I really appreciate our few remaining physical bookstores. One can browse topics, to discover new authors or new interests. You can actually examine the various books on a specific topic to see which one is best for you. And with the Joe Muggs in the store, one can have a beverage and a snack while taking a break from shopping. Another excellent aspect of a brick-and-mortar bookstore is the helpful staff. Need to find a specific book? They can help! Looking for a gift, they can suggest things. They can even order things for you that might not be in stock. A modern bookstore has much more than books, periodicals, and media. They have lots of gifts, games, and other collectibles. Books A Million also has a lot of discounted and bargain books to browse. Another area that they have well covered is kids! There are a lot of books, toys, and gifts for the little ones in your life. Lafayette, you are lucky to still have a Books A Million to enjoy. In Baton Rouge, we recently lost our last one, so now the Capitol City has only one major book store. Having options is nice, so support your local booksellers whenever you can. read more

I like big books and I cannot lie. Ok, that was lame, but I really do and although this store doesn't have a million books it's got a lot and that translates to me being a definite fan. I like the way this store is laid out with its cozy chairs and couches situated all around. There is a Joe Muggs (BAM's version of Starbucks) that serves coffee, tea, sandwiches and pastries...if that's your thing Looking beyond the books you can find really great gifts here. I love Books A Million !!! Everyone knows they have books because they are a bookstore but for those that have never been they have so much more. They also have movie DVD's even old ones and what they don't carry in the store they most likely can order it for you. When I was a little girl I saw a Don Knotts movie called The Incredible Mr. limpet. I wanted to share that movie with my grandkids and sure enough they ordered it for me, WoW! They also have music, cards, gifts, magazines and more than I can remember to mention here. My daughter bought a Sushi making kit here that came with everything to make sushi including the recipe book but of course no food was included. The children's section is incredible. They also have a place inside to eat just in case you want a snack or a coffee. Some of my favorite cookbooks and other books have came from Books A Million. They have or can get anything you want to read, watch or listen to. read more

As we enter the store we are not greet with hello we are greeted with the employee stating they close in 15 minutes. His attitude and body language was just stating y'all need to hurry and get out of here because I'm ready to leave. We stated no problem we know what we are looking for and proceeded to the books. When we went to check out with at least 10 minutes to spare I asked if they still did the teacher discount. The employee who was in a rush stated yes but it's a process and it's close to closing so I replied no worries I won't keep you pass your time. Since we entered the store he rushed us. I mean I know when I worked in customer service I would of never rushed a customer I would of said yes ma'am we still honor teacher discount and left at that. I would of completed the process if the customer suggested. I mean I understand your ready to leave but man customer service has changed. read more

Nice selection and a little confusing on the organization . I don't know if I would bring kids here because there are a lot of tantalizing toys for them to beg you for. Oh also don't fall for the "free magazine offer" scam they run at the register . No one told me that I would have to call a 1-800 number in order to cancel it or I would get charged a full year amount after the two month subscription. HORRIBLE customer service! They were rude on the phone and in person. They are not interested in helping at all. I was confused on the rules about selling my books to them but they were just rude and it seemed as if they couldn't wait for me to leave, it seemed like she wasn't interested in answering questions I had and didn't even let me finIsh pulling my books out of my bag and took the bucket away in an annoyed manner. Awful. This place is a total mess. Nothing is where it should be, the check out counter is full of clutter, and if you're coming in for something specific, think twice; they likely won't have it. People who work here are usually rude. It's gotten even worse since they started selling used books. Just drive a little further to go to BNN. The difference is night and day. read more

Welcome to the only book store in the world which chooses not to implement any form of organizational system.

I have been to this location (Lafayette, LA) several times in the past month. Each time I've been to the store, I've shopped in the Christian Life section. The Christian Life section is completely unorganized. I asked for a book on Sunday. There was a young man at the front of the store who searched on the computer to find it. I was told that it was not in the store. He did not offer to order it. I just left. Later that day, a friend of mine told me that she located the book in that same store. I purchased it from Mardel on Monday. Tonight I went to the store again, in search of another book. I was told by a young lady in the coffee section that there were two in the store. I asked if she could locate the manager because I could not find the book I was looking for. She called a guy named Chris who could not locate the book either. He said he was going to walk to the front to see if it could be in another section. This was after he made excuses for why things were not in alphabetical order. I found the book myself while Chris was doing, "who knows what" at the front of the store. I asked for the District Manager's name. Chris told me he could not give it out. Chris told me that the General Manager would be in tomorrow morning. I was told by the other young lady that Chris was the manager. I told Chris that I would call the manager in the morning. Chris would not give me the manager's name. What is going on at your Lafayette location? I can't find books or knowledgeable staff to help locate books. My membership was just renewed. I wanted to cancel it months ago because I have consistently had a hard time locating books here. I will be cancelling my membership going forward if I continue to walk into this store and have a hard time finding books. Why should I bother with paying for membership when I have to walk into a store that is unorganized. The fiction section is not much better. read more

Megan is an horrible representation of the company and Christina is an even worse. This store managed to lose weekly customers over an $8 book. That was ordered in the store and I was never told that the book was non returnable. The booked arrived in the mail only after I realized that I had previously purchased the book.( It's on the schools reading list) I was going to exchange it for another book. When I tried to return it and Megan asked for the receipt she tossed the book at me and said it's non returnable and walked off. I then Sk for the manager Christina that was zero help. So I messaged BAM customer service. Lord knows I felt like I was in the movie groundhogs day. Anissa ask me five times which book was I refering to. She even sent a screenshot with my order and she still, couldn't keep track of the conversation. Nor could she undersatand that the in store associate order the book and had them shipped to my home. This was the most unprofessional exchange I've ever had in my life. We are a family of reader's and we spend a lot on books. In fact while I having this conversation my kiddos had already pick out over $200 worth of books. She let an employee mistake ( not informing me that the $8 book was non-returnable) drive away a customer. If the manager would have apologized and tried to make it right it would have been fine, but this whole company is broken and as much as I love this place they have forever lost my business. read more

Finally cashiers that arent pushy at books a million! Store is clean and organized, the staff is helpful and not trying to upsale you to the point of keeping you at the register for a hour trying to get you to sign up for the card. Much better than some of the other one's I've been to. read more

They clearly fall short of having a million books but that is not why they fall short in terms of stars. It's hard to knock big box stores; they obviously have well thought out formulas that work but, in the case of this particular BAM, it is the layout of the store; an esthetic factor that plays into my rating. The flow of the store is forced and confused and you are constantly left walking in circles trying to make sense of things. I'd much rather brave the Lafayette traffic and drive a few miles down the road or wait two days for an order on Amazon than try to find a book on the shelves here. read more

I called a day prior to bringing in various Blu Ray movies and Ultra HD movies (newer collections) for cash as they advertise they pay cash for DVDs. The young lady who answered said to bring them in. The next day I brought them in from travelling about 40 miles away only to be turned back at the door. The young lady at the desk told me that they only do it certain days of the week and certain hours of the day. AND that they were overstocked. I told them I spoke to someone the day before but she handed me a leaflet saying this was their policy and a "sorry". Why couldn't the lady I spoke to the day before tell me all of this? I was going to renew my membership and spend a good amount of money there that day but BAMM lost a customer. I sold the collection to a VERY happy business(as they were very popular titles) and got a membership at another bookstore. I refuse to give BAMM my patronage any longer. read more

horrible customer service is right!!! i give this store a negative 100%!!! I tried to place an online order on december 12,2019 five or more times and it kept giving error book not available yet it showed up in the cart. therefore, i gave up and went elsewhere and purchased the book. one month later an email came stating that the book would be shipped and the order was in process!!! i immediately wrote to cancel the order. the customer service rep says oooooh no its in process i cant cancel this order just return it when you receive it at the nearest store. i stated that the book was not ordered in the first place!!! the book came days later and i go try to return it as told. the manager says no read the bottom of the long email says non returnable!!! email says at top return to nearest store yet also says non returnable? do not try shopping with this service they will not take care of new or repeat customers!!! representatives are rude and just talk while customer explains situation when calling 800 number!!! rep kept talking over me and kept repeating over ans over the same thing like a robot!!! read more
