What a place. When there with my work wife and had a blast! You can shack dice for drinks. Draw beer mixed drinks but very little wine.

Didn't hear a peep through the walls and floors, so there's that. Lots of hot water and plenty of water pressure too, one of the upsides of older hotels. Smells like someone died in the hallways even through my mask! Not sure what's up with that and from the other reviews it looks like it's an ongoing problem. Less tolerant types would be upset to stay here. Checked in late and left early, never really had the chance to hook up my Xbox or to check Wi-Fi.

We were given keys to a room, but when we opened the door we found the room had someone's items strewn about, including a suitcase on the bed. This should not be possible at any hotel, let alone a reputable chain. Rooms must be checked and confirmed empty before they can be sold to another person, and a room must never be sold while occupied. The next room provided was nice, and the staff was so accommodating. I'd love to give it a high rating, but there is no way to overlook such a severe problem. I am hopeful this was a fluke, but such an incident can only happen if there are significant problems within multiple levels of both staffing and management; clearly beyond the fault of any single individual.

Stay away from Stephen Ewen with Northwoods Catering…read more If you see this come up in a search engine as a wedding caterer - be cautious! He will harrass you and make you feel uneasy. We had two total calls. The first call we left off not being in the same ball park for the price (which I was totally okay with). I figured we could cross him off and simply move forward; however, a few days later he reached back out in hopes of working something out - we agreed and arranged a second call. The second called he asked my partner and I so many questions about ourselves (some a little too personal.. maybe it's his way of building rapport but it came off a bit strange). When it came to the discussion surrounding our vision/menu, he wasn't listening to anything we were requesting and continued stating how our budget needs to be doubled if we wanted him. Further, he talked himself up about how he's a high-end chef and knows nearly all cuisines - but told us bbq on a stick was labor intensive and unrealistic for an appetizer. Needless to say, we ended that call knowing it wasn't a good fit. Despite already telling Stephen we were no longer interested, he proceeded to send a series of condescending text messages how we were not going to find a vendor within our price range, that he will not be "low balled" (when we told him our budget to begin with), etc. He went as far as contacting our venue without our permission and requested info on the space. He even went beyond and left a bad Google review about the venue he has never visited. I must also mention there is a Yelp review on Stephen that depicts a similar situation. Search it for yourself. *please note this was my partner and I's interaction with him and cannot speak on behalf of other folks' experience. I'm simply sending this out to warn people and what you might experience from Northwoods.

I have never been federally prosecuted but nice try trying to take me down? lol I think the crazy speaks for itself here I hired this company 5 months ahead of my event - finalized menus, signed contracts, and paid a deposit. 5 weeks before our event Stephen canceled on me via text with an apology that his assistant chef had an emergency and that was that. I was left to scramble to find a caterer during peak season in a remote area. Luckily I found one that was much accommodating and much more professional. I was panicked but in the end I feel like I dodged a bullet.

There are two houses related to the Historical Society, The Yawkey House and the Woodson History…read moreCenter. This time I strolled to the Woodson House. It is only about a block from the Everest. I had been to this grand house a couple of years ago. At that time they had a great exhibit on the effect of the Civil War on the area. I met an older gentleman named George. We talked smart for over two hours. He was great at answering questions about the county. On this visit I hoped to talk with him again; but, alas, he was not there on this visit. So I checked out their new exhibit on rural electrification of Marathon County. I found it quite informative and interesting. You can "interact" with people who used to live in the county by telephone; and listen to their stories. This is a nice place to spend a couple of hours. You can learn a lot about the area. There were a couple of floods that decimated the town. The one in 1913 was particularly devastating. As I am prone to staying at the Everest Inn, I'll probably visit this museum again the next time I'm in Wausau. Hope to catch George next time, I could use another history lesson of Marathon County. If you are a history buff (who isn't?) it would behoove you to check this fine little museum out. There is no entry fee; but leave a donation of a couple of bucks. It's the right thing to do.
