But if you're looking for an incredible selection of books stacked floor to ceiling. amazing science fiction paperbacks or mysteries, walls of fiction classic or modern, books on history, self-help, the occult, you name it, this has always been my go-to spot. It's wonderful, it's affordable, you can lose yourself for hours there. A real ornament to the city of Rochester. There is one sad thing about it, however. Recently Rick, the founder and owner, passed away from pancreatic cancer. His son Richard has taken it over, but Richard also is facing spinal surgery and will have to close the shop for at least two months if he can't find a replacement to watch the bookstore while he's recovering, or cover the bills. In fact, I have books that are still in boxes from the time that I moved to my current abode six years ago! I never opened the boxes because I simply don't have any space left on my bookshelves. What I liked about this bookstore was that you can quietly browse and look through some books and not be disturbed and not pressured to buy. However, the woman working the counter could've said hello and greeted the customer. Maybe she's an introvert like many bookworms??! not sure. There are books of all varieties on so many subjects. I was really drawn to what people call "coffee table books" with beautiful artwork. Van Gogh. Matisse. You get my drift. I was strong and I did not make any purchases considering I have no place for these books in my house. I'm sure that these books come from estate sales and the like. It is a very good concept to resell books instead of recycle or throw in the trash. The prices of the books seemed very fair.

Rochester Textbook goes by "Save on Textbook 1" on amazon. I've been dealing with them since Sept…read more 2, 2012 when I placed an order for a textbook. The class which the textbook was needed was canceled, so I sent a request to return the book for a refund on Sept. 10, 2012. I didn't hear back. I sent emails (through Amazon,Saveontextbook1) on 9/22, 9/26 and 10/9 asking for a reply, and I received (sent message but unrecieved...something wrong with there email) I then sent an email on 10/31, asking to please responed, and they did receive it, but still didn't respond. Finally I got Amazon involved. Amazon sent me an email on November 12th stating "Seller agreed to accept a return, but we needed to pay the shipping and Amazon included there address to return book" I sent the book to them, on November 14th with a cost of 14.00 to send it to them (cost of book was $42.85) they received the book on November 29th, and it was signed by Jackson. Still no credit to my account for returned book. Sent another email to seller on December 21st, askng for our credit. No reply! Finally, I contacted Amazon, again on Jan. 3, 2013 (4 months since I ordered the book) they are submitting an request for refund along with the tracking number of the return. Today, I finally figured out that they are not Save on Textbooks, but from entering there address, I found out that they are Rochester Textbook. When I called them, I found the gentlemen on the other end very rude, arrogant and when I explained all that I've been through he said "returns are not top priority, they don't even need to credit books back!" I told him that Amazon will be contacting them, and that I was going to write a review, he laughed and said "reviews and Amazon can't do anything!" An eclectic variety of genres are…read moreavailable throughout the shop, but also plenty of witchy things (perfect for Halloween!), tumbled gemstones, notebooks, pens, stickers, magnets, postcards... everywhere you look, there's some niche little trinket that matches the genre/theme of the books in that shelf space. It's like going on a scavenger hunt within the bookstore. I loved digging through everything. Super inviting, inclusive, and friendly service. Loved checking out the noted "staff picks" on the shelves - picked up "Bury My Heart at Chuck E Cheeses" by Tiffany Midge thanks to reading one of the staff picks cards (I believe this pick was from Giles). Was also immediately drawn to a book called "F*cked Up Fairy Tales" by Liz Gotauco. Once I got to the register and everything got totaled up, I was also surprised at the amount - honestly, expected it to be quite a bit more expensive. I'll chalk that up to some great value for the books and various trinkets available here. TL;DR One of my new fave independent bookstores in the Rochester-area. I'll be back, for sure!

They seemed to highlight their LGBTQ+ selections- not sure whether it's because its the end of pride or whether that's the norm, but I'm here for it! In addition to a wide-books, they also had lots of gift items- candles, sealing wax, stickers etc. I was truly enamored by the whole vibe. I also hear that they are part of a book crawl which sounds absolutely delightful! Wish I were a Rochester local to participate!
