Bookcliff Gardens has been one of my favorite gardening/landscaping stores for years and always carries a good variety of plants, trees and supplies along with reliable advice from a pleasant staff. Today I went to get a few more bedding plants for pots that i had forgotten when I went last week. Not crowded and good inventory! One change that I noted today and on previous visits to Bookcliff Gardens is a notable decline in politeness from the staff. The woman who checked me out was almost surly and when I asked if she wanted my phone number for the rewards program her reply "I need to input that before the credit card". If you go there, it is a great place, if you try to call to get information,, forget it. You will jump thru many hoops and probably will never get your questions answered. And!! Like so many other businesses in the valley if you try to get a bid from them on a project you have,,,, FORGET IT!!! I spoke with the gentleman when he came out to see what I wanted done. Updated 7/12/2020: The owner of Bookcliff Gardens reached out and sent me a gift certificate for a new hibiscus plant. I went today, and was pleased with the selection of reasonably sized plants available. While I am satisfied with the outcome, and thank you to Stephanie, the shopping experience left a lot to be desired. Again, I was not greeted by any of the staff, and when I went to the checkout, I honestly felt like the woman ringing up my sale was bothered by having to be there. Could you have at least managed a smile or hello? The selection was decent, considering the lateness of the growing season. I wish I could have given a 5 star review, but the surly attitudes dropped the rating. I'll revisit the review next year. I went looking for some flowers for our new home. I bought a hibiscus in a large pot, but the plant itself was small. When I got to checkout, I was charged $35 based on "the size of the pot". I figured I would get it home and it would have a sizable root system. When I planted it, it was obvious that I had been conned. This plant, root system and all, would have fit into a 4" pot. Review regarding landscaping services: To say we're disappointed would be an understatement. We utilized Bookcliff Gardens to install a few trees and some plants to finish off our landscaping. We already installed irrigation and grass so all they had to do was dig holes for each plant and install a drip head to each of them. We were charged for irrigation material that was never needed (after we repeatedly told the designer it would not be needed) and an egregious amount of labor. Overall we were charged for over 60 hours of labor that ended up only taking 24 hours. They charged for work not needed, 47 plants when only 42 were installed, material never utilized or needed, not to mention almost every plant installed was dead. The supervisor stated he'd be back to check the installation and place tubing over our sprinkler wires and never showed up. We ended up doing the conduit ourselves that night and received a bill the next day without any further communication. Furthermore, we were originally slated for installation in June but actual installation didn't happen until August. Post installation, they admitted to the poor health of plants being installed yet didn't rectify the situation after I asked for replacements and admitted to charging for worst case scenarios - not actual work needed. Their landscaping department is uneducated in terms of what's needed for jobs, unethically and egregiously charging of material and labor and perfectly content installing dead plants and trees. If you end up utilizing their services, I would review everything on the cost sheet and speak to an actual foreman (at your job site) prior to signing a contract and go to the site to check the health of the plants and request replacements on the spot prior to installation. In terms of the team actually installing our plants (not including the supervisor), they were excellent - hard working, polite, knew what they were doing. Rene was the lead installer and was great. No one bothered to email or call back after I called in May about a tree I bought the previous year. I was wondering at the time if it was dead and was going to ask what they thought. What is not to love here? Dennis Hill will give you peerless advice (whether you buy here or not). Dennis knows so much and is so happy to share his knowledge. And he never pushes you to buy something to fix your problem. He is a gem. The plants here are pricier than at most places. But, who cares, when you have plants that will succeed and be bigger and prettier than bargain plants. I bought a peony in a pot last year. It was gorgeous when I planted it and already had 3 blossoms on it. This year it is more than double in size and I have 10 buds on it. So excited! The other real benefit to shopping here (besides Dennis' advice and healthy, lovely plants) is the variety. They have pretty much everything. Love to shop here, although sometimes it is window shopping. Can't say enough about this place! read more

From beginning to end, my experience with Bookcliff Gardens was exceptional. Everyone I came in contact with was knowledgeable and helpful. While Bookcliff is probably more expensive than the independent contractors, you get what you pay for! The job was done efficiently, expertly, and beautifully. The trees, bushes and plants that were used were healthy and perfect. Everything was planted exactly as we had planned. Great Staff make for a great experience. Its been a long time for me to write this review, probably around 5 years. But the staff and selection was so suberp it was memorable. I attended college at Western State, and lived in Crested Butte. I ventured all the way out to Grand Junction to spend some serious dough on some righteous house plants. Big, small, exotic, strange, anything that would enhance the chill factor to my awesome living room. I hit up BookCliff first because i heard a local GJ'r tell me to see the selection they had there. Dude, awesome variety (houseplants) healthy plants and killer discounts. Walked in on a thur afternoon, was greeted by all the staff, extremely knowledgeable and cool people. They asked immediately what the growing conditions were (livin in Crested Butte at 9000 ft) sunlight conditions, watering schedules etc. They straight-up hooked me up with 15 houseplants (from philadendroms to begonias to orchids to our siiiiick 12 foot ficus tree) for a super discount. The quality service I received at Bookcliff has defined the meaning of customer service. The Garden selection and customer service at Bookcilff makes the best plant nursery in the western state country. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! It's rare and very hard to find a nursery in this neck of the wood, but this place made it up for the area. Clean, variety, and the workers that are helpful as well. I think I must of drill this lady's head for an hours. She informed me, that they even will test your soil out and tell you what you need to mix with to grow the kind of crop you want. Wow! Very rude. Apparently don't need business. The first person I encountered made no eye contact & said I think we're out of that. The girl ringing me up said, what is this? It was unmarked & clearly shelved in the wrong area because it rang different. The owner was standing within earshot & offered no help. I go to Bookcliff Gardens because they have great variety of plants, garden tools, seeds, pots, and yard art. They take the time to answer my questions, and they give me good, honest advice. I love this Nursery. Everyone is so helpful. This last summer I had so many earwigs and tried everything I could possible find. Then went to Bookcliff, Dennis gave me the direction, and some education about earwigs. Then a product that I needed to get rid of those little pests. And yes it worked perfectly! Also, I love talking with Mona she is also a wealth of knowledge about gardening. Provides excellent tips. I've been shopping here for almost twenty years. They have an absolutely huge selection of everything that grows, and it's all healthy and we'll cared for. The staff is friendly and most of them really know their stuff. It's very busy on spring and early summer weekends, but that's part of the fun of coming here. This is the old standby in town, perhaps the best known nursery in town. They provide consistently high quality plants. Their prices are in line with the product they provide, I find them a little high, but sometimes I will pay that for more knowledgeable staff and a better organized greenhouse. read more

I hired their landscaping branch of Bookcliff Gardens to remove and replace two trees, trim bushes, add rock ect. I signed contract on Aug 15, 2017. The Agent stated it would be early Sept when it would get done. He also stated I needed to spray trees for bees before he came. I asked who he sugested and he gave me a name. I called and company he suggested and they did not give me a good est for what I wanted done. He wanted to remove trees ect and I just wanted sprayed since I was already in a contract. I called Orkin and paid $200 to get trees sprayed on Aug 29 in prep for the work to be done by Bookcliff Gardens. Around the first of Oct 1 I called ask what was going on and they said she would check with her agent and call back. About Oct 10 I went to their office and asked again. She could not find the contract but took copies of my Orkin bill and the contract. She said she did not understand where the ball got dropped. Would have agent call me and voided the contract but no comment on the $200 I was out. If we were doing this in Oct their are not bees...too cold..has already frozen. The angent finally called and still wanted to do the job but would not give me a firm date and no comment on why I had to hire Orkin. I am now out $200...No landscape work done and getting late in the year to hire someone else and get new trees planted and rooted...I still have to hire someone to trim other bushes....Their service is unrealible and no customer service. read more
