Though the shop is relatively small, it is not cramped inside and has a great selection. The majority of the store is a fiction section, arranged by author last name, which spans across most of the wall. They also have dedicated sections for several of my favorite topics, such as gender studies, nature, science, and local authors/interest. Each section is smaller than what you'd see in a big-box store, but it doesn't matter because they're perfectly curated -- I would read almost anything I've seen in this store. There is a cart of used books they've just gotten in, but most of the used books are actually shelved alongside the new books in their respective sections. I think this is an excellent use of space, and I like that I can just go look for what I want once, as opposed to searching for something in a used section and then having to search for the exact same thing in the new section if they didn't have it used. There is also a small selection of "last chance" used books at a greatly reduced price. Most, if not all, of the books I saw in this selection were only $2, and they were in great condition! The owner + staff are friendly, and I love their taste in books! If you are near Winston and like to read or know anyone who does, you HAVE to come here.

It's small but they've done such a great job of curating a mix of unique books that it doesn't feel small at all. The decorations are so cute - I want to live there. It has the perfect cozy/magical vibe. I found a lot of books I'd never seen before & a lot of versions that were stunning. The service is great & the owner is really nice. I recommended some thriller authors since the thriller section was a little on the smaller side & he was happy to write down all my recs! Most book prices are set anyway but The prices didn't seem bad at all. They have their rescue cat Zelda on some of the merch (and wall) which is adorable. I didn't get to try the coffee but I look forward to trying soon. They also have a wall of yarn and some cool events that I need to check out! Honestly it's going to be hard for me not to spend all my money here! I highly recommend this bookstore and can't wait to go back!

Were that not the case, however, this is still a business I would be glad to support as a fan of indie bookstores. Housed in a historic building, Unfettered offers an inviting atmosphere. Exposed brick walls and wood crate shelving are the antithesis of cookie-cutter corporate presentation. Unfettered is currently operating at half capacity during its "soft open" phase (a coffee bar and a second room full of books are in the works), and so the selection isn't huge. However, it still offers a variety of genres, plus Brian and Lisa will be glad to order a title if you don't see it on the shelves. There's also an assortment of yarn for the fabric folks. Given that Scuppernong Books is only a few blocks away, it can be tempting to see Unfettered as a redundancy. The cutest little book store if I've ever seen one! It looks like they took an old house and renovated it into a book store where each room is a different genre of book. The front room has mostly newer books of all genres and memoirs. The back rooms are separated into children's book, young adult, magazines, etc. Although the books were a little pricey, I dont mind spending an extra few dollars to support a local business. The woman behind the cash register also told us if there is a book we want that they don't have, she could order it for us. Searching them on social media it also looks like they do talks with different authors every month. They had pig city books tshirts and ever since I left I've been upset I didnt get one because their logo is so cute. Just gives me a reason to return and book shop more!

Not only did they mail it quickly, but they sent a personalized note and a free copy of another book by the same poet as a gift, which was so unexpected and such a nice surprise. I order from Amazon a lot since it's all too easy, but I would always choose to shop from small, local stores whenever possible, and I'm so glad that I was able to support this bookstore despite not even living in the same state. I can only imagine that visiting this bookstore would be an amazing experience -- a store run by people who truly appreciate good literature and take the time to share what they love. From pre made book boxes to book marks, coffee mugs, tshirts/sweatshirts, blankets, ornaments, crafts, puzzles - the list goes on and on! The space is also STUNNING! It's the perfect girlie vibe for the female reader and I'm so here for it. There is so much Taylor Swift merch I could die of happiness. Their staff were also so friendly. After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. Parts Unknown The Comic Book Store in Greensboro, North Carolina is a perfect example. I immediately found a side street parking space and parked my pearl white Lexus there and walked over to the store. It was a pleasant walk and the building where the store was located had an interesting graffiti on the outside, side wall. Inside I was greeted by a friendly and very knowledgeable employee who has also been a good friend of the owner for years. He told me how the owner John Hitchcock had owned and operated this business for over 36 years with around 25 years in this location and how the business originally opened up in Cotton Mill Square in 1989. How Hitchcock had always had a passion for comic books and started collecting them when he was 10. He started selling comic books in a store downtown 37 years ago and this led to his opening his own store. Hitchcock's favorite comic book creator was Alex Toth, an artist who had been well known for his expressive line and masterful storytelling. Hitchcock and him had been friends and collaborated on a book called Dear John: The Alex Toth Doodle Book. He showed me a copy of the book that was being sold there. The store had an inviting atmosphere and as I walked through the store it was like entering another world. The uniqueness of this comic book shop was that it exclusively specializes in comic books and books about comic books. It had in its inventory some rare and expensive ones like The Invincible Iron Man selling for $2,000, a Green Lantern one selling for $1,500, and a Special 25th Anniversary Issue of the Amazing Spiderman selling for $1,200, among other well known and rare ones in excellent condition. College students enjoy visiting the store because it's like a live history museum of comic books and also carries many of the current looked-after ones. And the store brings back happy memories to old timers and makes valuable merchandise accessible to comic book collectors of all ages. I highly recommend it if ever your in the area. To me it was an extraordinary and exhilarating experience.
