrong option... it wasn't until I went to track the order after 15 days, that I learned from the website that my book was "untrackable". This is beyond misleading. It is false advertising! The website clearly states that you can 'Track your order' but their only definition of that is that you can check to see if and when your book was "dispatched". and that's for all books. In the small print at the bottom of the website under "where's my stuff?" (guessing they get a lot of complaints) it says: "Will my order be tracked? We currently provide tracking for a few countries, you can find further information on tracking here. and clicking there shows us: Will my order have tracking? Currently we offer tracking for all orders shipped to: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, Israel, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, Turkey, United States, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay. So, my country is not on the list. But you know what that is NO excuse for having a misleading website that suggests your book will be tracked and delivered safely - this has nothing to do with th covid delays. The original time frame has already offered 12-17 days to this country with the covid delays taken into account. Frankly, I am horrified to see these bad reviews showing that others have had the same problem. I expect to either get my book or get a full refund, but I presume that won't come easily for me either reading the reviews above. I will simply never ever use book depository or recommend it to anyone ever again. Am not in sanfran by the way, am in NZ. don't know why Yelp has me in the states.
