I have never in my life heard of a store making a customer pay for a bag. It is downpouring out and I was going to buy my husband an extremely expensive coffee table book, taking my total to over 100$ but refused to say if they would replace if it was destroyed in the rain walking from their store to my car because they are too cheap to provide their customers with bags. What about the customers that aren't buying just books, you are going to make them carry all their stuff out in their arms? It is not like Aldi discount store, BAM is extremely expensive, they should be able to afford to provide their customers with bags so their products don't get destroyed trying to get to their car. I will NEVER step foot in this store again. DO NOT recommend!!!! read more

I was in here for a few hours today and I was tired of holding my shopping bag (I walked from five below to BAM! and had a five below bag) and 2 books that I was thinking about getting so I slipped them in my bag and was planning on putting them back or buying them. I ended up buying a coffee and forgetting all about the books! I called the store and the employee who answered was pretty nice about the situation, and told me they were just about to call the cops so to come in tomorrow and return the books. All of the employees are very kind, especially the Joe Muggs worker, and speaking of Joe Muggs, I got a "The One Who Shall Not Be Names" frappe and it was amazing. Very strong coffee flavor! I don't know about the $6.55 price tag but the it's still an alright price. (Bathrooms were very clean) *I took off one star because the coffee is so expensive.* read more

The staff is unprofessional and rude. Two female employees, I believe their names were Amber and Asia, were extremely rude to customers and the majority of the staff loafs around instead of doing their jobs. The younger female, Asia, made loud discriminatory comments about customers within earshot. When you need assistance, you feel that you're interrupting them messing around on their phones rather than doing their jobs. All they care about is selling you their membership card which is worthless. The bathrooms have pornography magazines and lube in them on occasion, stolen merchandise torn up in the toilets, and are filthy. It honestly should just be shut down. I will never go to a BAM again because of the experience I had here. read more

This BAM is a godsend in this area, being as it is the only bookstore around since Hastings has recently closed. I enjoy browsing through numerous books and seeing what jumps out at me. They usually have clearance items and they almost always have a book sale going on. They also have a pretty decent selection of classic literature. The downside is that the wifi is paid wifi (who does that?) They have a Joe Muggs in here so that's a definite plus. In all actuality, coffee and books go hand in hand. My daughter likes coming here when we are in the area and she enjoys getting new books and browsing through the novelty and gift items, too. Happy reading, folks! read more

Don't buy here, they don't honor the refunds and returns policy. I just tried to make a return on a gift I bought. I brought it back just a day after I bought it , in perfect condition with the receipt ! I was told by the manager I could only get a gift card because the plastic film covering had been removed, so the books were 'no longer sellable' ?? Terrible customer service. Avoid here everything is double the price of Amazon anyways. read more

I mainly come here for magazines as I do admit they have a very good selection. Books-a-million is more interested in me buying the books they want to sell than offering a large variety of books. Years ago this might have been a 4 or 5 star review, but since they started charging for their membership they have nothing that sets them apart from other major brick and mortar book stores. Some may think the membership fee is small, but I can get the same discount, or better, at their online competitor for free. Plus the books won't be read through with the spine broken. Allowing people to use your store as a library may help them, but people who love books won't want to buy the mess that is left. And this store definitely needs a facelift in more ways than one. It's showing its age and looks dusty and messy inside. This was one of my definite visits when I was in the area previously, but not any longer. I only went this time to see if they had a book on cheese making - not so I could buy it, but so I could look through it before buying it online. read more

Since Hastings & Book Inn both closed, I give the Alexandria, LA Books-A-Million all of my book buying & coffee shop business. I tell everyone I know to give them patronage, because if B-a-M goes under, there won't be a single bookstore left in our small city. (And God knows the locals absolutely need lots of books.) I make sure I go there once a month, even if there's nothing specific I'm looking for. Sometimes I buy items for my niece or nephew just to give B-a-M some money. read more

Really great selection of books, comics, manga, and action figures. They always have great sales going on that you can't pass up! The coffee is pretty good, especially if you're a Frappe type of person. For espresso drinks however, it just isn't too strong in my opinion. The first time I went to this location, it was a friendly and happy atmosphere. It was a bit hectic, because it was the weekend, but the guy who seemed to be the manager was very helpful and polite. The second time, quite a while afterward, it was anything but a good atmosphere. The employees looked beaten down and resigned, and after I watched a woman I was told was the district manager talking down to an employee in front of customers, I could see why. I don't care if they were giving books away, if I had to go to that place with that type of management, I'd rather just order from Amazon. read more

Very disappointed! Dropped by to get a Latte at the Books a Million in Alexandria and was turned away. Asked the young lady to please heat the latte to my usual 180 degrees. I get it this temperature at other BAM locations as well as Starbucks regularly (a long way from boiling at 212) - no problem. She curtly refused saying she could not heat it that warm. This is not that hot and other places do it no questions asked. I prefer not to use Starbucks because of their very liberal agenda but...they are much more friendly and customer oriented. Guess I will have to go back to Starbucks until I find a friendlier coffee shop than BAM Alexandria. The Lake Charles location for BAM is great!! read more

My husband and I love it here. They have a great selection of books especially sci-fi for the husband and cozy mysteries for me. If I can't find what I need the employees help me. Since my husband is also disabled he has to sit for a while so the coffee shop is perfect. My favorite drink vanilla base (don't like cofee) frappe with chocolate and caramel . YUM! read more
