I got a mailer with a deal for the annual summer checkup. I called and asked if they would come out…read moreto a small rental condo I have in Sarasota. The technician arrived, and I mentioned that the bedroom is always a few degrees warmer than the rest of the condo. He went outside, came back in a few minutes and told me that there must be a blockage in the ducting, and I needed a whole new unit, which would be 10-12K. I was astonished, because I own a number of properties, and it has never cost anywhere near that for an 800 sq ft. condo! I said I didn't want to spend that kind of money right now, and I'd jst purchase a home warranty on the property, which I had planned to do anyway. That way when the AC stopped working they would repair or replace it. He stepped outside, then came in and said his boss wanted to talk to me. The "boss" got on the phone and told me very severely that my unit needed replacing. I told him "No thank you. I don't wish to spend this amount at this time." He then said, "My technician told me that you are planning to buy a home warranty. That is insurance fraud, which I don't suggest doing in the state of Florida. EXCUSE ME?????? I told him that since the unit is functioning - if I purchase a home warranty there is no fraud taking place. This unit could run another year, 2 years, 10 years! It is not acting any differently than when I purchased the unit and had a home inspector check it out! His response was, " NO! It is broken and you need to get a new unit NOW!" When a company puts on the full court press like this, it is definitely a scam. They feel that if they scare a woman into believing them, we will buy what they are selling. I'm sure they looked up the ownership, saw it was in my name and figured they'd take advantage of a widow or single woman. I would avoid this company AT ALL COSTS!

I do not know anything about air-conditioning units so these guys could've taking me for a ride if they wanted to but fortunately they were very honest. I was lucky to need only a few minor parts to get me up and running. Afterwards, I had a few issues with dust clogging up my filter from construction going on in my home and ice forming in my unit....I called Schwartz and they walked me through how to take care of that over the phone -thus avoiding a trouble call. I'm not an easy guy to impress but I have to say these folks are absolutely wonderful. They know their stuff, are very thorough and provide amazing service! On top of all that, they are just plain nice- a rare quality these days. I would recommend them 100%. They have my loyalty and I wouldn't use anyone else!

Cautionary Review - Incomplete Diagnostic…read more We contacted Ricco's Plumbing due to a strong gas/CO-related odor coming from our gas range and concerns for safety. Before the visit, we were told the gas line would be tested (including bubble testing). When the technician arrived, the visit lasted under 10 minutes and consisted mainly of conversation. No bubble test, pressure test, or diagnostic equipment was used during that visit. We were billed $99, and the invoice stated the "gas line is fine," despite no testing being performed at that time. After we raised concerns, follow-up communication acknowledged that: * The odor appeared to be coming from the rear vents of the oven * Ricco's Plumbing does not work on appliances * We should contact TECO for further evaluation Given the seriousness of potential gas or carbon monoxide issues, we expected a more thorough diagnostic approach during the initial visit. We ultimately requested a refund because services beyond a brief discussion were not rendered. Staff were polite and responsive, but for gas or CO concerns, customers should confirm exactly what testing will be performed before scheduling.
