This museum was operated by the Boca Raton Historical Society who restored the building in 1989. The building is a 1930 Florida East Coast Railway train station built in the Mediterranean Revival style. It was designed by Chester G. Henninger and built for Clarence H. Geist so he could have guests delivered to his resort. On October 24, 1980 the building was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
The museum has two 1947 Seaboard Air Line streamlined rail cars, a dining car and a lounge car. They also have a 1946 Atlantic Coast Line caboose and a 1930 Baldwin steam switch engine.
The Historical Society offered the museum for sale citing a drain of their financial resources. Holly Meehan and her mother, Donna Zoley purchased the museum from the society last year for $2.4 million dollars. The new owners plan to still allow the Ticket to Ride program where 1,000 school children a year dress up and come to visit and tour the railway car as they learn about Boca Raton history. The train depot will be used for meetings by non profit groups. The museum is not open for the general public to visit. read more
