I have been here numerous times and have never experienced a rude person. The selection is superb and the price is very reasonable

I heard the blonde woman (owner?) speak to a customer in an incredibly demeaning, belittling and disrespectful way as soon as the customer stepped foot into the store. The customer was on a phone call and was not being disruptive whatsoever, but the woman snapped at her "You can take your phone call outside and come back when you're done." Excuse me? I dont know any store owner who would speak to a customer this way when they weren't being disruptive and had barely walked inside. The owner was incredibly rude, condescending, belittling and acted with a "better than you" attitude. Its a BOOKSTORE, not her own personal sacred library collection. There are plenty of other bookstores out there where the owner isnt an a******. I'll never go back. read more

At first I thought this was a cute little store. I had gotten a phone call while browsing and when 2 other ladies came in the woman working smacked me on the shoulder twice and told me I needed to take my phone call outside. I didn't mind to be told to take it outside but to smack me to get my attention was wildly inappropriate. I will not be back read more

What a neat little book store in Fargo, and I do mean little and still pretty neat. The store is small, very well organized and super shoppable. The person who was working on Saturday the 5th was incredibly smart and friendly, fun to talk with and super helpful. When in town, I will stop in again! read more

This is by far my favorite bookstore. I stop every time I'm in the area (My local bookstore has nothing on this place). The prices are great and I never leave without finding a few books to add to my collection. Granted, I love romance (paranormal and contemporary) and historical fiction, it's not hard to find these genres in this store! The store is small, but so relaxing to look through the shelves. The lady that is always there when I go is always friendly, and we chat for a few minutes each time. I look forward to visiting every time I'm in Fargo (Which is a few times a year) and make sure it's on my list of stops to make. I hope she's around for a long time. read more

Hands down the best used bookstore in Fargo. Organized, clean used bookstore. Owner is very knowledgeable about what she has in stocks. Can't beat the prices anywhere. Why buy new books? read more

Didn't have much in the areas that interested me, these being history (US and European), art, and philosophy. Heavy on fiction, mystery, Christian titles. read more

I absolutely love this store! Pound for pound the best book store in the area! They sell their books for 1/5 of the original price (that's how they get their name). Now, it's a very small space and they don't have an enormous selection; but that's part of the fun. It's cozy and feels like a treasure is in store at each shelf! You never know what you're going to find, but you can always leave with a pile of books for a great deal. For example, the last time I went there I got 6 books, one of which a hardback, for under $14! How does it get better than that?! They have popular authors along with lesser-known titles -- so you're bound to find something you will like! Check it out! read more

owner is extremely rude. the pic that is posted here on Yelp make it look like a great place to get used books, but the shelves aren't that stocked! there are more books in that pic than there is in the store...which is the size of a walk-in closet read more

I like the back story. I like the mission. I even (kinda) like the general location (having spend oodles of sustained time in the immediate vicinity there a couple decades back). Staff seems pretty friendly and engaging. What is there is fairly well laid-out and organized, at least enough to be able to navigate relatively easily. All of that is fine. Let's be real here, though, for a second or two. All media-based stores, even those sections in places like Wal-Mart and Target, are predicated on selection. I get that this place gets most of its inventory via either donation or trade and as a book lover and aficionado, I greatly appreciate the second life these are being given, but I'm not rating based on founding ideals and guiding principles of the place, but rather how it functions as a business. All of that stuff comes at the compromise of selection, which is dubious here, assuming you're not wanting Romance titles. One could easily spend an hour (or more) here and walk away with a paltry quantity of books. Yes, they would be at a substantial discount, but the fact that you have to spend that time, that it is a necessary, a requirement, is a bit of a nuisance. I appreciate the mission and I realize they have very limited space and are doing the best they can, etc. etc. Realistically, I would give them a 3.5, but as much as it pains me, I can't reasonably give them the push to 4...a larger space and more inventory, definitely then... read more

Went in looking for an atlas was barely in & the rude woman behind the counter informed us to shut the door it's hot outside even though the outside door was closed . Bad attitude! I hope she's not the owner. I like their mission but lose the rudeness! read more

Before you go to any used bookstore in all of Fargo, go here. Because you will kick yourself paying half price when it could have been 80%. I couldn't believe it. I got to meet a very nice owner, April. The store is small, so the bookcases are taller, but things are provided to assist you with that. I like that it's very brightly lit. A handy area and plenty of parking. read more

RUN FAR AWAY FROM HERE! The owner is extremely rude and snarky and will make you feel like you invaded her beloved private book collection and will make you wait to get checked out a solid 15 minutes while she meticulously rearranges the shelving to punish you for messing up her bookshelf, even though you are purchasing $50 worth of books and a stack that's 2 feet high. I am not joking!!!!!!!! read more

Looking for your favorite book? I mean a real book, paperback or hardcover. Check out Books at a Fifth located at the Village West Mall. The space is small but they make sure there are numerous books for you to choose from. I also saw books on tape and large print on hand. The staff is knowledgeable on their library, so if you cannot find what you are looking for, just ask. read more

Books At a Fifth - Bookstores Near Me - Fargo, North Dakota

great prices, well organized books and very friendly service. used books are totally the way to go and you can donate your books here too! yay small businesses :) read more

We brought 2 large boxes of books in and there was no one in store for almost 10 minutes so we set the boxes on the counter. The door was open when we walked in and the store was completely unattended. When the woman walked in (young woman with long blond braid: think her name was Rachel?), she rudely barked out, "too much stuff on the counter!" and proceeded to SHOVE the box off the counter which hit my Aunt on the arm, and then told us she'd get to the boxes when she got to them. I was so shocked, I couldn't even talk! I went to pick up the box and she shooed me aside and ordered us to browse the store and she's get back to us. There was another woman waiting and she then turned to her and was nice as pie to her! Absolutely unacceptable and unwarranted rudeness! I tried to get ahold of the owner but couldn't find who owned the store. May be a decent store, but that woman should be fired read more

This place is fantastic. The lady that owns it is very friendly and helpful. She is actually trying to move product and not rip the customers off. There is another used bookstore in town and they overpriced their product, but that's their business and right. I will always prefer Books at a Fifth over any other retailer in town. She always has 1st edition Stephen King novels as well, and a vast selection of fiction and non-fiction. I love it there. read more

Excellent selection at great prices. They are competively priced and most paperback books can be had for less than $1.50. They are across the street from the big mall. read more

Books at a Fifth was a nice surprise- I had seen it in this area but didn't usually have time to check it out. It's a small shop, so the selection is limited, but the prices are great. They mostly have fiction books, especially genre fiction(yep, I hate that term too, but it's a commonly familiar term) books. Also, you can donate your old books for store credit. Check it out if you like used books. read more

My all-time favorite bookstore. I am a bibliophile autodidact that truly enjoys a good conversation about books. This is the place and April will make you feel humble with her knowledge of all that is sacred in literature. read more

I buy and sell books here from time to time and I love it!! Lot's of great books to choose from but a pretty small store.

Classic book store. Cash only, great discounts, and you can trade books in for store credit. I love this store because of the great used sci fi selection (best in town that I've found). You should sell your sci fi here so I can buy it :) Has that great nostalgic musty book smell that simultaneously reminds me of sunday morning coffee and sneezes. read more
